It seemed like the first half of the Season when the Yanks were in contention and Mets fired Randolph that the Yanks made the right move staying away from High price free agents. I think the first mistake they made was getting rid of Torre. Even though the Dodgers aren't going to do anything in the post season they still have a shot at it. The Yanks would have to do something like Colorado did last year to make it. (p.s. power has gone off and on all day, probally have to paddle to work tommorrow)

They can get Sabathia for just money, and Hughes will be a stud.

chamberlain, wang, hughes, mussina, and a likely free agent starter?
not many teams can touch that if the yanks stay healthy next year.
i like the future of the yankees more than i do the red sox. these kinds of years happen in baseball - good and bad. tampa can do no wrong. yanks cant get out of their own way. dose of their own medicine, i suppose. but new york will be fine.

Yankees will be fine? Naturally they have money. Ask Wal-Mart, Microsoft, and Pixar how they're doing. This sport is simply a joke (as most others) as anybody who wishes to dole out the dough will reap the reward more times than not. Cashman quite simply isn't as smart as he thinks and has managed to drop the ball in the last handful of years or so.

True story: I was in time square on vacation in March with a buddy of mine. On the first day had a nice conversation with a man of the badge. He was from the Bronx he stated and I said "so your a big Yankee fan huh". He said "I can't cheer for people who buy championships". I think thats all that needs to be said. This same sentiment was expressed by other middle class citizens from the "city that never sleeps" (bullsh!t I was up all night on a Tuesday and it was dead in time square).

My take: If your rich and from N.Y. its OK to cheer for the champs. If your not then you need to do some real soul searching.

On the other hand I'm a big Marlin hater. Eventhough I live, was raised, and graduated (UM) in Miami I see the Fish for what they are. Something I'm not getting into here.

BTW Prodigy I'm still willing to put my money up on the Lebron free agency situation. Still think he won't stick around in a hopeless town.

Go Rays

Until Giradi gets right, they can make all the moves they wont. He has no say on that team and isnt coaching them at all. Even at the beginning of the year when they was decent. Tell me u having been watching yankee games wondering what the hell is big G doing.

"Big G" should be renamed "Big Ego".

Now it's the media's fault.

Hank Steinbrenner, who has gone out of his way to emphasize how much injuries have hurt the Yankees this season, told the new Sporting News magazine that he had to do it because, "Most of the national media is full of Yankee haters."

"That's why I have to point out the injuries," Steinbrenner writes in his column in the magazine's relauch issue, dated Sept. 1. "Because the media sweep that under the rug and say we're playing poorly.

"But next year, in a new stadium, we'll be much better."

Haha...

The downfall that is the New York Yankees couldn't make me happier. They're a flawed team and this train wreck of a season couldn't have happened to two bigger stiffs (Hank and Cashman).
