Really nice guy, I enjoy his company BUTT he decided he wanted to talk politics (it was a very brief conversation, I changed it quickly in my typical gentle real life manner)

Out of the blue he starts talking about how 9 states have a minimum wage of $ 15 and how those 9 states have the strongest economies.

I politely axed which 9 states are they, he said he'd have to get back to me on that, then named WI.

I pointed out I doubt it's WI because they have a controversial Republican Gov who's better known for slashing everything. He said it wasn't WI, he meant MN. I acknowledged MN tends to lean left.

He started to say how certain problems weren't created by the democrats. That's when I said both parties are full of assholes and government only turns small problems into larger problems. I said politicians are only concerned about being reelected, and the only way to solve our political quagmire is to implement term limits. He concurred and we moved on.

Anyhow, here's the fact checking

1) no state has a minimum wage of $ 15. No state even has a minimum wage of $ 10 yet http://www.ncsl.org/research/labor-and-employment/state-minimum-wage-chart.aspx

2) 11 states had economic growth of 3% or more. 9 of them are red states, two other (CO & WV) are closer to purple than blue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_economic_growth_rate

3) blue states occupy the bottom half of the spectrum. There really aren't a lot of ultra blue states, here are some notable ones.
MN - 13 the highest
CA - 20 I'm surprised it's that high
MA - 28
NJ - 37
CT - 39
NY - 46
MD - 49

4) so states with higher minimum wages (and more generous welfare programs) rank at the bottom in economic growth

Sadly, this friend of mine represents libtard nation well. He believes some of the most fucked up shit on earth, he has it all assbackwards

It's easy to see why I didn't want that conversation to progress, i would of had to embarrass him and I didn't want to do that

@)

Of course. It is kind like when they blame shootings in Chicago on "no gun regulations in Indiana"

They just make shit up to support a silly, ignorant world view.

Two questions:

1. I'm guessing you picked up the tab?
2. Did you guys have firewater?

If you or your friend want to know what the future of the fast food industry entails, here you go:

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Momentum Machines, a start-up robotic company, designs and develops hamburger-making robots for burger restaurants, convenience stores, food trucks, and vending applications in the United States. Its robots grill a beef patty; layer it with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions; put it in a bun; and wrap it up to go. The company is based in San Francisco, California.

That's right...meet RoboBurger! He doesn't fuck up your order, he doesn't talk back, he doesn't call in sick, he doesn't take vacation, he doesn't even require a salary and he can work around the clock. McD's is already operating several thousand of these throughout Europe and China, perfecting it before bringing it to the States.

If you remember my McD's thread from a few months ago, most franchisees only earn about $140k annually after all their expenses. So if the average crew member makes $9/hour...$9 x 2,080 = about $18k in annual salary. Add payroll taxes, vacation time, etc and we're probably talking about a $25k expense per employee. So if a franchisee currently has eight crew members on staff at a given time and can reduce that number down to one, wow. That's now almost $200k he can put back into his business. It will probably result in a better customer experience as well as even lower prices in an industry where profit margins are already razor thin.

Not every restaurant is going to adopt this...I don't think we'll ever hear "Bonjour...welcome to Chez Robert. Please punch your order into the screen!" The whole ambiance and service is part of the ritzy restaurant's expensive model.

But if you want the lock of the decade, here it is: dimocrap politicians will pull out all the stops to try to block this from happening. They can't legally prevent fast food shop owners from buying these things, but look for them to do what they do best: suddenly attempt to implement a heavy tax on anyone who buys these things under some retarded guise like health conscious living. Bank on it.

Many MW positions go the way of blacksmiths and wheel makers. Does anyone blame the politicians who failed to realize basic business theory and are pushing for $15/hr MW? Nope! Lets blame the business owners for being greedy! Even after trying to apply extra business taxes to them, raising the cost of the fast food ...that still won't end the issue. Supply/Demand will win out every single time.

Very few repubs I know pick up the tab. My brother in law is staunch conservative and didn't budge for a check all week.

I'm guessing that's likely because they don't like you. Most of the righties I know would rather pick up every check than feel like they owe someone. Myself included.

As robotics gets more advanced, automation is going to change a lot of industries. I have a friend pretty high up in corporate for a major FF company, he says doesn't seem like they're going to go to automation anytime soon but 1 thing to keep in mind is most of the franchises aren't owned by random individuals anymore but rather big private companies that just have like 30-40 stores in an area so they would be more likely to want to transition rather than a typical small business owner.

A lot of the farming/agricultural work can be done more efficiently by robots.

The real problem will be when the AI gets even more advanced and can eventually do thinking tasks as well as humans. Then obviously after that there will be a rise of the machines and we'll all be slaughtered, but that's a little down the line. Not worth sweating the small stuff.

Yeah, you being a huge prick probably has zero to do with it.

Nobody in my family thinks that....but I know that helps your little fantasy world when it comes to me. So you can think that.

Im too nice and for a few years wouldn't let anyone pay for anything.....now it's expected and nobody even offered anymore.....but I live in a right wing world around me so I've expected their behavior.

Fantasy? Come on, man. I've always said I believe what you say about your money, poker, and what not. I just also think you're a prick. I don't know many people who are looking for a free lunch, it sounds like you do. That's a bummer. That said, I'm shocked a free meal is enough to get people to spend 2 hours at a table with you.

Every Tuesday I listen to 5-6 guys in their 60s-70s talking about how great Obama is. I respond, "Whose deal is it?"

What am I gonna do, break up the game?

I like everybody there, and would rather jawbone in here :)
