'Hack-A-Shaq'...has this ever worked?

I don`t believe its ever worked...maybe one time I think Dunleavy was the guy who started it...

Shaq seems to love when they go to the Hack-A-Shaq.

I don't think it ever worked. Not that I can remember. It seems to backfire every time.

i believe it worked for portland in the west finals sometime back.

should have used it the whole 4th quater with that 15 point lead.

but you have to remember even shaq will get into a rhytm, if he gets to keep shooting over and over again. even a 40% ft shooter, will become a 70% if they get the repeated reps in a game.

It rarely works because the team doing the "Hack-A-Shaq" is usually down by quite a lot already when they start utilizing that strategy. So any statistic that show the "ineffectiveness" of the strategy is kind of flawed to begin with.

Shaq started it by not shooting free throws at least 70%, clearly Shaq is overrated because he is so much bigger than any center in the league. In the NBA today the only center that comes close to Shaq is size is Ming of Houston.

Another boring part of the NBA. This strategy makes for a so easy choice to grab the remote.

tommy fu is correct. the strategy was started by jackson when he was coach of the bulls and shaq played for the orlando magic. the strategy worked to perfection as "the three headed monster" (luc longley, bill wenington and some other scrub) fouled o'neal everytime he got in the low post.. .once orlando played "keep away" from shaq down the stretch, it made it easier to shut down the awesome peremiter shooting of Orlando in dennis scott, penny hardaway and nick anderson.

the strategy does not quite work the same with Shaq as a laker due to the physical and agressive and most versatile style of los angeles.

to beat the lakers: you must be physical, agressive and have a decent game of outside shooting. the lakers lay down when this happens.
