Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jonas Gustavsson underwent a minor heart ablation procedure in London on Friday. The decision to have the procedure was made after Gustavsson was examined earlier in the day by the same medical specialists who treated him in the first half of the 2009-10 season.
Gustavsson was assigned to the AHL Toronto Marlies for conditioning purposes on Feb. 4. His conditioning assignment has been suspended and he has been placed on injured reserve.
There are been several rumors about the Philadelphia Flyers trying to get Gustavsson in a Flyers uniform. But why? I never understood the reasoning and to me I believe it was just another rumor to stir up website ratings. The Flyers have one of the best teams in Flyers history and for once have solid goaltending from Boucher and Bobrovsky. If these rumors were true about the Flyers getting Gustavsson, you can forget about it now. With this injury, he is not worth the $6million a year contract he currently has with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Gustavsson has played in 23 games for the Maple Leafs this season with a 6-13-2 record, a 3.29 goals-against average and a save percentage of .890
