Guess Who Predicted What Would Happen in Iraq if America picked an Arbitrary Date to Leave?

I know some in Washington would like us to start leaving Iraq now. To begin withdrawing before our commanders tell us we are ready would be dangerous for Iraq, for the region, and for the United States. It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to al Qaeda. It would mean that we’d be risking mass killings on a horrific scale. It would mean we’d allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they lost in Afghanistan. It would mean increasing the probability that American troops would have to return at some later date to confront an enemy that is even more dangerous.

Guess who predicted everything that would happen with the Iraq war...

Good afternoon. Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances. The Civil War was one of the bloodiest in history, and yet it was only through the crucible of the sword, the sacrifice of multitudes, that we could begin to perfect this union, and drive the scourge of slavery from our soil. I don't oppose all wars.

My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain. I don't oppose all wars.

After Sept. 11, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this administration's pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such tragedy from happening again. I don't oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism.

What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.
What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income — to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear — I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He's a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaida. I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars.

So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let's finish the fight with bin Laden and al-Qaida, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings. You want a fight, President Bush?

Let's fight to make sure that the U.N. inspectors can do their work, and that we vigorously enforce a non-proliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe. You want a fight, President Bush?

Let's fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells. You want a fight, President Bush? Let's fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn't simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil.
Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair. The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not — we will not — travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.

news flash: Would have happened whether America decided to invade or not. The only difference is thousands of Americans would still be alive and hundreds of billions of your tax dollars could have been spent improving the USA.

I don't think this topic needed another thread. But since we're here let's be fair. What Bush said in the OP was not about the start of the war, but about the end. We can argue the necessity of the war here for another 10 years and never resolve to everyone's satisfaction if we should have taken action then. Personally I think 41 should have finished it, but that's my opinion. It turns out though Bush 43 was correct with his words in the OP.

Regarding Obama's speech it sounds amateurish to me. It begins with accusatory rhetoric about Wolfowitz and Perle and then Rove. Obama sounds like Martin Bashir ranting on MSNBC. Then he describes what an evil man Saddam is, then pretends he's just going to fade away. Saddam wants nukes..... but he's no threat to us. Again, amateur hour.

Now what's highlighted in red starts out with promise because yes, we don't know the cost in advance. But then Obama falls off the cliff again with the insipid boilerplate pablum, "fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaida." That's utter bunk. It's the same spit the Arab press uses in their media. Removing hated dictators does not foment terrorism. Ideology and irrational hatred of our way of life and the desire for islamist supremacy is what fuels terrorism. When the Arab Street (such an overused term) rises up in protest it is with the dictator's permission. Until the protest is for freedom, when it is then brutally crushed by the dictator himself, not by Americans. Empty words Mr. President!

Next paragraph, more horseshit for the liberal masses. "Let's fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells." Did Obama as president succeed at any of this??? "Let's fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn't simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil." You forgot Halliburton ya dolt!

"Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed." Code words for, "Fuck people who work hard for a living and become rich and successful. Let's take their money and redistribute it."

How the hell did Americans elect this guy?

Iraq is one of the biggest blunders in American history. We didn't win anything at any time. And Obama knew it from the beginning. Now he has to continue dealing with Bush's messes. Unreal, worst time to be President ever.

Mitt Romney piles on and why not? He was right.

"Responsible way to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan" :ohno:

Mitt Romney: Iraq is a part of the pattern of failures of the Obama-Clinton foreign policy

POSTED AT 6:41 PM ON JUNE 13, 2014 BY ERIKA JOHNSEN

I’m posting this, merely because — and I quote –

That is all.

Mitt Romney:

Obviously, his red line in Syria, then walking away from it; saying that Assad must go, then three years later, doing nothing really to make that happen; in Iraq, failing to get a status of forces agreement so that we can have a group of 10 to 15,000 soldiers there; all these decisions made in the past puts us in a very poor position now frankly, with very poor options. This is the consequence of a president that did not take the right actions at the time opportunity presented itself. … Trying to recapture the lead and keep these kinds of things from happening is going to be a real challenge, and gosh, I hope the president is going to be able to do that in his last two years. … I frankly think this is a continuation of a pattern of the Obama-Hillary Clinton foreign policy, and it hasn’t worked.

looks like the 5+ consecutive years of economic growth, jobs growth, market growth, personal wealth growth, low unemployment and combined with an extended period of deficit reduction really pissed scum off

scum, like roaches, thrive in chaos, he prefers economic malaise and high unemployment with foreign diplomacy blowing up all over the world, so long as a fellow libtard is in charge

and the fucking douche tells us he's a moderate

how fucking stupid does it get? again, rhetorical question boys, none of can even imagine scum's level of ignorance. It's of the charts

vile, hateful, liar, fraud, ignorant and low information makes for one toxic persona

FANTASTIC Speech about Iraq. He was so ahead of the curve then, and it later helped him get the nomination and the Presidency. Let's hope he remembers it when dealing with the current Iraq situation.

Yes, regurgitating the far left Cindy Shitcan talking points really made him "so ahead of the curve" face)(*^%

Oh well Scott, now we get to find out what the world would look like had John F'ing Kerry won in 2004.

He "knew it from the beginning" that he said:

we’re leaving behind a sovereign, stable, and self-reliant Iraq

And we also got this:

I am very optimistic about -- about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

^ The dumbest man in America

The idea that Obama is 'knew' anything is laughable and preposterous.

You are so comically dumb it is getting boring pointing it out.

Actually it's more like the shrill sounds of a moron with a bullhorn at an 'Occupy' rally, but label it FANTASTIC if it gives ya the tingles :)

Easy.

The lunatic left's romanticized feelings for Vietnam were so strong that they hired a guy who promised them two more.

He knew exactly what a disaster this would be. That's pretty impressive knowing the majority was in favor of it. It's a shame that he was given a collapsing economy, collapsing housing market, two unwinble trillion dollar wars, and a worthless do-nothing congress. He's about 20 years too early for his vision and intelligence. The Republican obstructionism and billion dollar media attacks just made it impossible for him. What a disgrace Republicans have become. Willing to destroy the country just to prevent Obama from being successful. Shame on them!
