(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Imagine making plans to go to the Super Bowl, only to be told that you can't see the big game . A group of local friends paid thousands for game tickets and were told those tickets are no longer available.

FOX 25 caught up with the guys as they boarded their plane at Logan early Thursday morning.

Sandwich resident Josh Helms and his friends, all life-long Patriots fans, made plans to get to Arizona when the Pats won the AFC Championship. The friends ended up buying six tickets from two different licensed ticket brokers for more than $1,600 a piece. They then booked their flights, found hotel rooms and packed their bags.

When Helms woke up Wednesday morning, he said he had a text and a phone call from one broker saying they did not have the tickets. A few hours later, the other broker told him the same thing. Both brokers said the best they could do was offer them a refund

Helms says when they land, they'll try anything they can to get tickets to the game. He also said that, with the prices they are at now, it's unlikely they'll make it.

So far, the best price he says he has found is about $3,500 a piece, which is more than double what he had initially paid.

This happened to us two years ago with The Masters. Bought a group of tickets, went to Augusta, and got screwed by the ticket broker. He sold the same tickets again to another group for a higher price.

We got a refund but still got royally screwed.

I would think you can always find tickets in Augusta Masters week if your willing to pay the price. I'm hearing it's a real scramble to get tickets in Glendale. Huge prices just to get in $7000+ for a single ticket. The market has dried up and the prices are soaring.

:):)

Had a buddy who loved Nascar. I could never understand it. I used to joke with him that I could sit by the freeway and watch that shit for free.
He went on and on about this and that and all the nuances. I said to him, "Look, I just don't get it. It's cars going in a circle."

I mean, I bet horses, but it's basically one lap and that's it.

The brokers did what they typically do, they sell the tickets at a price to see what they can get. When the price is a lot higher, like magic sorry..... no tickets. Why sell them at $1600 when they are fetching $8,000 +

The other thing brokers have done historically is sell a ton and then can't the tickets themselves.

Oldest tricks in the profession.

Watch on TV. Better experience. Only reason I would want to be there this week is all of the hot pussy. Besides that, who cares. Lets just get pussy and hope for alot of torn ACL's this game.
