Biggio's peak was about as high as Alomar's, and he ended up playing much longer. Obviously that makes him deserving. Like Biggio, Bagwell suffered from having to play in the Astrodome when it seriously suppressed offense. Adjust for that and Bagwell is clearly very close to Frank Thomas. Slightly less offensive value, but definitely more defensive value.
Very similar to Rose and Gwynn. Raines had fewer singles, but made up for it with a much higher walk rate. For a leadoff hitter singles and walks are very close in value. Best player in the league in 1987, but couldn't win the MVP because he missed a month due to illegal collusion. Had 71 steals in only 88 games in 1981 when every team missed almost 50 games because of the strike. Still a very good hitter in 94-95 when he lost another 50+ games to more labor problems. The voters are either ignorant about baseball history or idiots for punishing him for missing all that time.
Or it's because he used drugs and it's so important for sports writers to help us fight the War on Drugs by keeping any more illegal drug users out of the Hall-of-Fame.
