Actually King Kong's death from falling off the skyscraper in the 1976 Jeff Bridges Kong movie was pretty spectacular itself. He survives the fall for a few moments, and dies on the asphalt in front of his love Dwan (Jessica Lange).

Wow, that was some seriously realistic action. Anybody who believes women ought to be in combat should be required to watch the first 28 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan."

It's Scarface with Al Pacino still firing away with 50 bullets in him. Nothing else comes close.

Pull one out of the obscure B-movie bin: the Cyclops dying in the movie Krull. When I was a kid this caused me all sorts of early-teenage catharsis: the heroism of sacrificing himself for his friends, the whole existential thing that he knew all along that it would happen (within the plot of the movie, all of the Cyclops could see their own deaths, which is relevant to the movie but too complicated to explain here) ... just a really cool death scene that left an impression on me at the time.

Phaedrus you have revealed your approximate age. The Cyclops was indeed tragic.

I'm surprized no one has mentioned Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) from Training Day who murdered with extreme prejudice by the Russian mafia in the middle of a LA street.

the ending in 'seven' when 'jon doe' is shot by brad pitt's character. maybe not the killing itself but the events that led up to it. i would say that is rather dramatic

If gruesome deaths are the sole criteria for greatest then several caused by Hannibal Lector come to mind. The gutting and hanging of Inspector Rinaldo Pazzi (Giancarlo Giannini) comes to mind as possible the most gory (only be a little over others).

Who could for get a young Christopher Walken blowing his brains out as the hopelessly addicted to drugs and AWOL soldier Nick in Deer Hunter playing Russian Roulette.

Right , Rinaldo Pazzi's death was ok , powered by all the background history. I always loved as well scenes of falling people (example: girl's sliding globe scene on cliffhanger)

Kill Bill 1 & 2 have some great death scenes as well (Daryl Hanna, and the the five-point palm exploding heart technique)

i still say being stomped by King Kong would be the worse death of all. How can you beat that? Tell me you wouldn't be shitting if you saw this guy approaching you? And the 1933 king kong is much scarier than the 1977 one. The 1977 one looked like a nice guy. He had nice friendly eyes. But the 1933 king kong, forget it. He was mean. A heartless bastard.

Just see for yourself and tell me you wouldn't be crapping your pants if you saw this guy coming after you?

Probably one of my favorite all time movies. Old King Kong was just a badass, he was the King. Even kicked the T Rex's butt. Grabs the A' train after smashing the trestle and popping up through the tracks. Beats the crap out of the crashed train, with people still screaming inside. But the best is the Island, he was super pissed when they took his girl away. They shut and bolted the biggest door ever, and had everyone holding on, crew members and natives. He breaks, through, very climatic, and ravages the entire village, forgot another edited scene, where he picks up a native and bites him. The latter version looked like some guy in a rented gorilla suit, who would be handing out discount coupons at the store. That and clash of the titans were my monster movies...OF

Please tell me you are a woman because you can't be a straight male and think Thelma @ Louise ranks on this list.
