I spotted these numbers in a book in Nevada today. Chuck Sims probably will be calling this book criminal soon

Odds to win the NFC South
Bucs 9/5
Falcons 2/1
Panthers 6/5
Saints 7/5

Anyone want to do a quick calculation to figure out the lofty hold percentage on this???

LOL! I've seen alot worse than that in Las Vegas. Some of these Las Vegas sportsbooks should have their employees wear ski masks.

I think that 36% is too generous. It looks more like 1 - (1.8+2.0+1.2+1.4) = 5.6

5.6/(3.0+3.0+3.0+3.0) = 0.466667, or 46.7%

What a deal.

That tourist trap's SB Mgr must have spent time as a shylock, credit card company mgr, furniture rental mgr, or pawn broker..jeez.

Those odds will not be touched even by tourists?

Why not just put up a big "FU..we don't want to deal NFL Futures!" sign in the sportsbook, it says the same thing.

Tough division of many unknowns, but those numbers scream lazy research, zero balls booking, and downright criminal activity.

Caro will still be hungry & should be favored, TB will not just bounce completely, Atl is gonna rise but how far?, NO will be tough but not champ material.

WB, that's still bad, a border joint trying to clip squares that can't wait until they get to mecca to torch money on the carnie acts.

There really needs to be state and federal regulation on some of this, and if the powers can't figure fair numbers/parameters/hold % in general, then they should bring in Roxy, Herbie, etc..as outside consultants, but as is, numbers like that scream lack of regulation.

PAC money on the Hill works wonders!

Yeah right, they would just regulate the business right out of business. Believe me if there is a dirty word to those of us that have been around Vegas over the last 10 years it is: REGULATION. That is how things got so sorry in the first place. Showing an ID to place a $1000 bet on a -300 favorite. Having to use a frickin pager to make a phone bet. No cell phones in a book. I mean stupid rules that just started the exodus, so please don't bring up regulation, hehe.

And Cal Neva isn't a "border joint", they are the book that runs the books in about half the casinos around Reno including the Atlantis where I saw this travesty. They usually give you a pretty decent shake, but that one really caught my eye as being horrendous.

Hey, I'm a gambler, and have been one that had to fork over ID to bet, have been charted, and froze out at the counter before, and reduced on certain games..

BUT

Regulation already is in play against the player, just not as much so against the house!

Reduced limits, phone wagering's demise, no cells in any book(except a few like the old H-Shoe's turning a blind eye to pros and runners using earpieces on the front row),etc..

I find LV Books change more an alibi of corporate Vegas, and regulation seems used as an excuse in their pulling back in the Sportsbooking game..not as much so the Govt and it's regulation..though it has been huge.

The screw is already on and being turned on at least one side of regulation..it needs to be applied both ways or not at all?

Bucs 9/5
Falcons 2/1
Panthers 6/5
Saints 7/5

To calculate holding% those odds have change to decimal format

9/5+1=2.8
2/1+1=3.0
6/5+1=2.2
7/5+1=2.4

Then all of these odds must divide to solve percentages

100/2.8=35.71
100/3.0=33.33
100/2.2=45.45
100/2.4=41.67

Then

35.71+33.33+45.45+.41.67= 156.16

And final

100/156.16= 0.64

1-.64=0.36

There might be easier ways to do it, but I'm using Excel so it doesn't matter to me.

I see the gambler in LV being squeezed of his options in terms of one's past liberties, but the House to lesser degrees..should be two-way street?

True odds, without a vig, would be

35.71*0.64 = 22.87 -> 100/22.87 = 4.37 -> 4.37-1 = 3.37 -> 3.37*100 = 337
33.33*0.64 = 21.34 -> 100/21.34 = 4.69 -> 4.69-1 = 3.69 -> 3.69*100 = 369
45.45*0.64 = 29.10 -> 100/29.10 = 3.44 -> 3.44-1 = 2.44 -> 2.44*100 = 244
41.67*0.64 = 26.68 -> 100/26.68 = 3.75 -> 3.75-1 = 2.75 -> 3.75*100 = 375

And finally:

Bucs +337 (vs.9/5 = +180)
Falcons +369 (vs. 2/1 = +200)
Panthers +244 (vs. 6/5 = +120)
Saints +274 (vs. 7/5 = +140)

Alright WB, no sarcasm intended, I'll take your stand(and many others)..

the bigger the lack of regulation, the bigger the hold, the bigger the hold..the more sheep sheered, the more sheep sheered..the fatter the coffers, the fatter the coffers..the more freed the SB Mgrs hand, the freed hand lays more props and limits on the table for the taking...

It sounds logical, but rather Utopian?..I think LV would just steal and never raise their exposure again to past levels.

Wiseguys always have and always will make for better and bigger Sportsbooks(be it playing into them and making a market/flow, owning, or just protecting them)..LV rarely ever took as much as NYC in limits(outside of Mayday), still doesn't, and will never again be as good as the best Offshores..imho

If regulators offered their services at reasonable prices then it would be welcomed by all parties IMO. Trouble is the regulation business is in a monopoly situation and like with all monopolies, greed and extortion is the name of the game -- crappy service at exorbitant prices. Nobody needs a player like that in the picture.

And they bust illegal bookmakers. These casinos should get in trouble for exploitation like that.
