The common denominator - heavy taxation = lost jobs. Corporate America doesn’t stand for it, it moves to where there are less taxes.

CT and greater NYC were blue until October 2008. At that time, everything everywhere seem to turn dark red.

So did the economy fall off a cliff? or did people and companies become scared shitless and close up shop?

I think more of the later. Thankfully, consumer confidence seems to have bottomed out. There is an uptick in business activity, speaking from first hand experience of course.

Here's another theory. The jobs were lost where the people actually live and work.

I superimposed the Feb2009 map of job losses over the Census 2000 map. Do you really think it was corporate America running to lower taxes in places like Utah and Nevada (or overseas), or was it maybe Corporate America scaled down while people bought and built less during this recession?

How did you do that ktv?

Except that Louisiana and Texas seemed to be immune. I've read that's because oil didn't do so badly.
