When it was learned that Little said he'd received phone calls from four big league managers, all telling him they'd have made the same non-move of leaving Pedro in the game in game 7, there was speculation about who might have backed Little.

The bets were on Darrell Johnson, John McNamara, Jimy Williams, and Don Zimmer.

Unfortunately, Grady couldn't respond to his callers, even to say thank you. You see, he couldn't locate Pedro in the Dom Rep to get Pedro's permission to speak.

On a personal note, being a Red Sox fan, I hope the Bosox brass decides to bring Grady back next year. I think he did an outstanding job this year overall. Importantly, the players love to play for this guy too. Would be very disappointed if he is let go. And by the way, feel leaving Pedro in the game was not a horrible decision by any means.

I think if Grady got them this far this year then he can do it again next year too.

Of course, whether Grady returns or not must be approved by Pedro's agent.

hey fish, you say the decision to leave pedro is wasn't horrible...do you agree with it? also, as a redsox fan who has seen countless evidences of "the curse" over the last 25 or 30 years, what did you think of your boy manny calling his father-in-law in the middle of the 5th inning telling him "we're going to the world series".

if that kind of action doesn't beg for instant karma, i don't know what does.

I think the Pedro decision was a 50-50 decision. No huge problem with the decision at all. Hindsight is always easy. The guy got a bloop hit for God-sakes.

you're talking about posada's at bat. the critical one was matsui. little brings in embree (who had been unhittable) to face matsui and we would not be having this conversation. matsui was the one of the few guys on the yanks to have good at bats against pedro.

its one thing to critize the mgr after the guy gets a hit, but the people i was watching the game with were going crazy before matsui saw the first pitch. bad decision given the way the sox bullpen had pitched all october, given the fact that pedro had over 100 pitches, and given the fact that matsui hits pedro well.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

They hit the ball solid in the 7th (but at people). Then came 3 liners - then the bloop in the 8th

Pedro is know to fade, and the bullpen had been lights out in the playoffs ... that said, I can see leaving Pedro in since Grady has seen that bullpen blow more than their share of leads in the reg. season.

The real problem here is that the Sox didn't have a bullpen that Grady could believe in.

lander, that bullpen had proved their metal all post-season. i don't buy that arguement. pedro was gassed (like you say...the 7th & 8th innings, they were scalding the ball) and should have been lifted. no question about it.

Yes, agree that Pedro probably should have been lifted before Godzilla came up.

Lander- Blue is right, the bullpen was throwing lights out.

Not here to pillory Little, but he made wrong decision. Pedro has pretty been on a pitch count all year but Little let him exceed it every game in post season.

This is an older Pedro, not the Pedro from a few years back and Sox brass say he might even have a slight rotator cuff tear.

All this and the apparent way he was laboring, in addition to the fact of Matsui coming up makes the decision to remove him easy.

That being said, who knows? Sox could have lost with relievers, also, but definitely a wrong decision by Little to keep Pedro in.

I agree, I was yelling at Little to pull Pedro before Matsui came up, Embree was the choice - pitches were flattening, Pedro was getting tired, and showing them a fresh pitcher with different stuff was the move. I'm not one of those who decided this in hindsight, either.
