I'm going with Box Office Report's prediction of 21 million. Look how good Texas Chainsaw did and other scary movies. I'm taking the following at Intertops:

20 million or more +200

Great value for the price. The trailer for this movie looks awesome!!!

I don't know about you guys, but it's been a long time since I've actually wanted to go see a movie, and I want to see Gothika.

Oh, ya, wsex raised their over/under to 18 million. -115 for the over.

.... which makes my play at Intertops for 20 million and more for +200 look even better and better. This movie has been in the top previews watched for over a week.

well, it has been doing well on moviefone, I haven't been watching much t.v. lately so I haven't even seen the trailer, but just looking at the poster and seeing the title, I'm thinking 15 million.

actually, Don't Say A Word seems like a decent comparison, and that on edid 17.

Actually, I'm now changing my tune. I thought Gothika would be playing in about 2600 theaters. But it's only playing in 2,382 theaters. Plus, the reviews just seem to be getting worse and worse. Check out Rotten Tomatoes. Everyone hates it. I'm going to use my back-up account at Itops and hedge my bet by puttin cash on 11 million to 15.9 million +115

The bad reviews keep on coming. Gothika won't surpass 15 million. No way. The stock market has it at 12.5 million only. Should be around there.

Easy call IMO... The multitude of bad reviews were already up on Rotten Tomatoes on Thursday -- this movie was getting bashed by everyone.

So it basically came down to looking at comparable movies... Horror/suspense with a decent star (but certainly not a star people flock to go see), not marketed towards the teen crowd (like Texas Chainsaw Massacre was), preview wasn't that great... My comparable movies:

Stigmata, Identity, House of 1000 Corpses, Stir of Echoes, Frailty, In Dreams... All under $14 million.

We'll see... I think it'll do better than 14 million. The trailer looks great, and Roger Ebert, who counts the most, gave it 3 stars. I guess we'll know soon. I say over 15 million.

crowd reports tonight seem to substantiate Gothika's #1 spot on moviefone.

Can't believe I bet on another over for a shitty movie that should have done well.
