I'm sorry, most of you vetrans here no I NEVER use words like "blowout", "Lock" whatever, but I cannot see this game any other way but Illinois by 14 or more, MINIMUM!!

The linesmakers really missed the boat here -- the Gophers are unnecessarily given credit for being 5-1, and playing a bad Ohio St. team relatively closely, with two late garbage TD's.

I feel Illinois is one of, if not the best team in the Big Ten (Iknow they lost to Penn St), but this team has some true athletes, and should dominate the under-sized young Gophers.

Illinois ran up 650 yds of offense against the Gophers last year; the Gophers are better at D this year and have a new DC, but they are too young, nad lack the talent to stay with the Illini.

I see it something like 53-23 on a good day for Illini, or 47-31 Illini on an off day.

Question

Illinois is currently -12.5 over Minnesota at The Greek.

Do you really think they can do it?

Thanks in advance. :aktion033

Single digits sounds much more enticing to be honest.

What's your take on this game?

Do you think Zook's squad can cover the -12.5 over the Gophers? :think2:

Want to know. Maybe I'll play it. Definitely want to get on it in the event Dr. Bob does and steams it up to -14 or beyond.

basket: i agree that minnesota isnt a legit 5-1 kind of team. but illinois has no business laying double digits to anyone. their defense is garbage and that makes laying 10+ next to impossible. both sides in this one are tough to play imo.

On the over on this game and just did a write up about it in my thread. Prodigy is right about the Illini defense and they could give up an easy back door just like Ohio St did. I think the Illini cover but there are better bets to take. Could be a let down spot for the Illini because their win last week was big for them. Just take the over, it's a lot better play IMO.

Much better games on the board. I had it at 13 and my brother had it at 10.5, and we are diehards. Minny could cover this easily.

Illini,

How sick is the Illini offense looking now with Cumberland back at 100% opposite Benn? With Juice looking like Tebow last year in the red zone, I see a lot of TD's Sat.

Unfortunately one or two could come from the Gopher's Kick returner :ohno:

I'm not that high on Juice. He's better, but he's still not good yet. Too many bad reads and bad passes that should be easy completions. He can run, and he looks good passing at times, but he's got a long way to go. For being a junior, I'm actually quite disappointed that he is not further along. The network guys rave about him, but they overrate him. Cumberland moving to WR was a great decision. He's fast and strong, and can run after the catch.

Kick coverage, we had the best in the nation last year. This year, we are a complete joke. I think we'll finish 9-3, and I got over 7.5 wins +150. Go Illini. :pope:

it's based in reality, not pessimism. We have the WORST coaching here in the country -- all sports save Lemaire (MN Wild).

As you can tell by my scores, I too, like the over, but with all do respect Prodigy's ambiguous comments on Illini def are simplistic and don't delve into the investment opportunity to be had here.

One must look at the individual match-ups here and how their are some very tangible exploitations that favor the Illini.

Do as you will, but this game is a mismatch.

Illini

Minny does NOT easily cover this spread, in my humble opinion, NOT a chance. They will score, but not at the same rate that the Illini will -- Illini by 15 or more!! More than likely MORE.

I agree with you about Juice -- the media likes to glorify these type of QB's, and Juice is no exception. IF he make the NFL it would be as a WR ONLY, he is NOT a QB.

However, with that said, he poses HUGE match-up problems for the Gophers -- Miller, Wilson, Davis and company will shut down what little running game the Gophers can muster -- starting a 3rd string running back.

The Minny def is banged-up, with their def back leader Sherels hurting the Illini will be able to run and throw against this def. LB Campbell is a converted lineman and will be hard pressed to adjust to the schemes Zook throws at him on Sat. And look for Denn to have a spirited performance, to show the World that the best Big Ten WR is NOT Decker. I believe it is Decker, but motivating Denn is not a good thing for the Gophs.

Ans Fulton, McDonald and company will manhandle a marginal under-acheiving, under-sized Goph Def line.

The only thing that the Gophs have going for them are that Weber-Decker connection is forminable, and that this is Brewster's first trip back to Champagne.

Illini COMFORTABLEY!!!
