What else should we expect. Beyond the gambling issues, beyond the Patriot Act, and beyond the mess in Iraq which the Bush team wants to abandon responsibility for on June 30th so they can try to claim some sort of success...there is a bigger issue here. Republicans are quietly trying to usurp our democracy and two-party tradition. They do it with money, they do it with access, but most of all they do it with intimidating people speaking freely. If you speak out against them they will talk about your being "weird". If you speak out, you are against the war on terror. If you are a foreign citizen, your vote should only be for what they consider good causes, otherwise you are weak. And if you live in a state they just happened to gain a couple seats in during the last election you are due for completely out of custom redistricting.
Make no mistake boys and girls, they won't ever admit what they are really up to. Maybe call it usurping our democracy is a bit harsh, but they sure aren't the "freedom fighters" they love to claim to be. They are out to take our votes and make them meaningless. They are out to harass and threaten other countries either through force or by ridiculing their rights to vote with their conscience. And of course, they are out to make sure that their rivals aren't just challengers, but vanquished and nicely marginalized to where they can challenge them no more. All from a party that has mere majorities in Congress and couldn't win the popular vote in the last national election. Does this sound right to you?
The Google episode is just the latest example of using their power to try to force their will and desire upon us. They won't be happy with doing good deeds and just winning elections the old fashioned way. Oh no, they can't win solid majorities any other way but by changing the rules in hopes of creating an environment where Republicans can't lose. This won't be their last move, but we all know they can't stop people from gambling or looking at porn on the net, but they sure can try to throw us in some pot of people that through our deviant behaviors are supporters of terrorism. Shameful, just shameful. I have been a Republican voter most of my life, but I am just too disgusted to continue to do so anymore. I could think of 100 Democrats I would rather be running but Kerry, but anyone is better than this group of undemocratic thugs with no interest in being servants of the people.
