Hey all-longtime lurker here- I am looking for some good gambling opportunities offline. I was hoping some of the sharp guys around here could help me out a little. I have been living around the Tunica area and all the good games have just about dried up.

I play:
Video Poker- $1 progressives mostly
Blackjack
Poker 10/20 & up (now that Jack sold the Shoe, I doubt poker will last in this area)

I thought about saddlin up and movin to Vegas to do sports & poker, would appreciate any ideas on this as well. (I am barred from BJ in most major LV casinos). The $15/30 hold'em seems to be good late night. I have 3 youngsters and hope to find a very good school district if I did select LV.

I have heard some casino opportunities exist in Florida, New Mexico and Colorado.

All help & suggestions appreciated

Forget about LV, better poker is in just about anywhere else. Those good mid-limit hold em games are fleeting. With online opportunities to bet sports, no need to be in Nevada. And schools are starting to live out Californication, its sad but true.

The other states you mention don't have regular casino poker games in your limits for the most part, sometimes in New Mexico they get middle limit games going but its not always on. California has all the good games and all the bad schools. If you really want to play cards and keep the kids in good schools probably best to stay where you are and maybe do some occasional travelling to tournaments.

Thanks for your insights WildBill. I had no idea the Las Vegas school system was weak.

I wish I could stay right here, I just need a few more opportunities. I saw a few when I was in Blackhawk, CO. I made a big mistake not thoroughly checking Cripple Creek. One thing I don't like about CO was there strong stance against internet gaming- Colorada Gaming Commission (very last paragraph).

The poker was also limited to $5 in Blackhawk- but I talked to a couple guys that said there were some great games in Denver.

Ignore it, there are about 20 of them out there and they all say the same thing. Of course they will strongly oppose, they don't get taxes from them.

Colorado games are all 2-5 or 3-5, why would you move somewhere for that??? The state has its $5 per bet max so that kills blackjack as well. The poker games are pretty good up there, but there is no money to be made at those limits. And you didn't miss a thing, Cripple Creek is a charming little town but FAR from anything and the type of place you only have to see once in your life. I have been to all the gambling towns quite a bit as part of my job required a quarterly meeting there. Blackhawk is the only one with any kind of quality offering for more than just an afternoon of slot play. Could get interesting next year, they will finally get a real road up there, but it will go to Central City first. Maybe the easier access will get even more investment up there, but still with the $5 limit the place will never be anything more than a day trip for slot players. And to top it off, its next to impossible to live within 15 miles of the towns, they are all out of the way and because of a stupid tax law, its prohibitively expensive to live in any of them unless you already owned a house there before the casinos.

If you really want VP and decent schools and mid-limit poker games, well I think you are probably in the right area. Maybe Biloxi might serve you better, I hear the poker is pretty good down there but you would know better than me. I do have to do some reviews of the slot stats and as a result I know the VP and slots down in Biloxi are among the best outside of NV so my guess is you are pretty much in the best place considering your situation.

Welcome yo-yo to the RX.

If you want to play VP, go nowhere else but Las Vegas. However, I wouldnt recommend my dog to live there, let alone 3 kids. Dont let anyone tell you different, Las Vegas is a hell hole these days. Lived there for 18 years and so happy to be out. Terrible city IMO.

Sportsbetting- Stick to offshore and advice here at the RX.

Poker- If you are an accomplished player, there are good games to be found in every area of the country.

Slots- The great slot bonus plays of the last 90's is basically dried up. However, there are games of this variety and OTHERS all over the country that you could use to supplement your income.

As far as poker, what about all of the online sites out there. I have done decent playing there, and my buddy has had great success at the 30/60 tables at Poker Stars.
