"Goligoski started the season with the Penguins when Gonchar was sidelined, but was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL when Gonchar returned in February.

"The Penguins didn't begin their late-season surge that carried them into the playoffs until Gonchar returned.

Looks to me like the depth on the Pens D is starting to show.

Goligoski is not a bad dman by any means. He draws in now with Gonchar out, and the Pens going with 7 dmen, but he by no means the 7th best dman on today's roster.

In the meantime Caps need to make a quick switch and use Mike Green on the third pairing and move Erskine up to the top pairing, cause Green is showing why he is a long ways away from winning a Norris Trophy some day. IMO the most disappointing performance by any big name player in the 2009 playoffs.

Giligoski was leading rookie defensemen in scoring when demoted. Maybe just got on the wrong side of the head coach.

no gogs is there for the PP he was demoted bc we had enough depth and him being young still made mistakes. Personally I like gogs but I feel much more comfortable with phillip back there being that he is a vet and his hard right handed shot that is usually on net.

If gonch is out like many are saying you will probably see both at times depending on the rest and possibly 7 d dressed on certain nights.

According to Blysma, quoted in Yahoo, the injury is less severe than thought, and he is listed as a game time decision.

might just be blowing smoke.....its not yet known for sure but inside sources at TSN are saying that he could be out for weeks and possibly the season. TSN usually doesn't report false info hopefully they are wrong.

gonchar's agent went on a rant about the nhl having a double standard when it come to stars & that ovechekin should have been suspended from the hit on gonchar. he said it's likely he's out at least a couple weeks so tsn is probably dead on.

It was good to see Gonchar return. He mush have been fine. They left him in even after going up 6-1 late in the game.:103631605
