Golfer Dies After Cart Plunges Off Cliff
By Associated Press - May 23, 2007
FALLBROOK, Calif. -- A 65-year-old golfer died Tuesday after his golf cart plunged 75 feet off a cliff and crashed into a road below, authorities said.

The man teed off with three friends on the second hole of the Pala Mesa Resort Golf Course in northern San Diego County at around 10 a.m. and then got into his cart.

The vehicle veered off the concrete pathway, traveled down a 25-foot embankment and went over the edge of a cliff, California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Kerns said.

The recently retired real estate agent from Irvine was ejected shortly before the cart hit the road beneath the cliff and died on impact, Kerns said. His name was not immediately released.

No one else was involved in the crash.

Investigators will inspect the golf cart for mechanical failures, Kerns said.

Heard that on Scott and Todd's show yesterday morning.
Hell of a way to go.
Todd Pettingill (morning OAP here in NYC) related a story on how a golf buddy of his fell off a cliff the same way, but only had a bigger fall, and lived.
He spent 2 months in traction with a broken back.

I feel for his playing partners .....had to finish the round as a threesome.... always lots of standing around when that happens. Tough to get any kind of rhythm going. Perhaps the course would provide a marker to keep play moving, but I read the article twice and there is simply no way to ascertain how the remaining players dealt with it. What the hell!

Can`t understand the jokes about a guy`s horrible death...RIP

Sounds like he died doing what he loved , playing golf ... I can think of some more gruesome deaths for a 65 year old , at least he was on the course , it was a beautiful day , as far we know , he shot the game of his life ....

A good friend of mine just passed away from Cancer in Thailand...he was an avid golfer and had played professionally for a short time..he birdied the last hole he ever played and those of us who knew him, still joke around the course when his name is mentioned...he also died a horrible death, but when we play his favorite courses in Thailand, his name is always bought up and we all laugh at the times we had...my point is all golfers understand a man's passion for the game, and I'm sure this golfer who drove his cart off the cliff will be remembered by his golfing buddies...life goes on...:103631605

There are a lot of classless posters here but you have risen to the top of that infamous list.

It's almost certain that this poor gentleman either had a debilitating stroke or heart attack or a mechanically defective golfcart. Other than your post, this accident more than likely had nothing to do with friggin stupidity!
