Lxajay,
Parque Valle Del Sol-- Front nine was the original course, so it has been built up with trees bordering almost every fairway. However, they are pretty wide. Back nine is WIDE OPEN...which means when it is windy...IT IS VERY, VERY WINDY!! Greens are fast and do not break much, fairways are normally in very good condition. Cost is about 12k during the week and 14k during the weekend (colones=420 to $1.) Most of us bookies can be found here. There is a driving range...but no drivers if you are a big hitter.
Cariari--You can only play there if you stay at the Hotel Herradura or go in with a member. Guests pay $50 + you have to have a cart or a caddy. Course is pretty hard. Fairways are pretty thin, bordered heavily by trees on almost every hole. Greens are tough, but readable. AF1 is right..the caddies are solid, but only if you get the A caddie. The B and C caddies...not so good. Gary Austin has a mega-million dollar house on the back end of hole 8. Driving range here, as well, but once again...no driver if you are a long baller.
Los Suenos--BEAUTIFUL SCENERY!!! A golf course in the middle of the rainforest, that ends on the beach. Problem is drainage here...sand traps are hard as rock, most of the time. Greens are not so good and the price is outrageous for CR($150 druing the high season and $75 otherwise). The fairways are pretty wide, though. Same thing here for the driving range.
Hacienda Pinilla--the closest to a PGA course, in my humble opinion. Amazingly long, pretty wide open, nice greens, and DEEP bunkers. Beautiful scenery here, as well, with a couple of holes right on Playa Langosta. I can't remember the prices, but I remember thinking it was not too bad. Can't remember their driving range, so no help here.
Playa Conchal--HAVEN'T PLAYED THERE YET, DAMMIT...but I hear very good things.
That is pretty much it for me...hope it helps.
