Nick Price just won the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am - his first win in 111 starts (39 on the Senior Tour). In 2005, he was voted the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf.

Congrats to Nick Price one of the real good guys in the world of golf.

bellyputter - no doubt..

The 94 PGA at Southern Hills was a fabulous performance by Price as he shot 19 under and beat Corey Pavin by 6 shots. Nick also won the 92 PGA at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, by 3 shots and the 94 British Open by a shot over a faltering (bogey on 18) Jasper Parnevik by a shot giving Price back to back wins in majors in 1994, The PGA at Southern Hills and The British Open at Turnberry.

He topped the PGA Tour money list in 1993 and 1994, setting a new earnings record each time, and spent 43 weeks at number 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Price was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003. He also won two Vardon Trophys one in 1993 and the other in 1997.

Incidental highlights:

The 1986 Masters is best known for Jack Nicklaus' win. But in the first round, it was Nick Price who shot 63, a new record for low round at The Masters. Greg Norman has since tied the mark in 1996.

Nick Price has 44 professional tournament wins worldwide including 18 on the PGA Tour.

In 2002 Nick won The Payne Stewart Award. Which is an award given in honor of World Golf Hall of Famer Payne Stewart. It is given to a player who shows respect for the traditions of the game, commitment to uphold the game's heritage of charitable support and professional and meticulous presentation of himself and the sport through his dress and conduct.

Just remember him bitching when rumors were swirling that IMG was going to ask for TV revenue for Tiger and he was saying Did Jack, Arnold or I get money for TV ratings.

Tiger Woods you are not.

Put Nick Price in a Police lineup and see how many people can id him?

He had a good run, but he isn't, wasn't even close to Tiger in terms of fame, noteriety, and TV Ratings.

Honestly, ask people top name 5 golfers from last 20 years, I would bet his name doesn't even appear in 90% of people's lists.

I am not arguing that. My point is when there was talk of IMG asking for part of the TV revenue for Tiger, it is completely different than Price.

The average fan doesn't tune into watch Price.

I think we were both discussing two different things.

we are... agree that nobody ever turned on the tv hoping to see nick price was in the hunt.

but i imagine price thought in 1994 that he was among the all time greats after the 3 year stretch he ripped off... and if he made the comment based on what he did those years , he was fun to watch...

Fwiw

This thread is not about how great Nick Price is now, because he is now way past his prime and obviously struggles to win even on the Senior Circuit. I felt it was nice to see him find the winners circle again after 111 starts drawing an also ran. In his prime he was no Tiger Woods in fact no golfer in their prime is a Tiger Woods except Tiger Woods himself.

If I recall both Price and Norman left IMG together in 1994 or 95. I think Norman later went back. I have no recollection of Nick bitching about IMG asking for TV revenue from the PGA for Tiger so I can't comment on it.

Nck Price is a smart businessman who is a multi millionaire in his own right. He owns The Nick Price Group in Jupiter, Fla. with interests in course design, apparrel, golf equipment, and much more. In 2002 he was awarded the inaugral ASAP Jim Murray Award voted by sportswriters for the proessonal athelete who is the most quatable, accommodating and cooperative to interview.

BP...I was probably standing right by you when he played at Southern Hills. I followed Nick Price the whole weekend. I just had a feeling about him winning that tournament. That was back when he had "Squeaky" on his bag. Rest his soul.

John Daly should count his lucky stars, because it was "Squeaky," who got him around Crooked Stick to win the 1991 PGA. Nick Price stayed home for the birth of one of his children.
