Going out a limb here on the Pinnacle situation

It's 9:50pm EDT and this outstanding book has been unavailable for hours. My guess is that some group attempted to blackmail them into paying a fee to prevent being attacked - I've read something about that kind of thing recently - and that Pinnacle rightly refused, and they attacked their servers, as I mentioned in jest a lot earlier, with a coordinated denial-of-service attack.

Why would Pinnacle be singled out? Simple - that's where a whole lot of money is.

I will be following this with interest - GL, Pinnacle, if this is what happened.

It's a DNS problem. If anyone knows the IP, you should be able to get to them that way.

Their internet provider is apparently having problems. They also have a couple mirror sites, but I don't have their addy's on this machine.

TTinco: DNS = denial of service? I don't know their IP, it's too late anyway tonight for it to really matter to me, maybe to someone else if anyone knows it. And yes, I was kidding about Toledo, I have quite a few other outs if I'd had a 'vision'.

Jazz, I'm not Fish, but there appear to be more problems than the DNS "failure".

You may be right....someone may be trying to screw them for various directions now that everyone who is anyone has probably left the office.

TT: sorry, not sure why I typed Strut! lol - yeah, I'm thinking some bastards tried to hold them up, been researching this DNS crap on the net, a lot of surprising incidences of this you can find.

It's a damn shame if this is true.

I suspect that it's more than a DNS problem ..

their IP is 65.166.249.160 , but I still cannot connect.

btw if you ever need to find an ip for a given host name (www.blah.com) all you need to do is open a DOS prompt and type

ping www.blah.com

in this case ..

ping www.pinnaclesports.com

you will get a response like

Pinging www.pinnaclesports.com [65.166.249.160] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 65.166.249.160:

I suspect these are pro hackers, if it is hackers - here were my thoughts a few days ago on hackers ...

"And no, I couldn't live without my computer, I made my living on mainframes, I'm simply expressing a frustration of paying annual anti-virus extortion money due to asshole hackers and ****ed up MS software. Tell you what - HANG the ****ing hackers when they're convicted instead of hiring these assholes, let's see if that would work - lol."

The DNS problem is most likely an issue with their internet provider(ISP). As far as what else is going on(if anything), that's a different story.

This could still be just a DNS issue-sometimes it really tough to tell for sure until things "stablize".

I can't do a "tracert" even one hop out, which means that he DNS problem has propagated to at least a lot of internet providers.

Keep in mind, we may all be way off here.....lots of variables involved.

That seems like a pretty polite way of saying my 'RUSSIAN MAFIA HIRED BY BONUS WHORES TO ATTACK PINNACLE' theory might not quite be on target

Let's hope it's a more 'natural' than a man-made problem

That's horrible if a hacker is behind this crap. BTW we were told another site has posted openly on it's board about having folks hack us. I can't verify it firsthand but I really hope not. I have too much repsect for the guy in charge to let something like that stand.

Like T said, it could be a ton of things ...
ISP problems, network issues, DOS attacks, etc ...

Heck, it may have even been software related & Pinnacle knowingly went down so they fix it

Lander, if Pinnacle went down knowingly, and they advertise here, why haven't they posted anything about that HERE? In fact, why don't they EVER post anything here? I'd think they'd want to get the word out, to reassure customers they'll be around in the morning rush to book bets.
