Never been on a cruise and never been to Alaska. We board and disembark from seattle.

Anyone have any tips or comments?

(i.e. How warm should I pack? How much $ should I bring? What land excursions are good? Should I just cancel now and hit up Thailand?)

I just came back from Thailand and Cambodia. It was fucking awesome. Cheap as hell. Never been on a cruise but I hear the food is amazing so my tip would be to by some extra big clothes that you will grow into.

Just bring a rain jacket in case it rains, otherwise if the sun is out and it's not windy, it's as beautiful as it gets. You'll probably need some money if you are going to go on land and get seafood and alcohol. If you have a family with you I'd suggest Alaska, if you are single, I'd go to Thailand, lol.

I'm headed on an Alaskan cruise at the end of July. I'm bringing swimming trunks for pool/hot tub on the ship...

Definitely won't be swimming. But I wear shorts during the day most of the summer if I'm not at work. Jeans at night. It's actually a really beautiful place as long as you don't get a week where it's overcast, rainy, and windy. It can get in the 70s and the sun is out most of the night. The only scary thing is the wind. If you get a windy/rainy week it could be dreadful.

I've been on one seven day cruise back around 2000 and swore I would never go on another one and I haven't.

If I did cruise again, it would be Alaska. My best friend and his wife have been twice and loved it. They plan to take some grandkids again in 2015. They loved touring the towns on the stop overs plus the beautiful scenery from the ship.

Hope you enjoy as they have...............w-thumbs!^

Lol, yea been here a while. If you guys stop in Seward and stay the night, which I have no clue if you guys are or not... talk to the locals about a bar called the Pit. It's outside the boundaries of Seward and open til 5am. One of the few bars in Alaska open that late. Fun times there.

Also depends on the Ship they are using. I remember like 10 years ago Celebrity had a ship that the Pool deck was Glass inclosed .. not sure if it's still around.
Some ships have a Indoor Pool/Spa so Swim trunks are fine.

Don't take your swim trunks Shadow. You're on vacation, just freeball it.

Report back after you go. I've been on 3 cruises (2 Royal, 1 Disney) and loved all 3 of them. Will do it again and again someday. Never been on an Alaskan cruise though so curious your thoughts.

I did the NCL in may from ny to Bahamas and back... not bad... had a nice time but would of had an Amazing time if I went with another couple.. I love my girl... but bringing another couple would of been great! Also consider bringing walked talkees... phones don't work.. (obviously).. and those ships are s oooo fkn big... it will help u kindof reconnect if 1 p e'er son goes to casino.. or she wants to go to pool. And u want to go to bar... anyway... Have fun.. and get in the list early for the restraunts.. The time slots will fill up quick for the best places

I agree. I won't do another cruise here in the States again, but I am planning to do the Alaskan one as soon as I get the chance.
