Middle Tennessee State vs. Miami-O
Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile
8:00E ESPN
Line – Mid. Tenn. State -2, 48.5

One of these teams came into the 2010 season expecting to be conference champions; the other was just seeking improvement. It turns out the roles got reversed for this Mobile, AL matchup. Middle Tennessee State (6-6, 4-8 ATS) was the odds on favorite to be Sun Belt champs but was strapped from the start when quarterback Dwight Dasher was ruled ineligible for the first four games of the year. Upon his return, Dasher was out of sync with the rest of Blue Raiders and fell to 3-6. The Murfreesboro signal caller discovered his rhythm late and rattled off three straight wins to become bowl eligible. Middle Tennessee State would prefer to have balanced attack and they are 3-0 SU when RB Phillip Tanner runs for 100 or more yards, which combines nicely with Dasher’s passing. One problem, Miami-O ranks 19th against the run in FBS play this season. Off their 28-27 win at SBC champion Florida International, the Blue Raiders are 10-1 ATS after an upset win as an underdog.

Miami-0 (9-4, 8-5 ATS) was 1-11 in coach Mike Haywood’s first season, but his preaching from day one was for his players to be accountable to themselves. (Ironic now) This season was headed downward after losing at home to Ohio U. 34-13 and staring at them was three straight conference road games. The situation seemed bleak for the Redhawks. However, Miami never quit, won their last four regular season games despite losing starting quarterback Zac Dysert to injury and won the MAC East crown. Miami-O created further turbulence in the conference by upsetting heavily favored Northern Illinois 26-21 and became the most unlikely of champions. Redshirt quarterback Austin Boucher took over quarterback responsibilities and let it rip to three victories in a row. The Redhawks are 2-6 ATS off spread win and will be without their coach who took the Pittsburgh gig and blew it.

Miami-O is 6-3 and 1-1 ATS as bowler and M.T.S. is 1-1 SU and ATS.
