and Niekro strikes out in the PH appearance. Awesome.

Good thing the Padres bullpen is solid. Peavy gets through 7, Meredith finishes the 8th, and Hoffman closes it. clockwork. fuck me

Actually, Meredith is the 7th inning guy, Linebrink gets the 8th, Trevor Time in the 9th (if necessary).

Pitchers duels can be fun too...although the public likes runs, when two weak offenses like these face off, and runs are at a minum, its almost a battle of which offense is not as weak as the other. Instead of which offense is stronger....(hope that makes sense, as I am now on my 7th Heinekin!!)

Or which defense blows it first...Giants already lost that battle.

Giants need a run here in the 6th or this game is over.

Vizquel, Bonds, Durham, Aurilia coming up. Wow, this is a pathetic lineup. Ray Durham batting cleanup...ugh.

Peavy looking sharp as hell. Watch out of he can finally stay healthy and get some run support. He already has an ERA and K title on his resume. His slider is wicked today.

Exactly.

Peavy didn't get any run support last year. I could count the times he left a game losing 2-1 or 3-2 last year in the 7th or 8th.

True, which is why I expected the opposite and layed off the under...was enticing but will 7.5-8.0 under be a winner?...after mulling that over I decided a side was a better play and went with, what I thought was the better pitcher at a dog price...game is far from over but I chewed your thoughts exactly....and a side was a better play than a total..in my humble opinion!!

For all you Giants backers who are giving up on this game, I can tell you as a Padres fan that Hoffman ALWAYS struggles the 1st week of the season and has blown saves on opening day in recent memory.

always a chance though when bonds gets a plate appearance in teh 9th. who knows.

As long as Durham is batting behind him, I would plunk Bonds in the dome everytime. You can't miss it.

The Giants bullpen is such a joke...it is going to be a long season.

Sanchez with a beauty...gets the strikeout with runner on 3rd and no outs...then throws the first pitch to Giles off the backstop in the air to score the run on the wild pitch.
