I may be moving to Vegas in the near future and would like to work in a casino. The thing that may be a problem is that I'm a felon. Does anyone know if this prohibits a person from working in a casino? It was not anything violent or theft related if that matters. Anyone with knowledge in this subject can chime in. Thanks.

Good luck, not going to get far in this town. Everyone does a background check here, even if you want to work retail at the mall. Maybe construction work will take you on.

This may be a stretch but are there any casino's near where you live? If so I am sure they have some affilition with a vegas casino...in which case you can try to get an interview and see what they say to be sure before you go out there on a wing and a prayer...or try calling some casinos and setting up phone interviews if possible.

I want to say they are only allowed to look back 10 years. I may be wrong but I used to be a manager at a casino and I seem to recall something like that.

Well, my arrest was in '97, but I did not get off of probation til '02. I'm not sure which one would be considered the 10 years.

I live in Ohio, no casinos here. There is an MGM in Detroit that I go to a lot. I saw that a place called Poker Palace is looking for someone for their sportsbook. I considered calling them but it says to apply in person.

I have no problem saying what it was for.

I'm an animal rights activist and in '97 I was arrested for breaking into a mink farm (where they raise animals for fur) and releasing mink. Technically the charges were Breaking and entering, possesion of criminal tools and Vandalism. All of which are 5th degree felonies. Here in Ohio felonies go from 1-5, 5 being the lowest offense. You can't even be sentenced to jail for a first time 5th degree felony. It is probably the same as a high misdemeanor in most states.

Have you looked into getting that expunged, and is your record clean since then?

Try to cut a deal with the DA in your presiding court to get it taken off the record. maybe some community service or some shit. A good lawyer is probably all you need, and about $5k....!

If you move to NV with it still on your record you will have to register with Metro as a felon.

When you "released" the mink, did you assume they would be survive just because you set them free in the wild, or did you take precautions to ensure they would be able to survive? From what I've read, mink can't survive in the wild, and if separated from their litter, actually start eating each other. If you're going to commit a crime, you might as well make it burglary. Steal the mink and raise them yourself. They'd be better off. But by setting them free, you just ensure their deaths in a less humane way.

I always wondered about animal rights activists like you. I went vegetarian for 3 years and even joined PETA, but never did the thought of committing a crime to support my world view cross my mind. It's always funny to see some PETA or ALF member committing a crime, and actually do more harm to themselves and their cause than good.

Poker Palace is a real Shithole little place in North LV. Construction doesn't require a Sheriff's card. I think you'd be fine, if you get this offense sealed, then casino work an option.

you wont have much of an issue for a felon like that...being a felon does NOT keep u from casino work....especially some small offense like that...most importantly they dont want any violent offenders or theifs that have anything in last 10 years....its on a case by case basis

Freeing minks? Hardly a felon. I disagree with everyone here, just explain your situation and you should be fine.

Edit - Agree with guy above me

Casino's can be picky and some gaming boards tougher than others. I have worked in Casino's for 15 years. Illinois and A.C are tough and I have heard horror stories. The disclosure forms in those states are very long and I even had to provide 4 years of tax returns for a job there (as well as the 30 pages of INFO i provided and full set of PRINTS and mugshot, drug test etc.). I believe Nevada is a bit more laxxed, and have heard stories of people with criminal records even dealing at lesser joints. GL.

Get that shit expunged!!!!!!!!

Currently in Florida, they are laxxed but still do a full background for ANY felony here that would disqualify an applicant.

In Illinois dealers have been fired for fantasy football and flipping coins in the break room (tough gaming board). As well as not disclosing a Crime commited since hiring such as a DUI as well as small petty things forgetton on their disclosure.

If you want some good feedback pose this question at a forum I frequent (non-sports gambling related) www.casinodealers.net. All questions would be answered there.
