The Dawgs will now be without their head coach (Richt), their offensive coordinator (Schottenheimer) and their defensive coordinator (Pruitt) for the January 2, Taxslayer Bowl against Penn State. Right now, Georgia is a touchdown -6.5 favorite over the Lions. It's not clear which coaches will even be around for the game because new coach Kirby Smart is putting together his own staff.

Mark Richt is in Miami recruiting and interviewing coaches. Brian Schottenheimer was not retained by Smart and walked. Jeremy Pruitt is the new DC for Alabama and has already taken an office there.

Frecken mess for the Dawgs it seems...........................

well new OC, Jim Chaney, already left Pitt for UGA so will be the OC for bowl game and their TE coach, RB coach were retained and new OL coach (Arky guy) is in place so he will have plenty of support (not to mention that schotty's play calling was horrendous) ...

defensively a bit more interesting. Schumman left Bama for UGA so will put the defensive game plan together as he did at Bama with Saban/Smart but right now no DC, no LB coach, no ST coach, no secondary coach. and Rocker (DL coach) has not been signed yet so no idea who is calling the shots unless they fill those slots in next 2 weeks

Georgia is reporting tight ends coach John Lilly will call offensive plays and outside linebacker coach
Kevin Sherrer will call defensive plays.

Time to lock in Penn State +6.5 for me.

tide I read the other night in Pittsburgh news Chaney left Pitt, he has been great every where he has gone. how do you think pitt fills that void or have they? i think the future is very bright @ Pitt.

on a personal note I think UGA can show up and beat " State Penn" ( a LoL for tide ) with NO coaches.. UGA will be fine when the dust settles

BigDaddy was a half wit, but he was still smarter than this taint licker with one brain tied behind his back...He does do his research like BigDaddy though..In other words he doesn't.

Keep in mind that PSU is going through some coaching changes of their own. They'll have a QB coach as OC with no playcalling experience calling the plays. Unless Franklin decides to call the plays. And they are already dealing with a struggling offense. UGA is obviously in worst shape. Just keep in mind that statistically they are better on both sides of the ball. But on the other hand, as bad as Donovan was for PSU, it could be a blessing in disguise. This is basically a game where your taking a wild guess with the coaching and how these players will react to it..

GS, my big concern is the Georgia players "mind set" for even playing this game.

Rumors out of Athens is the excitement is just not there.

I agree Georgia has the better players....for a bowl game that doesn't always play
out to a win.

I like Penn State in this one (full disclosure...I have struggled this season)

booster buddy of mine says they got their guy this week but since it is recruiting dead period he wants to coach through his bowl game before getting announced. i called bullshit on this but he's much closer to the program and I am...he would not tell me a name or how he knew but there wouldn't be a recruiting advantage to making an announcement this week since you can't call a recruit for the next 3+ weeks anyway.

Chaney got a big re-commit from Eason this week so that was a great snag for him. he is a hell of a judge of qb and knew immediately that voytik was not his guy so went out and snagged peterman. most pitt guys really didn't like chaney as he's not a visible or energetic fella but a great X's and O's guy.

i really don't know where they go unless my buddy is dead on accurate that they already have a hire. narduzzi is pretty well married to a pro style and the young guys out there that would be interested in moving from a non-power 5 to pitt are mostly spread. nard's reach is pretty long and he is really well connected across the country so i don't expect it to take long to get a hire. was a good weekend for Pitt recruiting with 4 new verbals and two pitt leans are holding their press conference on friday. if they can keep all these guys and then get 1 more RB (either sanders or washington) it will be an excellent first full class for narduzzi.

future bright? maybe. as much as i like narduzzi he will be getting some really attractive offers when he puts together another 8+ win season next year and slaps around state penn on sept 12. He has no ties to western PA so if a top 15 gig comes open, or Dantonio retires, he's probably gonna roll. Conklin is an absolute star DC and he'll probably he wanted by some big program in the next year or two as well

I also have a lean to State Penn at this line. Franklin has been feeling some heat from this season. He'll probably treat this game like a super bowl since a non cover loss would be an embarassment against basically a coachless team...

Lay that number with Georgia at your own risk. Totally disappointing year for a team with championship hopes. Coaches gone. Headed to play an opponent no one seems to respect--a team that is happy to be bowling in Florida. Last two times out, I saw Georgia nearly lose at home to God-awful Georgia Southern, and squeak one out against depleted Georgia Tech.

Penn State got boatraced by Michigan State, but I sense there may be a motivation edge for the Lions. And even though the number looked bad for PSU against Sparty, they only got out-gained by 18 yards in that game.

PSU has the QB advantage, has a decent rushing defense, and has the motivation edge. Plus the line is dropping. I'm not sure how you can come to the UGA conclusion here. Does not compute.
