MLB 4/22 Review (Partial Notes)
4/22 MLB Recap:
St.L @ S.D.
-Cardinals hurt themselves in this one, w/ Diaz base running “error”
-Wainwright had a QS, Cashner was very good and pitched out of a couple jams for the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] consecutive time on the mound.
-Timely hitting by the Padres, 2-out RBI (which is key). Wil Myers was the hero for the Padres in this one, coming up big offensively on a couple of occassions
-Cards 0-6 RISP // SD 0-4, 4 power base hits for the Pads//only 2 for the Cards
*Next up GM 2/3
Cards roll out Michael Wacha who has pitched well so far
S.D. comes out w/ AA SP to fill in for Robbie Erlin
NOTE: don’t go up against a fresh up from minors pitcher, especially when St. Louis is beating themselves at times.
Miami @ SFO
-as a I suspected that the Marlins would be in for let down performance after a great win @ home and then traveling across country
-Giants had a great effort and to further that SP J. Samardz. dominated at the plate
-box score tells the story Giants had 18 RISP and connected 5x // Marlins 1-9 RISP with only 1 power hit (a double)
Note: SF bullpen only threw about 20 pitches on the night.
Up Next:
Marlins come out w/ their ace Jose Fernandez and go up against Jake Peavy who was shelled a couple of starts ago.
Sea v. LAA
-hey! guess who almost got a meaningful hit A.P. à result, grounded into inning-ending double play.
-Mariners SP rested the bullpen with 8.0 full in this 10 inning game.
-Angels were just 0-2 RISP, they did manage 2 EBH (extra base hits or power hits)
-Angels SP Tropeano was servicable going into the 6[SUP]th[/SUP], he did allow 4BB & 5H…***The Angels BP was stellar until the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] were Alvarez was blasted
-Ms are now 7-3 on the road and showing world-class toughness close and late, that is scary if you go against them.
-Cano is a huge difference maker in this lineup.
NOTE: right now the Ms are dangerous team, they have been struggling at home, but this isn’t the D’Backs, these are proven guys who can play well at any given time.
Next Up: GM 2/3
Not yet sure if Hernandez will go (start pushed back a day for illness) OR M. Montgomery
Dangerous Hector Santiago, who the Angels always seem to win with will go today for the Angels
Pitt v. Ariz
-Bucs showed great power in this game, on the road that is very impressive. This team built off of that San Diego game
Note: I was srtongly considering being on AZ, and I shoud reevaluate my thought process.
-at the end of the day, Pitt go the big out in the 8[SUP]th[/SUP]. This game was played to a draw.
-what is very impressive is the Pirates efficient and power box score 5-8 RISP // 4-14 RISP, that really tells a lot of the story, right there.
Note: Arizona’s BP couldn’t hold onto anything and Pitt used an extra long save by Mlancon to get the win. In my mind Melancon was the hero in this one.
Up Next: GM 2/3
Bucs roll out Jan Nicasio, who is a decent arm…he did have one bad outing so far.
Rubby De La Rosa will have to go into SP mode after being used in the BP, this is a very difficult thing to do.
LAD v COL
-Colorado’s SP Gray got roughed up a bit in his return from DL
-Rockies powered their way back into this game
*big 2out hit from LAD, really disappointing loss for the Dodgers especially with the big hits
-Dodgers prance around like they have own something before, arrogance may be at the cost of completeness.
-Scott Kazhmir looked okay for the Dodgers.
*the real story is that the Dodgers BP couldn’t put the Rockies away with 2 outs in the 8[SUP]th[/SUP], instead they let up a power hit that socred two runs.
Up Next: 2/3
Kenta Meada goes back to the hill for the Dodgers, he has been insanely good in his 1[SUP]st[/SUP] 3 starts
Tyler Chatwood will oppose him, he shut down some really good bats in Chicago last time out.
*Total of 11 runs seems a bit high, for these two pitchers.
NOTE: don’t just handicap use the talents you have
Bal v KC
-say it again: Mike Moustakas, put Royals on the board in a limited offensive game = the difference maker, right now in Royals games
-Os just 3 chances w/ RISP, SP Young did an effective job and Royals BP did what they do.
NOTE: Gallardo left in 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] inning w/ shoulde pain.
-Danger Zone: Royals just 1-7 w/ RISP in this one.
Up Next: 2/3
Spot start for the Os w/ Tyler Wilson
Kris Medlen will look to improve upon his last outing against the As, where he was lights out.
Bos v Hous
-Astros went into this one not being able to “buy” a win
-Sox bats have come alive in the past couple of games, Mookie Betts has been red hot.
-Astros 10 LOB, just horrible.
-Stros used their BP from the 5[SUP]th[/SUP] on,
UP Next:
Stros need to get something together quick having to put Mike Fiers on the mound, who has been hit hard this season
Sox are looking for second stellar start from Clay Buchz. who shut down the Jays (which seemingly isn’t hard to do these days).
