MLB Write-Up Game (Brief) 913 Los Angeles Angels @ 914 Chicago White Sox

-Angels are a real talent, and real talent can do enough to win versus the struggling J. Danks.

-Halos starting pitching has been very good, that can be contagious and Jered Weaver has a good chance to hold the Sox to a couple of runs.

-It’s always nice to face an ace one night and almost win, then come back and face a guy like Danks (in his current predicament) and be able to put up 3 or 4 runs – which seemingly will be enough

-Looking for Angels to even up the series and get out of town.

MLB Notes for Recap of 4/21

4/21 Recap
Pirates v Padres
-Pirates showed some good hustle in this game, 2-out RBIs
à this team hit on all cylinders w/ an 11-1 win and AVOID the sweep at San Diego

Houston v Texas
Rangers hit the 160 favorite Kuechel – including timely 2out RBI
Rangers used the longball to win this game
AJ Griffin allowed 4H over 6 Inning
Closer Tolleson ptiched in all 3 games in this series, so Rangers may need to rest him if needed versus Ch W.S.

Detroit v KC
-Royals Moustakas was big part of this win, and big defensive plays
Royals Edison Volquez pitched out of a jam, and did a seemingly great job 3-0, 1.46
Cubs are in let down mode after huge 16-0 win

Oakland v NYY
-it’s hard to believe this game was close and late, As hit 3 bombs late in the game
-Yanks have lost 7/8 games and As are winners of 5 straight.
-Yanks have dangerous defense and the hitting should come, bullpen may be a concern

Toronto v Baltimore
Classic division game, very enteretaining.
-Os got 3 hitless innings from the BP to win this one.
-Both offenses seemed a little stagnant. Os benefited from a glove defect … it was a weird game
Toronto allowed the Os to out survive them in back-to-back games…this may say something about the Jays character as ballclub

TB v Bos
-Red Sox bullpen looked like a disgrace giving up 4 unanswered runs after mounting a huge comeback
-David Price is pitching like #4 or #5
-Rays showed great resliency in keeping pace, after battling through several Sox comebacks.
Note: check how the Rays BP is doing…they looked spotty in this one.
-Not sure how the Sox managed 8 runs with that lineup, they relied on a couple of old horses in Ortiz and Pedroia … defense was not spectacular from this team, either.

Sea v Cleve
-Mariners hit very timely in this game, great performance
-Cleveland showed great fight, but couldn’t get the solid pitching they needed close and late
-Tribe came back down 5-0, which shows fight
-Sea R. Cano was the “hero” of this game on a couple of occasions.
-Ms didn’t get phased by the Tribes strong come-from-behind play.

Wash v. Miami
-This is a great win for the Marlins…
a) Nats big man Bryce Harper led the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] inning off w/ a big solo HR
b) Marlins responds by hitting Scherezer for a 3-run, game decidign HR in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] inning
Huge underdog win, during a day game.
Alert: let down game coming for the Marlins, having to travel west and play SFG
Note: Tom Koehler pitched a fantastic game, this guy is always a sleeper.
-Marlins got the split, nice job.

AZ vs SFG
-ugly game for Cueto, and even uglier game for Giants…failing to put a decent innning after 4 straight walks to lead off and inning.
-Arizona SP S. Miller now has had B2B games where his finger has bothered him on the mound.
-Giants BP has been a bit unreliable, which is a big problem … Giants have lost 4 straight games and got swept by the Diamondbacks
-Arizona travels back home to face Pittsburgh, who showed some life tonight.

LAD v ATL
-Braves could have won this game with better offense, especially early in this game.
-Kershaw continually pitched his way out of jams – Braves offense is non-existent
-Braves are not an easy win despite record, great job by the Dodgers to win at Atlanta.
-Braves SP Wisler pitched a heck of a game.

MLB 4/22 Review (Partial Notes)

4/22 MLB Recap:

St.L @ S.D.
-Cardinals hurt themselves in this one, w/ Diaz base running “error”
-Wainwright had a QS, Cashner was very good and pitched out of a couple jams for the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] consecutive time on the mound.
-Timely hitting by the Padres, 2-out RBI (which is key). Wil Myers was the hero for the Padres in this one, coming up big offensively on a couple of occassions
-Cards 0-6 RISP // SD 0-4, 4 power base hits for the Pads//only 2 for the Cards
*Next up GM 2/3
Cards roll out Michael Wacha who has pitched well so far
S.D. comes out w/ AA SP to fill in for Robbie Erlin
NOTE: don’t go up against a fresh up from minors pitcher, especially when St. Louis is beating themselves at times.

Miami @ SFO
-as a I suspected that the Marlins would be in for let down performance after a great win @ home and then traveling across country
-Giants had a great effort and to further that SP J. Samardz. dominated at the plate
-box score tells the story Giants had 18 RISP and connected 5x // Marlins 1-9 RISP with only 1 power hit (a double)
Note: SF bullpen only threw about 20 pitches on the night.
Up Next:
Marlins come out w/ their ace Jose Fernandez and go up against Jake Peavy who was shelled a couple of starts ago.

Sea v. LAA
-hey! guess who almost got a meaningful hit A.P. à result, grounded into inning-ending double play.
-Mariners SP rested the bullpen with 8.0 full in this 10 inning game.
-Angels were just 0-2 RISP, they did manage 2 EBH (extra base hits or power hits)
-Angels SP Tropeano was servicable going into the 6[SUP]th[/SUP], he did allow 4BB & 5H…***The Angels BP was stellar until the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] were Alvarez was blasted
-Ms are now 7-3 on the road and showing world-class toughness close and late, that is scary if you go against them.
-Cano is a huge difference maker in this lineup.
NOTE: right now the Ms are dangerous team, they have been struggling at home, but this isn’t the D’Backs, these are proven guys who can play well at any given time.
Next Up: GM 2/3
Not yet sure if Hernandez will go (start pushed back a day for illness) OR M. Montgomery
Dangerous Hector Santiago, who the Angels always seem to win with will go today for the Angels

Pitt v. Ariz
-Bucs showed great power in this game, on the road that is very impressive. This team built off of that San Diego game
Note: I was srtongly considering being on AZ, and I shoud reevaluate my thought process.
-at the end of the day, Pitt go the big out in the 8[SUP]th[/SUP]. This game was played to a draw.
-what is very impressive is the Pirates efficient and power box score 5-8 RISP // 4-14 RISP, that really tells a lot of the story, right there.
Note: Arizona’s BP couldn’t hold onto anything and Pitt used an extra long save by Mlancon to get the win. In my mind Melancon was the hero in this one.
Up Next: GM 2/3
Bucs roll out Jan Nicasio, who is a decent arm…he did have one bad outing so far.
Rubby De La Rosa will have to go into SP mode after being used in the BP, this is a very difficult thing to do.

LAD v COL
-Colorado’s SP Gray got roughed up a bit in his return from DL
-Rockies powered their way back into this game
*big 2out hit from LAD, really disappointing loss for the Dodgers especially with the big hits
-Dodgers prance around like they have own something before, arrogance may be at the cost of completeness.
-Scott Kazhmir looked okay for the Dodgers.
*the real story is that the Dodgers BP couldn’t put the Rockies away with 2 outs in the 8[SUP]th[/SUP], instead they let up a power hit that socred two runs.
Up Next: 2/3
Kenta Meada goes back to the hill for the Dodgers, he has been insanely good in his 1[SUP]st[/SUP] 3 starts
Tyler Chatwood will oppose him, he shut down some really good bats in Chicago last time out.
*Total of 11 runs seems a bit high, for these two pitchers.
NOTE: don’t just handicap use the talents you have

Bal v KC
-say it again: Mike Moustakas, put Royals on the board in a limited offensive game = the difference maker, right now in Royals games
-Os just 3 chances w/ RISP, SP Young did an effective job and Royals BP did what they do.
NOTE: Gallardo left in 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] inning w/ shoulde pain.
-Danger Zone: Royals just 1-7 w/ RISP in this one.
Up Next: 2/3
Spot start for the Os w/ Tyler Wilson
Kris Medlen will look to improve upon his last outing against the As, where he was lights out.

Bos v Hous
-Astros went into this one not being able to “buy” a win
-Sox bats have come alive in the past couple of games, Mookie Betts has been red hot.
-Astros 10 LOB, just horrible.
-Stros used their BP from the 5[SUP]th[/SUP] on,
UP Next:
Stros need to get something together quick having to put Mike Fiers on the mound, who has been hit hard this season
Sox are looking for second stellar start from Clay Buchz. who shut down the Jays (which seemingly isn’t hard to do these days).

4/23 Play 923 Boston Red Sox +120 (Buchz./Fiers)

-Red Sox bats are hot...This game may very well be a 2-0, 2-1 type of game but I believe the Sox can do just enough to get the run they need to win
-Sox SP Clay Bucz. has a good opportunity to build off of his last outing (stellar vs high quality opponent) and shut down a dormant Astros offense

*It is very possible that the Astros get a little something going offensively today, but they have to contend with the Sox who seemed to be getting in a groove with contributions from different parts of the lineup
-Houston has used their bullpen a lot and showed the Sox some key pitchers last night, a competitive edge IF the game is close and late (which I fully expect).
-If you are on the Astros you are HOPING that they wake up, the old "they are due"...no such thing exists in this world. If they happen to get some big hits (which my gut tells me they will), it is merely a turn of events that is not foreseeable.

4/23 962 Arizona Diamondbacks -116 (bookmaker.eu)

-SP has been great for D'Backs and the bullpen has been very good as well (for the most part)
-D'Backs bullpen is well rested after a big win and long SP (starting pitching) performance yesterday
-Pirates will lose a hot bad in Jaso, since he sits versus lefties

*Real reason I am betting the game is that Arizona is finding ways to win and hitting really well -> I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Francisco Liriano has a quality start 7.0 2R, type of outing...Arizona is finding ways to win.

I like how Arizona C Castillo handled today's starter, Robbie Ray, the last time out...that is something to build off.

I am anticipating a very low scoring, close and late ball game.

924 Seattle Mariners (Fister/Walker) -140 (bookmaker.eu) 140/100

-It is well-known that the Mariners have struggled to play well at Safeco so far this season. This fact puts a -140 bet at more of an elevated risk than what I normally shoot for (anything -150 is really climbing the ladder)
-Mariners are playing very good baseball, they don’t have to travel to far (only from Los Angeles) and the bullpen is in great shape.
-I am assuming Astros 5-man Doug Fister (a great back-end of a rotation guy) is going to put in a quality start.
-Ms should be anxious to show the home crowd what they figured out on this long trip, in terms of better team play.
-Ms SP T. Walker has been stellar the Ms bullpen has an easy of things for the most part while visiting the Angels over the weekend.
Runs may be at a premium in this game and the Ms are truly a -119 , but I don’t bet value … I bet to win, despite doing very little of that, lately :)

965 Chicago White Sox -116 (Sale/Dickey/bookmaker.eu) Risk 116/100

*Go w/ Sale, CL Robertson is probably not available but this is a good thing.

This game is hopefully decided in the early innings, if Chicago doesn't have the lead late they are in trouble.

Too many guys coming up big for Chicago to pass on them w/ an ace to back them up.

Wednesday, April 27th Games of Interest (GOI)

Here are the following games I would take time to consider ... all other games seem like they can be serious trouble for a long term betting strategy (i.e. odds are too high or teams are too volatile day-to-day).

909 Pittsburgh Pirates
P: 5:40p
910 Colorado Rockies

917 Oakland Athletics
P: 4:05p
918 Detroit Tigers

921 New York Yankees
P: 5:05p
922 Texas Rangers

923 Cleveland Indians
P: 5:10p
924 Minnesota Twins

925 Kansas City Royals
P: 7:05p
926 Los Angeles Angels

Play, 909 Pittsburgh Pirates +110 (bookmaker.eu)

*there is a good chance Rockies may have to pitch around guys to get outs tonight...

Las Vegas "wise guys" seem to be on Colorado tonight, really not sure why...the expect this kid Jon Gray to bail them out

*I always bet assuming the worse, like Gray does have a strong quality start, I still like this game...even though I expect to be a close and late situation.

Jonathan Niese cannot be expected to pitch stellar tonight, Colorado will put up some runs against the lefty (more likely than not), even still he has received great run support

I am making this play because I believe Niese can keep the Pirates in the game tonight and then it goes to the bullpens, where the Pirates are likely to keep getting big hits in key situations.
