I'm not a pot guy. Think it's disgusting but I do see the plight of pot smokers. Cigarettes are legal and pot isn't it? Pathetic system.

Gays can marry in some States and even adopt kids but pot illegal. In the good old days there'd be a revolution..nowadays people are just lazy and take whatever the government gives them. The most people will do is complain on some forum and that's about it....oh like me right now!

I was in a drug class one day, and argued the same fact cause I was uninformed and the guy there taught me a lesson..

Alcohol negatively affects just about every organ in your body. Cocaine mostly fucks with your brain.

You can take anything in moderation, even cocaine if used in moderation doesn't kill you. Thing is its so addictive.

But so is alcohol, for every one coke head there is 100s of alcoholics, alcohol is available anywhere and its socially accepted.. You tell me which one is more dangerous?

I see. They also say alcohol, not just red wine, a glass or 2 a day is good for you and helps you live longer. I'd still have to pick cocaine. I mean if I had kids, and they came home and said they are using one, I'd pick alcohol. Know what I mean? My gf in med, agrees. Just msnd her. Then again she's just an intern what's she know.

Beer and red wine in moderation is probably good for you.. I doubt Scotch Whiskey 100 proof shit taken everyday is good.. Kills the liver.

I see what you mean though. Cocaine is obviously bad dont get me wrong I'm just trying to make a point.

A lot of drunk drivers out on the road, men beating their wives etc. All of that drama caused by alcohol its not only health.

I completely understand what you are saying. Alcohol has wrecked many lives and families torn apart. Also, it's cheap to get(compared to hard drugs at least I suppose) and you can get it anywhere.

FYI, possession of marijuana is legal in Alaska (up to 4 ozs in private residences). It is also legal to possess in 14 other states for those who qualify under state medical marijuana laws.

As to your mention, "the most people will do is complain on some forum and that's about it" belies the reality that all of the above was accomplished during the past 14 years by literally tens of thousands of Americans mobilizing the needed legal forces within their states. Many of the changed laws came via passage of ballot initiatives which were brought to the ballot thanks to the work of thousands of people within the respective state and then the votes of literally millions. Others were changed via their state legislature whose members were lobbied and motivated by, again, tens of thousands of constituents within the respective states.

In the coming 6 to 36 months, you can expect to see at least another half dozen U.S. states pass laws permitting legal possesion for medical marijuana and a similar number (or more) passing changes to current law that will decriminalize possession for all adults.

Barring a return to the White House of a Republican President in 2012, we can then look to see another half dozen or more states continue the trend during the 2013-2016 time frame. It's also quite likely that at least a few states will eliminate all criminal laws against adult possession and commercial distribution of marijuana. This latter forecast is based on the very sensible public comments made in support of such discussion by Arnold S in California and also the Governor of New York.

So many people deal pot it's not even funny. Even in high schools, junior high. So many chics at my old high school used to trade sex for pot. It would get rid of a lot of crime but there's still hard drugs dealers and that won't go away.

I can't say I care about pot being legalized. I really don't get the big deal of smoking it.

alcohol is worse than cocaine and meth and its still legal..

Actually, it's somewhat unreasonable to "rank" one drug as being any more or less harmful than any other(s) because all drugs have their positive uses and also have potential risks which must be weighed by anyone considering their use.

Many people have absolutely no trouble using the drug alcohol and others have little trouble using cocaine or pharmacuetical grade methamphetamine.

But each of the above requires an educated approach and an awareness of the potential risks. The most common problem for any of them is overuse and inappropriate use. (time/place etc)

All the above aside, regardless of how each of us might view the potential risk of ANY drug(s), we can be guaranteed that those risks are exacerbated and multiplied when that drug is illegal to possess or to commercially distribute (Prohibition).

Cocaine is a hard drug and very addictive.

Cocaine can stimulate dependency much quicker than many other drugs, which is why it should only be used in moderation, IMHO and based on my own years of use (none since 1995).

As to the term, "hard drug", virtually all drugs are "hard" if used inappropriately and/or to excess.

You make it sound like it's ok to use cocaine.

''Cocaine can stimulate dependency'' That's what I said, it's very addictive.

In moderation? You're not serious right?

Alcohol negatively affects just about every organ in your body. Cocaine mostly fucks with your brain.

This is a fairly reasonable summary.

Cocaine stimulates parts of the brain in such a pleasurable fashion that the user can be "tricked" into overusing.

Excessive use of cocaine has a couple of adverse side effects and it is those side effects, and not the cocaine itself, which create the most problems for an excessive user

1) Sleep deprivation - Cocaine has very strong stimulant properties and when used repeatedly can inspire someone to stay awake for 30, 40 and even 50+ hours. The body requires sleep, but moreso the brain requires sleep in order to function properly. Google the adverse effects that come from sleep deprivation if you're not already aware.

2) Reduction or Elimination of Appetite for Food & Water - This is again a component mainly of the strong stimulant properties, but also in part the anesthetic properties of cocaine. Failure to eat for a day, or two days (or more) of course leads to general physical deterioration and in more extreme cases, severe malnutrition and weight loss. Also, the normal urges for water are reduced (mainly in response to the anesthetic effects) and this of course leads to dehydration. Subsequent effects include general physical deterioration, most visible in the mouth and dental areas.

My personal experiences using cocaine on and off over about a 15 year period and the shared experiences of people with who I've worked in drug recovery & treatment settings leads me to believe that for most people, cocaine is a pretty good experience. But unfortunately, repeated use of cocaine more often than say, five to six times a year, too easily leads to periods of excessive use. And even if those periods are just a few days, or if they're longer, it's just too STRONG a drug.

Much akin to using 'drunk-level' of alcohol over repeated days or weeks.

See my subsequent post to the one which you mention with the above quote.

I've known plenty of people who enjoy the use of cocaine on a "once a month" type basis, especially when combined with alcohol in a safe setting (home or other trusted venue)

So, yes - it can be used in moderation.

However, it's got that edge which can more easily inspire one to "tip over" the edge into more frequent use. And though that may only be for a short time, most of us probably don't want to waste our valuable days or weeks messing around.

I don't know too many people over the age of 40 who use cocaine more than a couple times a year. It can be a great party drug for a long night or one long weekend. But it's just too much to do beyond that, imho.

Speaking of sleep deprivation. I read an article about some theory that humans don't really need sleep and they just sleep because they have always been taught to. They believe they should be tired and sleepy so therefore they are.

It went on to say that humans don't need sleep at all and it serves you no purpose. The theory suggests that you only feel like crap or suffer from symtoms of sleep deprivation because you are taught that you will suffer from effect of sleep deprivation. It also claimed that humans will one day in the future not sleep at all.

I found all this farfetched. I mean I know for sure I can't function without regular sleep let alone no sleep. On days I haven't slept I'm weak, can't focus, irritable, and so on.

Anybody buy that theory that humans don't really need sleep and they are just programmed to sleep? Why'd they start then anyways way back? I'd love to know what our ancestors' sleeping habits were like.

As we agreed, it's highly addictive, noway users can control to what extent they use it. I think it's silly to suggest it's a great party drug or it can be used in moderation.

My friends in recovery and I have adopted a mantra with which we all pretty much agree.

The best way to "cure" a cocaine problem?

Give the user ALL he can handle.

See, what happens with 95% of people who use cocaine more than a few times is that they run out - mainly due to the cost and/or ease of access.

And a few days or weeks go by and then they get some more and do it again...maybe even to excess for a couple days. And then they run out.

And this cycle continues for perhaps many months, or even a few years, gradually degrading to where they are using inappropriate times and places and to the disadvantage of their finances.

Heretofore, the most common response then is to say, "You need to STOP using 100%. You need to get into a treatment program and STAY CLEAN...etc"

While this is not neccesarily bad counsel, my friends and I have come to believe that a much quicker way to bring the AB-user to heel is to give them ALL the cocaine they can handle. Eliminate the problems with cost and supply. Make sure they have ALL they want.

Not one would make it more than a few weeks. Six weeks max.

And then they would be crawling forward saying, "NO MORE...." - A 20% or more weight loss....A brain that hasn't slept a full eight hours in weeks. A pecker that hasn't been able to be hard in that same time span...(heh).

The above can best be illustrated by observing the "other side" of cocaine abusers. That is, NOT the JoeRegularGuy who used in the pattern I describe above.

Rather, it is the celebrity, or pro athlete or anyone else who is NOT encumbered by the cost of the cocaine or the availability. They can get as much as they want as often as they want.

And almost always, it's just a few months, maybe a year at most before they are just saying, "FUCK....NO MORE". And thanks to their financial status they're usually able to get into a safe and healthy detox program and they can afford to be "off work" for a couple months, after which they're done. And they don't go back because they learned, hard and fast, how overuse of cocaine is great for a few days, but long term it's just a dead end.
