Back in the day, I worked at a fuel dock when that fuel shortage hit.(the block long lines at the pumps)

Our tanks were full (a few million gallons) I was told to tell people we had no fuel. Seems we joined a conspiracy to drive up the price. And the prices did indeed go up.

Hey General there is on average 100% tax on gasoline where I live as it is now $2.20 a gallon and $1.10 a gallon on the exchanges,

who's pocket's we lining there ?

must feel pretty stupid posting about invading a country for cheap oil as it hits record prices.

do not make personal attacks on other posters in our forums sodium.....u seem to have the same problem in the political forum, and the rules are no different here......consider this a warning....

thank you

Gas prices can easily be reduced. All it takes is for a big majority of Americans to unite together, act upon, and STOP buying it except for bare necessity.

Won't happen, but we do have the means.

I guess gas prices should come down once Iraq becomes stable. Wasn't that the purpose? Cheap Gas?

Actually, being a futures trader, I can tell you that oil hasn't been this high since gulf war 1. Also, it takes 6 months for oil sucked from the ground to end up at your local pump. So gas prices will being going up from here. And even higher if OPEC continues with their planed production cut in April.

I don't like paying $2 a gallon just like everyone else BUT one thing I don't understand is why gas prices are expected to stay at the same price forever...

When I was growing up a candy bar was 35 cents, now it is more like 75 cents

A pack of baseball cards cost 35 cents....average price now is about $3

I could go on and on....but u see the point...why would gas be any different?

On the supply side Iraq and Venezuela are way down on production due to governmental upheaval. On the demand side China is growing up economically and their appetite for oil is steadily increasing. The result is $37 per barrel oil for a while, or until something above changes. Some people see $40 soon. Cheap gas is at least 6 months away so keep driving your SUV's like you don't care about MPG, see what it gets you.

Sherman, you must be pretty young...What about 23 maybe? I am 35 and I can remember 10 cent cards...Are they really 3 bucks a pack? What kid can afford this? What is the regular pack of Topps Baseball Cards going for now?

Gas being expensive is a total myth "fueled" by the media and those not so financially savvy.

Home prices are screaming upwards. Many other things have gotten very expensive. But gas has roughly matched inflation the past 30 years or so.

I gues all those SUV drivers with bumper stickers saying "save the planet" are feeling the hurt.

Since when are commodities supposed to mirror inflation? What other commodities have gotten very expensive?

Technology and innovation should make commodities cheaper.

Commodities are subject to inflation. How much was a gallon of milk 50 years ago?

Plus, gas is not a limitless resource. It's finite, and as supply goes down cost goes up.

Oil being a finite resource is very debatable, and 100% not a conclusive fact.

commodities are more subject to manufacturers demands than they are to any sort of asset denoted inflation.

Milk cost me .89 this morning, same thing it cost 15yrs ago.

Oil is expensive,

exploration techniques are light years more advanced now than even ten yrs ago,

that doesn't include the increased efficiency at getting it out of the ground or to the consumer.

Plus our economy has been dormant to some degree which obviously leads to lower demand.

Call me a whacko.

If a Martian landed on our planet and invisibly watched us, he would be surprised at:

1. How cheap our gas is.
2. How expensive our beer, pepsi, cigarettes, water is.

I think he would say "Why are all these humans complaining about gas prices and spending so much on pepsi/water/booze/etc.?
