Rainbow- The only way Nomar Garciaparra could get a Gold Glove is if he stole it from someone or bought it on ebay. He is the most overated player in the majors in the last ten years. He can't move a foot to either side of him. His throws go all over the place. At the plate, he strands way to many runners and doesn't move men over to help his team. He's a very me-first guy and has the personality of a goat. He's a malingerer and also tried to scam the Red Sox by claiming he got hurt while playing when he actually hurt himself in the off season.

The minute the Red Sox traded his fragile ass and lousy clubhouse presence, they became a much better team. I'm amazed at how this stiff has fooled so many people for so long. The Red Sox had been shopping him around for quite some time. I was thrilled when they found someone dumb enough to take him.

I think he has a 320 lifetime Batting adverage, kinda hard to strand that many runners with that batting adverage.

Rainbow,

I don't know if you really follow the Red Sox or not, but I do.

1. Nomar is SELFISH. It is that simple. On numerous occasions, when they charged him with an error, he would seek out the official scorer and try to get the scoring changed.

2. He once blamed the groundcrew for leaving little pebbles between 2nd and 3rd base so that he would get bad hops on grounballs - and the errors would allow the Red Sox to pay him less on the next contract.

3. The Red Sox (like the Yankees) have a hitting philosophy on taking pitches. They take pitches so that they can get into the bullpen by the 6th or 7th inning. Taking pitches is a sacrifice because nobody wants to stat in an 0-1 hole. Every player EXCEPT Nomar would take pitches. After Nomar consistantly swung on the first pitch, the Red Sox then clarified it by saying that the "taking pitches" thing didn't apply to Nomar and he was allowed to swing on the first pitch.

4. If you read any book by a person who believes in Moneyball (like Billy Beane, or Theo or Bill James), you will see that they track a player's REACH. That is because a lot of players commit errors because they try to field a ball that most players couldn't even get to. Among AL shortstops, Nomar had one of the lowest reaches. That meant that he was either too slow or that if he felt he might make an error, he wouldn't even try to make the play.

5. One day last year against the Yankees - it was the game in which Jeter dove into the stands to make that play - Nomar refused to go and pinch hit.

The bottom line is that Nomar may have great stats, but he is not a player that you would want on your team.
