DANVILLE, Iowa, May 27 (UPI) -- Authorities in Iowa said the owners of a bar were ticketed for knowingly allowing criminal activity at the facility -- gambling on mouse races.

The Des Moines County Sheriff Department said Jan and Scott Beach, owners of the Bucktail Lodge in Danville, were ticketed for knowingly allowing criminal activity at the bar following a May 19 raid, WQAD-TV, Moline, Ill., reported Friday.

The department said the bar owners broke the law by allowing illegal gambling on mouse races in the establishment. Jan Beach was also charged with unlawful alcohol containers and conducting charge sales without a credit card. Investigators said further charges are pending against Scott Beach.

Scott and Jan Beach said they did not know they were breaking the law with the mouse races.

"Mouse racing is entertainment, entertainment for family, friends and its something to do on a Sunday afternoon," Scott Beach said. "We didn't know we were committing a criminal act, what is the act?"
