According to a report from ESPN, a bettor at a sports book in Las Vegas decided it was a good idea to risk $8,500 on tennis legend Novak Djokovic at -8,500 odds to get past Denis Istomin in the second round of the Australian Open. A Djokovic victory would have netted the gambler just $100. Istomin was a huge underdog versus the man who has won 12 grand slam singles titles and is considered one of the best in the game’s history. Istomin was ranked no. 117 in the world (Djokovic was no. 1), and ended up winning 7-6 (10-8) 5-7 2-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.

Reminds me of posters talking about betting patriots ml over Houston in the playoffs. Granted that game won with ease but if it lost, how many more games would you need to win to make it back.

seriously, $ 100 is just not worth it, you can't risk $ 8,500 for $ 100

WTF is $ 100 going to do for you? NOTHING, if you won you achieved NOTHING

Yeah if you know you have the best of it it's a great bet. Casino's do it all day everyday with slot machines and carnival table games

Twitter is reporting the Bettor's name as Albert Runmaker.

The name seems familiar to me but I can't place from where.

I saw a guy post up 3K once and during the NFL regular season turned into 30K+. I remember him calling up on SB day asking if we would allow him to risk it all on the Favorite moneyline. . I think it was Rams double digit (like -14) fav vs Brady in his first start or something. It was above the limit but the boss accepted. Next day he called up all sad. Said he was standing on the side of a bridge SERIOUSLY considering jumping to hi death. I NEVER bet more than I can stomach losing. No suicidal thoughts for me.

Yep, my personal rule is never to bet faves of -250+

Also, if you like a -8500 fave, fuckin do a parlay and pick some other 2 or 3 heavy faves....
