I've driven over 24 hours straight through several times(not recently), I recall when I was younger 3 of us rented a car and put over 5000 miles on it in 11 days, now this was when you didn't drive as fast as now, 60-65 tops, that means we averaged almost 500 miles per day or about 9-10 hours actually driving, we even slept in the car most of the days...needless to say we didn't exactly stop and smell the roses, I recall we spent maybe 20 min. at the grand canyon before taking off for vegas.

I recall one time driving straight through from amarillo to MN, I had to take a crap real, real bad somewhere in oklahoma, but had to wait for the next rest area, for some reason we never stopped at that rest area and maybe 14 hours later pulled into home and I thought "man, I never did take that crap".

Somewhere in Kansas to Costa Rica. A long time friend and myself. Technically 5 days, iirc, though we missed closing time at the Nica-CR border, an hour earlier we'd have made it in 4 days. Epic trip. Passed through all Central American countries except Belize and Panama. Woke up somewhere in the Yucatan on a foggy morning and felt like a different world and time. Bent the first rim somewhere between Mexico and Guatemala's 5000 speed bumps. Learned of the border scam of not stamping our passport on exiting, so they can charge you going into the next. Got lost on the coast somewhere in El Salvador, kept missing the unmarked exit and repeated the same mistake about 3 times loing hours while my buddy slept. Drove along a highway that was like a big tunnel in the jungle, trees on all sides and above. Gave a half drank coke to a Honduran soldier, cuz he asked and had a large weapon. Had to drive about 4 hours on a washed out dirt road in Honuras that was supposed to highway. Couldn't drive much faster than 25 or the car really started vibrating. Got pulled over by the cops somewhere, forget which country, cuz they wanted us to by raffle tickets. Got bad directions from a lot of people that wanted to help. Good people all over. Avoided a border search on the political question: did you vote or Bush? Correct answer: no.

New Jersey to California....countless times.....but haven't done it in over 25 years....

Once a couple of my buddies and I fled Ohio in the middle of the night to Northern California near the old Bay Meadows racetrack...of course we were on the run from the law that was about to bust a huge bookmaking operation back in the early 90's...
