01/08 701 HOUSTON +1. . .Marburry can not rome around freely and do what he pleases on offense anymore like he could in Phoenix, the only place he has played well. He must learn a system now, which he will struggle with like the other day against cleveland expect another 8 pts and 6 assists or so from him. the Knicks lose to lowly cleveland easily, and they are supposed to all of the sudden have it together to beat Houston, a team superior to the Knicks even when/ if the Knicks get it together? I dont think so. . .Houston is well rested since they were blown out last night in that Detroit revenge game and lets look at the fact Houston is 5-0 SU vs. the Atlantic, 10-1 SU after a non confrence game and 14-5 SU when the total is between 170 and 179.5 points. (they win the slug fests in other words, unless of course theyre playing the san an's and minny's) . the Rockets and their core of talented young players are also 6-2 when playing back to back days. i dont see them dropping a 3rd on the road to a knicks team who really isnt that good and now they have 3 new players trying to learn a system all of whom I think are a bit over rated. marburry is no longer the focal point of the offense he will continue to sputter just like his pre-phoenix days, and i dont think allen houston can singley handedly beat the rockets. ".....Marbury, who has averaged 23.9 points and 8.9 assists in seven appearances as an opponent at MSG, is expected to have dozens of friends and family members in attendance tonight and said his phone has not stopped ringing with people looking for tickets for tonight's contest.
"I'm going to try to block it out, but I know I'm going to see about 30 people that I know where I lived at, 30 people from where I go to eat, 50 people a place I might get my hair cut at - there's no hiding," said Marbury, who also stated he might cry when his name is introduced to the Garden faithful for the first time. ........"

way too many distractions IMO. emotion can also play against you. this is also a homecoming for jeff van gundy. look for him to coach the rockets to victory.

NBA System Play

This is the MTI 5* Play for tonight

5 Star NEW YORK -1' over Houston -- The Marbury trade mortgages the Knicks' future a bit but it helps them tremendously now. In Stephon's debut with the Knicks he was only 3-of-9 from the field for a total of eight points in Cleveland. However, he barely had his bags unpacked and was not yet familiar with his teammates. Here, he will have had a few practices with the team and will be ready to roll in his homecoming debut on national TV. With Hardaway and Marbury, along with Van Horn, Thomas and Houston, this is one of the best -- if not the best -- team in the East. The Knicks have a five game homestand upcoming that starts with three "rest vs no rest" games. New York's drive to the playoffs starts tonight. Now, let's look at some trends. The Knicks are 7-0 ATS their last seven when playing the first game of at least a three game homestand -- covering by an average of 8.2 points per game. In addition, New York is 7-0 ATS at home after a road loss in which they committed at least 25 fouls and 5-0 ATS after facing the Cavaliers. Also, the Knicks are on a losing streak and they have been fantastic at stopping such streaks going 50-26-1 ATS since 1/4/1996 when on a 2+ game SU and ATS losing streak -- including 4-0 ATS since 4/14/2002 when on a 3+ game SU and ATS losing streak -- covering by an average of 14.4 points per game. The Rockets played as expected in Detroit yesterday giving us a winner on our top side play. They have not rebounded well from such a performance. Houston is 0-4 ATS their last four (all THIS season) after a loss in which they had more turnovers than assists -- failing to cover by an average of 10.2 points per game and 1-7-1 ATS when they shot less than 40% from the field in their previous game. The loss in Detroit broke a three game winning streak and the Rockets are 0-4 ATS on the road after a loss that broke at least a three game winning streak. Houston is a soft team and will be overwhelmed by the Knicks energy as well as the energy of the crowd --- which should give Stephon Marbury a tremendous welcome when he is introduced. Can't see the Rockets coming close to the Knicks in this spot.
FORECAST: NEW YORK 96 Houston 83

also see a lot of awful cappers on houston at another site

Rob this is a wierd game. A lot of people bashing Yao today. I just have pictures of Marbury in that NYC tournament they replayed on MTV and I remember thinking how come he doesn't play like that in the NBA? I think this guy really has a lot of love for NY and might play big tonight.

I'm with you NY -1

Rob...............That was the fastest flip-flop I've ever seen. That's not usually a good sign. I hope you win, but I think I'll pass on this one.

Falco, you are a joke. What do you do sit by the tv all day and wait for a blow out score so you can bash the guys on the other side? Take your $5 bets and get lost. I will give you this the Knicks look like crap and unless Van Horn and Houston start bombing they're dead.

i had the right side i talked myself right out of it. look at that mti write up. its a joke. it only makes sense if youre drunk. it doesnt even say anything relative and its full of conjecture. my write up was on the $, im the man. i dont know what the hell i was thinking. obviously if a team is on a 3+ win streak of course they are due if they are historically a winning team and if they did 4 times in a season they must suck. im never drinking again until after the game. i started to think i was invincible since i hadnt had a bad day since like last friday. so and so in my thread yesterday was right. this was a big wake up call ill never be slapping down 2 dimes a game if i keep this crap up. what a joke. big wake up call for me
