I saw this game and right away it jumped out at me. FSU -8(or -8.5) against UVA? I'm all over FSU, anyone else?

I like UVA at home getting points over this overrated squad personally.

Florida St. may be motivated to do well this weekend after last week's mess. Highly ranked teams have been doing well the following week after losing to another ranked team.

FSU may (or may not) be overrated, but no one's more overrated than UVA. The only thing that concerns me are the injuries on the FSU OL. I expected this line to be in the 14-18 range.

don`t underrate the aftermath of the seminoles` crushing defeat.....they were a full td favorites....at home.....healthy.....had every advantage and ready to get the miami jinx off their ass in a big way.......and they laid an enormous egg on national t.v.....the score wasn`t indicactive of the domination miami displayed......

not sure how good virginia is.....and rix is a less talented matt mauck.....i think this will be a tough week for the noles.....they are the better team....i question their mental in this spot....and i have to say....coaching edge virginia......i wonder if bowden is hitting the same wall that joepa is hitting......

getting into the acc has seriously softened up the noles.....they have steadily deteriorated....

would like a solid out of conference opponent here.....not sure about another acc weak sister....

Ass muscle makes very good points. At one time FSU was a wild card travelling all over the country taking on everyone @ home. Since becoming a member of society so to speak, it seems their bravado has lessened. Rix is NOT the answer. There are some touts out that profess to be tuned into "biorhythms". I always laughed at that, BUT every wk especially in CFB there is a correlation of ups & downs based on a "hangover" or a "look ahead". May arguably be the single most important handicapping tool there is. FSU is going to be in the same spot Mn is and they are on the rd. Groh is 7-1 ATS as a HD.

Noles are seriously banged up on OL. That was one of their main problems against Miami.

You bring up some good points also. It's always tough to predict how a team will do after a big defeat. Some kick ass the next week while other suffer a letdown and lose. That's why I'm staying away from this one and the Minnesota game for the same reason.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize the extent of the injuries to the FSU OL before the game, but that was a major factor. The coaching staff pinned one interception on a lineman who was at less than 100% and immediately pulled him from the game. Two starting OL (and two more from the second string) should miss the UVa game. However....

UVA's DL is terrible. If you allow Clemson to consistently convert third- or fourth-and-short with power running plays, you've got a major problem. FSU's patchwork line should be able to hold its own here. As for the team's state of mind, five teams from the top ten lost Saturday, so one-loss teams like the Seminoles say they're optimistic. As for Rix, he could be a problem, but team leaders swear they are going to stay united behind him this year ... unlike the past two years. That's the wild card.

I am not a fan of UVA. I was thinking of going big on FSU. FSU lost to Miami, one of the best teams in the nation. UVA lost to Clemson, I don't think you can compare the two. Even though FSU is banged up, I think they are a far superior than a mediocre UVA team. I also thought this line would come out around 14 or 15, so when I saw the 8.5 I jumped on it. Still weighing my options though, thanks for all the feedback.

I love Florida State here. The quality level between Miami and Virginia is night and day, and FSU will feel like they are playing...well, back in the ACC!

Virginia's defense is suspect, and I think Rix responds. I also don't see Virginia scoring more than 17 points against a pissed off Florida State Defense.

Just for fun I checked to see how well Florida State does after the Miami game (win or lose) and in four of the past five years they absolutely punished the next opponent, including Virginia at Virginia two years ago 43-7.

Another huge factor in the Miami/FSU game last week was the weather conditions. I don't give any relevance to the FSU performance because it was played in a mudbath. I'm not saying FSU would have won the game had it not been raining, but they could not play they're game because of the conditions.

Florida State wins by two touchdowns or more.

how has FSU "slowly deteriorated" since joining the ACC?
they had two sub-par seasons (01 & 02)following three straight years of playing for the national title!

they joined the conference in '92 .... they played for two national titles in their first 6 years and 3 in their last five ....

if you're looking for reasons for FSU's recent "problems", look no further than:
-lost excellent assistant coaches in Chuck Amato and Mark Richt
-"replaced" Richt with Bobby's son ... and he's in WAY over his head
-recruiting classes have still featured a lot of talent, but they haven't been signing large enough classes and it's caught up to them over the last couple of years in terms of depth at certain positions

cracks me up how the resident reptiles around here are already writing the 'Noles off .... didn't hear two peeps out of them after losing to OLE MISS

back to the topic, I wouldn't play this game --- just have no idea how they're going to react and the OL is very banged up and we've got some YOUNG kids without much experience stepping in .....
but if you like this game and are worried about the number, don't be ... history shows that the 'Noles should be a good play

FSU is 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS last 3 times vs. UVA ... outscoring them by an average of 40-10
FSU is 10-1 SU and 8-3 ATS against UVA since joining the ACC

im with WC and VARookie for all the same reasons. Florida st probably wins(but doesnt cover) vs Miami if not for the TO. They gave up only 300yds on Miami's high powered Offense. Virginia wont score more then 17 without TO. They lost to Clemson who beat a one win wonder GA Tech, and struggled with Furman. Va's was all preseason Schaub for heisman hype. FSU aint turning it over that many times against Va DB's. And I agree mws, we do have to worry about there state of mind. Thats the only thing to stop them. Theyll come out slow and then beat them the rst of the game. As long as not floods like last week, this is no contest. DONT OVER- ANALYZE THIS ONE GUYS. Its few and far between we get a gift.

it also looks like UVA's top running back is hurt (Lundy) .... not sure what his status is, but I don't see how he's close to 100% for this game

bloodhounds-
How about superior talent at just about every position on both sides of the ball being a good reason that FSU should win this game. (I'm not saying don't take pts., though)

I would attribute Miami's victory last week simply to the coaching. In fact, Saturday reminded me of that thursday night game in the rain versus Louisville last year, where the play calling was just not adjusted to take advantage of the conditions. And it was my opinion that FSU should've been at an advantage in those cases.

The question for this week me lies in whether the coaches will have FSU mentally ready for this one after last week and furthermore will they be just outcoached again during the game.
BigDaddyNole pointed out the drop off from Richt to the young Bowden. And it's not one easily overlooked.

Anyway, does anyone have any comments on how they think UVA will respond to the OT loss last week.

FSU just hasn't blown out teams on the road like they did 2/3 years ago. I doubt FSU will lose this game, but I'd love to jump on those points if someone can convince me UVA is ready to put up a fight. Then again who wouldn't be pumped to have a shot at FSU? This game would put them in front in the ACC right?
