I am ashamed to even post this, but i am outraged by what a local paper used as their Front page story for today's paper... Gruesome! COLD.

Some Colombian got shot 3 times point blank, and they printed his picture on the front page.

I just don't think it is right. What do you think?

Brief Translation of what happened...

It was around 11:30pm at night when Barrera was driving in direction west to east in his black, Mitsubishi, sports vehicle, license plate 403558, along the highway just in front of Hipermas in Curridabat. According to witnesses, a black gloved hand holding a gun reached out from within a Honda Civic, and shot him point blank, Colombian Style....

I can imagine his friends and loved ones would find it a tad insensitive.

I'm going to guess that his killers are roaming free with no consequenses and not a lot of investigation. Anyways, I can't wait to get back down there to CR!

There's no interesting news in Costa Rica( just murders and mugs and car crashes)...that's why they need to go out of their way and journalist ethics to sell that crappy paper... I was laughing my ass last week reading an article about.......a donkey that was raped!!!

There was ANOTHER drive by shooting last night in Curridabat, the same place where the photo above was taken. This time a 33 year old woman was the victim. Nice place down there.

That would be a good start. I can't believe how much CR has changed for the worse in the last three years. It's astonishing.

On a brighter note... the judicial authorities have recently apprehended a suspect for the homicide of that female reporter mentioned by the poster "American"...

and...

Catholic Priest, Minor de Jesus Calvo, and a businessman were BOTH ARRESTED this morning as suspects for the murder of Parmenio Medina.*

I think this is a very positive sign that things are improving down here. The judicial authorities are making great strides at bringing criminals to justice, and that is very good.

Tico

*Parmenio was a colombian reporter that had lived in Costa Rica for many years, and who reported that Catholic Priest Minor de Jesus was seen in a car with a male teenager at 3 in the morning at La Sabana Park. Medina also reported cases of corruption involving the Radio Catholic Station, Radio Maria, and apparently had a lot more info on the catholic priest.

WTF. I blame the government for not fining them or enacting some type of standards as well.

Oh wait a minute this just in.
The video, obtained by ABCNEWS, shows grainy images of three Iraqis on the ground handling a long cylindrical object that the helicopter pilots believe is a weapon.
The pilots, from the Army's 4th Infantry Division, ask their commanders for permission to engage, then take the three men out one by one, using the Apache's devastating 30 mm cannons.
link to story here. I just saw the video. nice. I'm glad the kids are in bed. WTF.

They do have sensorship laws in CR that prevent people from seeing movies like "Chainsaw Massacre" and "House of 1000 Corpses". But then they allow photos like that on the front page of newspapers. Maybe if the violence is "Made in Costa Rica", then it's allowable.
