YTD 1-1 -0.1 units
Earlier this week my TCU game came in and tonight I am on Tulane +4.5 at home over St. Johns for 2 units.
The Vegas line opened at St. Johns -4 and currently stands at -4.5
St. John's (2-5 SU) (3-3 ATS) and (0-3) in away games, opened the season with lots of hope and promise with blowout wins over Bethune-Cookman and Binghamton and showed signs of progress in six-point losses against Minnesota and VCU and now have reverted back to its play of a disastrous 2015-26 campaign when it lost 22 of its final 23 games. The Red Storm, who suffered their fifth straight loss last time out to Delaware State at home (79-72), Delaware State led 38-34 at the end of the first half and led and controlled the entire game. I watched most of the game so in capping this game I know the things that I saw which gave me confidence in making this wager.
St. John's coach Chris Mullin told reporters after losing to a Delaware State team which hadn't beaten a Division I team since 2014. “Our defense was horrible, one-on-one and as a team,” “I thought we lost trust in each other.”
St Johns guard Federico Mussini admitted to reporters that St. John’s looked past Delaware State after waging competitive battles against Michigan State and VCU a week ago.
Here is a very interesting fact & Stat.
St. Johns didn't go to the free-throw line in the second half which translates to me as St. Johns guards not liking to take it to the hoop or drive the lane to induce contact and go to the foul line and that they liked settling for jump shots. I watched the entire game against deleware State and St. Johns constantly settled for wild 3-point attempts, going 12-for-37 from beyond the arc.
St. Johns Freshmen Marcus LoVett (18.9 points per game) and Shamorie Ponds (15.3) continue to lead the Red Storm in scoring but the promising backcourt duo has thus far failed to ignite a selfish offense which ranks tied for 246th in the nation in assists at 12.7 St. The two St. John freshman have combined for more than 60 percent of the team's scoring which is not a good thing for a struggling team.
Note* this points out to me that the experienced upper classmen are not doing their jobs and contributing leadership and stability to the program thus far. As a team, St. Johns is among the youngest teams in the nation and has only one player with more than two years of Division I experience.
Tulane (1-6 SU) (2-3 ATS) and (1-3 at home) have also lost five straight - by an average of 12.4 points. Tulane is coached by another former NBA guard-turned coach in Mike Dunleavy, who is also trying to resurrect a program that finished last in its conference last season.
Tulane has played only once at home and was led by Kain Harris who had a career-high 19 points in a dominating 93-76 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 14. Cameron Reynolds leads three Green Wave players in double-figure scoring at 16.4 points per game but Tulane hasn't played much defense, allowing an average of 80.4 points per game (tied for 306th nationally). Tulane also struggles on the backboards getting outrebounded by seven boards per game and dropped its most recent game to rival New Orleans 74-59 despite 18 points from Harris and 17 from senior guard Malik Morgan.
Here’s what I like:
Tulane has played a brutal schedule for so far in losing to North Carolina 95-75 on a neutral court, losing to Oklahoma 89-70 on a neutral court, losing to Arizona State 80-71 on aeutral court and losing to Missouri 67-63 on a neutral court and going to Georgetown and losing 82-68 . So this translates to me as Tulane knowing that they have already played some good strong competition and to them now they are stepping down in class with a team they feel and know they can truly and honestly beat and catching a reeling, struggling St. Johns team on team their own floor with a chance to start the month of December off successfully and get their season going in the right direction.
Tulane has some reasons to think and feel that they can be successful, they lead the American Athletic Conference in three-pointers made per game (8.6) and is shooting at the fourth-highest clip (.375) in the league. The Green Wave's 60 conversions from beyond the arc is also tops in the American. Tulane redshirt junior Cameron Reynolds is tied for first in the conference in threes made (21) and second in threes per game (3.0) with East Carolina's Caleb White. I like this matchup at this exact time and venue. As we all know anything can and does happen in sports betting but I like my chances here.
