At the Gate - Friday
By Mike Dempsey

The connections of Game On Dude announced on Thursday that the gelding’s career is over, retired having won 16 of 24 career starts with earnings of $6,498,893.

His last start was a fourth in the Pacific Classic (G1), which was his third loss in a row. His lone win this year was in the Santa Anita Handicap (G1), his third win in that race.

"He ran a great race in the Pacific Classic, but it's gotten to the point where there is always going to be some horse who is going to be sacrificed by running with him and forcing him into ridiculous fractions, as was the case at Del Mar," Baffert told Bloodhorse. "It's starting to wear on him a little bit to the point where it's not fun for him anymore. We always felt if he couldn't compete at the grade I level and wasn't enjoying what he was doing, it would be time to retire him.”

The gelding was the beaten favorite in the last two runnings of the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), likely costing him Horse of the Year honors. He checked in ninth last year and seventh in 2012.

He was listed at 10-1 and fifth choice in early Breeders’ Cup Classic wagering. Shared Belief is the current betting favorite at 2-1 followed by California Chrome at 4-1. The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner will be in action on Saturday as the favorite in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G2). The outing wil be his first since his fourth in the Belmont Stakes (G1).

With Palace Malice and Game On Dude now out of the Classic, it is looking as if the three-year-old division could dominate.

Here is a look at the top 10 in future odds:

Shared Belief 2/1*
California Chrome 4/1*
Will Take Charge 5/1
Tonalist 10/1*
Bayern 13/1*
Wicked Strong 13/1*
Lea 18/1
Australia 20/1
Clubhouse Ride 20/1
Itsmyluckyday 20/1

Here is today’s opening race from Belmont Park to get the day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Clm $20,000 (1:05 ET)
2 Dr Disco 2-1
1 Star of New York 5-1
4 Indy Tune 3-1
5 Say Mr. Sandman 4-1

Analysis: Dr Disco drops back in with state breds after dueling for the early lead and weakening to finish fourth last out against open $25,000 foes in his first go off the claim by the Contessa barn. Two back at this level he pressed the early pace and finished gamely for the runner up spot, sandwiched between a pair of next out winners. He owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers and will be tough in this spot.

Star of New York stalked the early pace and made a mild late rally to finish third, beaten two lengths for the top spot. The gelding was fourth two back in the key race our top pick also exits. He is usually in the mix but does not win often and is just 1 for 19 over the Belmont Park main track with 11 in the money finishes. His last win came at the Big A against open $12,500 foes. His last two speed figs are good enough to be in the mix.

Wagering
WIN: #2 to win at 8-5 or better.
EX: 1,2 / 1,2,4,5
TRI: 1,2 / 1,2,4,5 / 1,2,4,5,7

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 8 OClm $62,500N2X (4:45 ET)
1 Barrel of Love 3-1
6 Brickyard Kitten 4-1
4 Middleburg 7-2
5 Kilroy 6-1

Analysis: Barrel of Love stalked the early pace and finished evenly in a fourth place finish in the state bred West Point. The top three all came back to run in the state bred Ashley T. Cole with runner up Lubash winning. The gelding ran well two and three back in on-conditioned optional claimers, three back earning a near career top over the turf here. He has landed in the money in 11 of his 17 career starts on the lawn here.

Brickyard Kitten tracked the early pace and finished gamely in a runner up finish last out at this level at the Spa over ground labeled as good. The gelding looks headed in the right direction as he makes his third start since landing with the Tony D. barn. He does not need to move forward much off his last outing to be right in the mix in this spot.

Wagering
WIN: #1 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 1,6 / 1,4,5,6
TRI: 1,6 / 1,4,5,6 / 1,4,5,6,7

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Belmont Park
R2: #8 Q Two 8-1
R3: #2 Unbelievable Dream 15-1
R4: #8 Blue Collar Cat 10-1
R5: #3 Dangerous Lad 12-1
R6: #12 Jacapo 10-1
R7: #5 Isn’tlovejustgrand 8-1
R9: #1 Trensita 10-1

Good luck today!

DRF HARNESS

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: THINKOFAGAMEPLAN (3rd)

Spot Play: TWIN B HONOUR (10th)

Race 1

(10) SECOND SISTER was a winner last week in this class and has a terrific record all season. (1) WING FLASH gets the rail and is fresh off an open-length score. (4) TYMAL ILLBTHERE draws well this week and has the most earnings in this field. She's a logical option for the triactor.

Race 2

(1) BISTROBISTRO TAJ romped last week for Zeron and has the most confidence coming into this dash. (2) SUMMERS JEWEL hasn't missed the board in seven career starts and can't be overlooked. (10) STAY IN TOUCH will need to overcome post 10, but he comes from the McIntosh barn and has yet to miss the board this season.

Race 3

(6) THINKOFAGAMEPLAN remains undefeated in this Grassroots program this season and is the horse to beat. (5) SHIPPEN OUT appears to be a late bloomer as he's been at his best in the past couple of weeks. (9) ACE OF CLUBS has hit the board in seven of eight starts this season despite no wins. He comes from the McNair barn and is due for a big effort.

Race 4

(1) MATTIE TERROR GIRL drops out of the Milton Stakes and into a much easier field. She's the mare to beat based on the class relief. (8) SOMEWHEREINHEAVEN closed very well last week, drops in class slightly and has been rounding into form. (3) REQUEST FOR PAROLE comes from the Johnson barn, draws inside and should offer a nice price. She's been inconsistent this season, but has the speed and back class.

Race 5

(4) MOONWARDS HANOVER has won three straight for trainer Darling and shows excellent gate-speed. He's been on form as of late and gets MacDonell in the bike. (8) TWIN B SCANDAL comes from the Hudon barn and has hit the board in each of his last two and three of his last four. (10) BIG MOMENT comes from the McIntosh barn and has missed the board once from eight starts this season. He's a logical play for the triactor.

Race 6

(2) EL DIABLO HALL has six wins from eight starts this season, draws inside and looks like the horse to beat. (10) KADABRASNEWRECRUIT has two wins from three career starts, comes from Hall of Famer McIntosh's barn and was an open length winner in his latest. (5) CALL ME RICHARD has won two straight, draws well and has excellent gate-speed.

Race 7

(4) MS MAC N CHEESE has won five of seven starts this season, comes from the Moreau barn and romped in her latest. (2) SOUTHWIND LUNA draws inside, is versatile and continues to be a top threat in this Grassroots program. (8) MARACHERE has turned for the better since arriving in the Auciello barn a few starts back. He's fresh off a win and may offer a fair price once again.

Race 8

(4) PLAY IT AGAIN SAM was a game second in the Simcoe last week and faces an easier group. (7) PRINCE CLYDE is fresh off a 1:49 3/5 score, has a good record this season and is an obvious candidate. (5) K G DRAGONATOR might offer a fair price in this class. It's his second start back and continues to drop time and finish well.

Race 9

(9) SNAPSHOT SPRINGS has won three straight for trainer Reid and couldn't be coming into this contest any better. (3) PILGRIMS JOY made a miscue last week, but is certainly capable of rebounding. She has been consistent all season and gets MacDonald back in the bike. (10) PARKHILL LANCELOT comes from the Bax barn, is fresh off a win and very capable of overcoming the outside.

Race 10

(2) TWIN B HONOUR has been racing very consistently as of late, draws inside and comes from the Puddy barn. (8) LITTLE MISS ARTIST has been knocking on the door for the past number of weeks and can't be counted out. She has the speed and comes from a good barn. (1) OK HELLELUJAH draws the rail, comes from the Steacy barn and has hit the board in each of her last two.

Race 11

(3) AMERICAN IN PARIS has scored back-to-back wins at this level and will gain a lot of attention in here. (1) SKIPPIN BY romped last week and has been a different horse since arriving in the Johnson barn. (9) NAT A VIRGIN comes from the Jones stable, has a good record this season and may offer a fair price. She faces older foes, but has the speed and connections in her corner.

Race 12

(8) MARLEE B drops in class, draws better and has a terrific late kick. She has the speed and connections in her corner. (2) ITS NO SECRET draws inside, gets Jamieson in the bike and drops in class. (1) SEASIDE RORY has hit the board in each of her last four starts. She hasn't won yet this season, but is a good option for the triactor.

DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 268 - 1045 / $1,736.40 BEST BETS: 21 - 87 / $95.80

Best Bet: ELIN (2nd)

Spot Play: SET ME UP (6th)

Race 1

(2) DROVER Gelding flashed some speed in last try; could take this at his best. (7) SEA VENTURE Good to see Brennan keeps the faith; main danger. (1) WHO DAT LOVE should fare well from the fence.

Race 2

(3) ELIN Even finish in her recent trip. Trotting miss fits well in here and with a perfect trip she can take top honors. (4) IN NOMINE PATRI is 0 for 6 but is knocking at the door; maybe. (5) BOADICEA HANOVER will be closing in the final strides.

Race 3

(7) AARONS MATTJESTY This might be a perfect spot for this pacing gelding to make tonight a winning one. (1) AMASA AL moves to the fence and that might help his cause. (3) TIMES STOOD STILL gets post relief; watch out.

Race 4

(5) UPFRONT ELLIJAY ED Five seconds in a row. Gelding is 1 for his last 22 trips to the post this year and maybe he is ready to get it done. (3) CUTTY SHARK moves to the 3-hole and will surely be the one to fear. (2) PICTONIAN PRIDE has put in two nice efforts; not out of this.

Race 5

(1) ANDIE SOPHIA Trotting miss has hit the board in her last six starts. She is very capable of getting the job done from her rail slot. (4) BLACKTUXWHITESOCKS gets a cozy post and Brennan is back aboard; threat. (2) LOOKING HANOVER can have a say in the outcome.

Race 6

(4) SET ME UP has tactical speed and this gal could boss these with Brennan on the return call. (5) SCANDALOUS HANOVER Pennsylvania invader was quite sharp in her last two tries; main danger. (7) ROYAL CEE CEE N has wheeled off three straight victories, so the outside slot should not hurt this mare based on her last one.

Race 7

(3) PUTNAMS ATTACK flashed good speed in his last try. Gelding can top these pacers with a fine-timed drive from Buter. (1) ABOMINABLE SNOWPAN gets the rail slot to work with and should contend with this group. (2) WAYWARD SON has good speed; don't overlook.

Race 8

(8) LORENZO DREAM was sent down the road for all the glory in his last start. He now moves up in class but based on his last trip, gelding can score again. (6) NF HAPPENSTANCE has hit the board in her last five tries and Sears stays aboard; big threat. (4) ROSSINI could land a share of the purse.

Race 9

(2) RUDE BOY goes for a new barn and this gelding is clearly better than his latest; worth a closer look. (1) REPORT FOR DUTY N tired in the stretch run and had to settle for the show spot; main danger from the fence. (5) BROOKSTONE closed strongly for win honors last week.

Race 10

(4) CAROLS DESIRE did not have anything last time around but this pacing miss has tactical speed. So if she gets a better trip, it's light's out for the rest. (1) SIR JILLIAN Z TAM gets post relief and that might be what she needs to contend with these. (2) HANDSOFFMYCOOKIE Millionaire miss can't be counted out.

Race 11

(2) FORT VALLEY AS Gelding was facing much better stock and put in two nice efforts. Now he moves down the ladder and Bartlett had other options and stays with him; threat at his best. (1) BASTILLE rallied strongly and just missed the win slot last time out; main danger. (4) ALTERNAT THURSDAYS got the job done against lesser company last out down the road.

Race 12

(1) SEAFOOD ANNIE moves back to the fence and this gal may prove to fit well in this event. Might top this group with Sears at the helm. (3) UF DRAGONS QUEEN should do much better from the 3-hole and Brennan keeps the faith. (2) TIAMO has speed and the inside slot can help her contend in here.

KEY STAT: Hertha have won one of their last 15 Bundesliga matches

EXPERT VERDICT: These sides have only two points between them but Freiburg look the more likely to improve as the season goes on. Freiburg played well in the recent 0-0 draw with Gladbach and were handed a tough task at Dortmund last week, while Hertha’s home defeat to Mainz should send alarm bells ringing in Berlin.

RECOMMENDATION: Freiburg

KEY STAT: St Mirren have lost on just one of their last ten visits to Partick

EXPERT VERDICT: Although St Mirren have failed to score in their first four league matches, Partick are difficult to trust on their own patch. Thistle surprisingly beat Inverness at home last week but only won twice at Firhill last season and the Buddies can hold firm for a point.

KEY STAT: Elche have kept eight clean sheets in their last ten home games

EXPERT VERDICT: Elche were solid at home last season - only Atletico Madrid had a better defensive record on their own patch - so it is difficult to see Eibar breaching them in this encounter. A low-scoring affair looks likely, and Elche are fancied to build on last week’s victory over Rayo Vallecano.

RECOMMENDATION: Elche 1-0

KEY STAT: Watford have scored 11 goals in their first three home games in the Championship

EXPERT VERDICT: Two of the Championship’s most entertaining teams meet and Watford can underline their promotion credentials with a win. The Hornets are strong at home and Bournemouth’s defensive frailties were exposed at Blackburn, where they went 3-0 down in 25 minutes.

KEY STAT: QPR lost just two home league games last season

EXPERT VERDICT: QPR, still smarting from their 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Manchester United, will be desperate to avoid defeat against their former gaffer Mark Hughes. While Stoke beat Man City at the Etihad in August, they won just three league games on the road last season, averaging under a goal a game.

KEY STAT: Newcastle have won just five times since New Year’s Day

EXPERT VERDICT: The pressure continues to grow on Alan Pardew after Newcastle’s humiliating 4-0 defeat at Southampton but a visit from Hull may do little to appease the Toon Army’s discontent. Hull were victorious on their last visit to Tyneside and with an array of new firepower in their ranks may repeat the trick.

QUARTER HORSE 350Y, FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON THREE RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 120 LBS.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 6 BB SECRETS JET BLACK 5/1

# 4 GO JAKES DYNASTY 2/1

# 2 OTTO B GOOD 7/5

I think BB SECRETS JET BLACK is a very good choice. Is a solid contender based on figures put up lately under today's conditions. Has solid early lick and will most likely fare soundly against this field. Looks to have a very good class edge based on the most recent company kept. GO JAKES DYNASTY - Ran a solid last race. Overall the speed figs of this pony look decent in this outing. OTTO B GOOD - Always good to invest in a handler with this kind of decent win percentage - 29 percent - at this distance & surface. Posted a sound speed figure in the last race. Can run another good one in this contest.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 5 PICTUREPERFECTCAT 5/1

# 2 ALL ABOUT BROWNIE 8/1

# 9 VALID A. J. 7/2

PICTUREPERFECTCAT looks to be a very strong contender. This racer could shock this field at a big price. Seems to have a quite good class edge based on the latest company kept. Looks very good for the conditions of this affair today, showing solid figures in dirt sprint races lately. ALL ABOUT BROWNIE - Could best this field here, showing respectable figs of late. Has to be given consideration - I like the figs from the last contest. VALID A. J. - Has solid front-end speed and will most likely fare quite well against this field. With a respectable 70 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will definitely be a factor in this race.

#6 FLYING ARGUMENT (ML=4/1)
#5 POLLINATOR (ML=7/2)

FLYING ARGUMENT - I like that last effort on September 5th at Belterra Park where he ended up third. Like the way this gelding's finish positions keep getting better. That's a sure sign of improving form. This gelding is clearly on the improve with speed ratings of 38, 43, 58 last 3 out. This gelding's last speed rating is strong enough to win here, I'll wager on him right back this time around. POLLINATOR - This gelding is in excellent form right now. Ran third last out and comes back quickly.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 TIZ THE GOSPEL (ML=5/2), #7 SKIPTOTHELANE (ML=6/1), #4 DILLON (ML=8/1),

TIZ THE GOSPEL - Aug 14th is the last time we've seen this gelding around. Have to be a little bit leery. SKIPTOTHELANE - You always believe this horse has a shot to cross the finish line in first, but he just misses regularly. Didn't land in the top three on August 24th at Belterra Park. Followed it up with another lackluster performance. DILLON - That was just not a very good exhibition in the last clash.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

#6 FLYING ARGUMENT is the play if we get odds of 7/5 or better

Louisiana Downs - Race #3 - Post: 3:43pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $5,000 Class Rating: 50

#1 TUNNELFORMONEY (ML=9/2)

TUNNELFORMONEY - This horse broke from the outside at Louisiana Downs last time out, racing 1 mile, but is getting a low post in this race, which should help her chances today. Trying to win for the 1st time moving from a race on the turf to the main track. I think Hukill will have her fit for today's race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 HARBORAGE'S DIXIE (ML=3/1), #10 INDEPENDANT GIRL (ML=7/2), #5 OURBESTDAYEVER (ML=4/1),

HARBORAGE'S DIXIE - The speed figure in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's event. Mark this animal as a vulnerable contender. INDEPENDANT GIRL - I can't play this habitual non-winner. Gets the task done from time to time. OURBESTDAYEVER - Disappointing speed figure last race out at Louisiana Downs at 1 mile 70 yards. Don't believe this steed will improve too much in today's race.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Bet on #1 TUNNELFORMONEY to win if we can get at least 1/1 odds

RACE #1 - BELMONT PARK - 1:05 PM EASTERN POST

6½ FURLONGS DIRT THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD $20,000.00 CLAIMING $40,000.00 PURSE

#2 DR. DISCO
#1 STAR OF NEW YORK
#4 INDY TUNE
#5 SAY MR. SANDMAN

#2 DR. DISCO qualifies as a TrackMaster PLUS "PowerPony," is the overall speed leader in this claiming field sprinting at, or about, today's distance of 6½ furlongs on the dirt, and has produced "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in each of his last five outings, hitting the board in a pair. Jockey Luis Saez and Trainer Gary Contessa send him to the post of the "Friday Opener" ... they've hit the board with nearly half of more than 80 entries saddled as a team to date, producing a +32% return on investment in the process. #1 STAR OF NEW YORK, a 5-1 shot, is the pace profile leader in this field, and has hit the board in three of his last five starts overall, including a "POWER RUN SHOW" finish facing slightly better company (+1) in his last "adventure."
