KEY STAT: PSG have lost just one of their last 11 away league matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Paris St-Germain have failed to win their opening game in the last three seasons but shouldn't have many problems winning at Reims, who were mid-table last season. Serge Aurier and David Luiz are the only major signings for PSG, who look a settled unit and deserve their status as red-hot title favourites.

RECOMMENDATION: PSG to win 2-0

DRF HARNESS:

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: DANA DEAREST (12th)

Spot Play: ONTHEROAD DE VIE (8th)

Race 1

(4) FREDDIE comes from the Johnson barn and was a winner last week in this class. (6) HILARIOUS HARRY moves into the Austin barn, is versatile and raced very strong two back. (7) WINNING WIZARD comes out of the Nifty Norman barn and is capable of a rebound effort.

Race 2

(4) ARIENNE was a winner last week by open lengths in the debut for new trainer Auciello. She looks like the filly to beat. (2) MYSTERY GAME draws inside, qualified very sharply in her latest and appears ready for her career debut. (6) MOONLIT DANCE paced home in :27 in her career debut to finish third. She can only improve off that effort.

Race 3

(1) NUMBERS GAME qualified well for Baillargeon, has excellent gate-speed and poses as a top threat. (2) SNAPSHOT SPRINGS was a game second last week, comes from a top barn and moves onto this circuit. (3) KADABRASNEWRECRUIT comes from the McIntosh barn, won his qualifier by open lengths and appears ready for his first career start.

Race 4

(5) MIA SEELSTER is fresh off a win and is capable of the class jump. Keyes' barn has been very good this season and this mare offers some back class. (2) WILDCAT HANNA draws inside, was a winner last week and enjoys being put into the race. (9) EAT ME UP has all kinds of back class to offer and drops into this level.

Race 5

(4) CAULFIELD finished third last start at this level in his career debut and is capable of a better effort. He comes from the Beaver barn, draws well and gets Christoforou in the bike. (3) P L INTIMIDATOR qualified very well on both occasions and appears to have more to offer. (5) PRIDECREST has won back-to-back contests at this level and may be overbet.

Race 6

(1) DOCS HOSS is hard to overlook in this class with the rail. He's got a terrific record to date and always a prime threat in here. (2) EMERALD LEXUS was a sharp winner last start in this class for new trainer Stewart. (9) HOPETOBEFIRST comes from the Moreau barn and has hit the board in five of his last six starts.

Race 7

(2) GRANDPRIX SEELSTER draws well and closed very well in his career debut from ninth-to-first. He looks like the colt to beat. (8) ANGELS KID comes from the McNair barn and was a winner last outing. (10) EL DIABLO HALL is a perfect five-for-five in his career and moves onto this circuit.

Race 8

(2) ONTHEROAD DE VIE has been knocking on the door in each of his last two and is due for a winning effort with an inside post. (1) PARKHILL LANCELOT gets the rail, comes from the Bax barn and has been a game second in each of his last two starts. (6) PARTY OAN THE RIVER qualified sharply in his latest with a :28 final quarter. He's capable of a big effort in here.

Race 9

(5) MARLEE B is a much better mare than she's been showing and just missed last week. (7) HUSTLEONHOME has been terrific in recent outings and poses as a major threat once again this week. (6) PRAIRIE ILLUSION has been a beaten favourite in each of her last three starts in this class. She's a good option for the triactor with her speed and back class.

Race 10

(1) PILGRIMS JOY was a winner last week in this class, gets the rail and continues to improve with each start. (4) STORMONT WIZARD draws well, has excellent gate-speed and likely will offer a low price. (8) WILLIAM STAR will debut for Baillargeon, which is a great angle to play. He qualified well, shows gate-speed and may offer a price.

Race 11

(3) BAREFOOT BEAUTY hasn't won yet this season, but has been facing tougher competition and should appreciate the class relief. She comes from the McNair barn, shows 1:51 speed and should offer a low price. (2) PALM BEACH HANOVER draws inside, comes from the Menary barn and hasn't missed the board in each of her last three. (7) REGIL MEG has hit the board in two of his last three and comes from the Auciello barn. She should offer a fair price and is a good option for the triactor.

Race 12

(8) DANA DEAREST was loaded with pace last week, but got interfered with and made a break in stride. She comes from the Coleman barn, has won half of her 10 starts this season and looks like the filly to beat. (9) BET YA has been racing very consistently this season and just missed last week. (6) WANNA ROCK N ROLL was a game second last week and draws well. She comes from the Robinson barn, gets Waples in the bike and remains at this class.

KEY STAT: Blackburn have won five of their last seven league games

EXPERT VERDICT: Cardiff will be eager to make their stay in the Championship a brief one after last term’s relegation, but a trip to Ewood Park looks a tough opening assignment. Blackburn were just two points away from the final playoff berth after a 12-match unbeaten run and Jordan Rhodes' quality in front of goal could prove the difference.

RECOMMENDATION: Blackburn

KEY STAT: Bristol City drew 19 times in League One last term

EXPERT VERDICT: Sheffield United won both games against Bristol City last season but this looks likely to be a tighter affair between two of League One's fancied teams. Both sides have recruited heavily in a bid to secure a return to the second tier and with early season nerves playing their part, it may end up all-square.

(6) MONKEY ON MY WHEEL With a good trip, she could boss these at her best. (5) SUMMERTIME LEA has done quite well in her last four trips to the post. (7) ROBIN CRUISER Clearly not out of this based on her sharp form.

Race 7

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in eight of Rovers’ last nine season openers

EXPERT VERDICT: Grimsby have won just two of their last 12 opening matches, but last season’s playoff semi-finalists have had an excellent summer under Paul Hurst. Relegated Rovers are favourites to bounce straight back under Darrell Clarke but they won’t find the division in general and Grimsby in particular easy to sweep aside.

KEY STAT: In Fulham’s last *campaign in the second tier, they won 14 away games

EXPERT VERDICT: Fulham’s last nine matches saw them lose only to Man City, Everton, Tottenham and Stoke, and Felix Magath’s side are bolstered by the arrival of Ross McCormack, who bagged 28 goals in the Championship last season. Fulham are known as a poor away side but they can win at Portman Road.

KEY STAT: Bastia are unbeaten in their last five home fixtures

EXPERT VERDICT: Claude Makelele can make the perfect start to his managerial career by leading Bastia to a home victory over Marseille. Bastia won ten of their 19 home league games last season and should pose a stern test for Marseille, who are still coming to terms with the sale of key player Mathieu Valbuena to Dynamo Moscow.

At the Gate - Friday
By Mike Dempsey

We have a good card at Saratoga for Friday, and while I had a tough time coming up with some longshots in the middle races, it looks as if we can beat just about every favorite on the 10-race card. None of the morning line favorites are my top picks.

That bodes well for the early Pick 5, which I have been absolutely snake bitten the last four or five days. Seems like every day I land on four of the five winners and miss out on a hefty payoff.

I have three live longshots in the early five-race sequence and I think we can beat several of the likely favorites, which should set up for a good score.

Friday’s stakes race is the $200,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame (G2), which drew seven with the field likely to be reduced to six as Matterhorn is a main-track-only runner and the weather looks good.

Bobby’s Kitten is the 7-5 morning line favorite and is cutting back in distance off an eighth place finish in the Belmont Derby (G2) which was at 1 ¼ miles. The colt was in the mix and just ran out of gas, with jockey Javier Castellano not pushing the colt late.

The Chad Brown trainee won the Penn Mile two back, bouncing back from another poor showing three back where he faded to finish a well-beaten 12th in the Toyota Blue Grass (G1) on polytrack at Keeneland. The colt figures to bounce back, and Brown is heating up, but at a short price, I am going to try to look for better value for the top spot.

Long On Value is listed at 5-1 on the morning line and offers some value, as does Give No Quarter (3-1) who is making his stakes debut after an impressive victory against first level allowance foes in his last outing at Belmont Park off a 7 ½ month layoff.

Here is today’s opening race from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start:

SAR Race 1 Clm $20,000 (1:00 ET)
2 Precious Franca 6-1
1 Pura Vida Zen 3-1
7 Heir to Dare 8-5
6 Bobby Jo 4-1

Analysis: Precious Franca stalked the early pace from the inside and then stalked briefly in the stretch as if she did not want to shoot through on the rail, eventually made her way through but was no match for the winner late in a runner up finish. The winner was Coast of Sangria, who came back to beat $25,000 claimers in her next start on July 30. Our top pick also ran into a repeat winner two and four back. Hoping the ice cold bug Rice takes her to the outside for the stretch drive today and we should catch a fair price on this filly.

Pura Vida Zen stalked the early pace and made a good late run to finish second behind the morning line fav in here for a $16,000 tag. She was claimed out of the race by the Contessa barn that is 8% winners first off the claim. The mare has done much of her best work at Finger Lakes but she does like to win, an 11-time winner. She comes in here sharp and looks capable of being in the mix here despite the slight class hike.

Wagering
WIN: #2 to win at 4-1 or better.
EX: 1,2 / 1,2,6,7
TRI: 1,2 / 1,2,6,7 / 1,2,4,6,7

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:

SAR Race 8 Alw $75,000N1X (4:42 ET)
4 In Her Day 3-1
3 A P Johnson 5-2
5 Baby B 4-1
8 Fantastic Eyes 6-1

Analysis: In Her Day returns off a four month break here for the Weaver barn that takes over from Rice. The filly broke her maiden on the inner track at the Big A. The filly sports a couple of quick works and looks ready to fire off the bench for a barn that is 17% winners (with a +ROI) with runners coming back off a 61-180 day layoff. She should take to turf as she is out of a Hennessy mare that has dropped two other winners and they have both won on turf including stakes winner Mother Russia ($528,966).

A P Johnson is coming back off even a longer layoff, last seen in October running fifth in the state bred Island Sun on turf going a mile in her first start against winners. She broke her maiden over the Spa turf here last summer at today's distance. The Rice barn is 17% winners with runners coming back off a =180 day layoff although the work tag is on the light side.

Wagering
WIN: #4 to win at 2-1 or better.
EX: 3,4 / 3,4,5,8
TRI: 3,4 / 3,4,5,8 / 1,3,4,5,8

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Saratoga
R3: #5 Politicallycorrect 10-1
R4: #9 Birkenhead 12-1
R5: #7 Joshuas Giant 10-1
R10: #7 Prove It All Night 10-1

Good luck today!
