GAME: San Francisco Giants (30-51) at Pittsburgh Pirates (37-42)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Even as the Pittsburgh Pirates struggle to make a move in the wide-open National League Central, Andrew McCutchen is doing everything in his power to lead the charge. The former NL MVP looks to wrap up a torrid June on Friday when the Pirates host the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game series.

Pittsburgh (37-42) hasn't been able to return to .500 since it was 6-6 following a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs from April 14-16, although the club has shown signs of progress since slipping a season-low nine games below the break-even mark on June 9 by going 11-7 since. McCutchen went 3-for-3 with a run-scoring single in Thursday's rubber-match victory over Tampa Bay, lifting his impressive numbers this month to .398 with six home runs and 23 RBIs. After dropping 12 of their previous 13 entering Monday, the Giants finally gave themselves something to feel good about by taking three straight from Colorado for their first sweep of the season. Building on that success figures to be difficult for San Francisco, which is 4-11 on the road this month and 13-30 away from AT&T Park in 2017.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco), ROOT Pittsburgh

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Johnny Cueto (5-7, 4.20 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (6-6, 4.11)

Cueto enjoyed his finest effort in June but remained winless since May 28 with a no-decision Saturday against the New York Mets, permitting only a solo home run among the five hits and three walks across seven innings. The two-time All-Star has already allowed more homers this year through 100 2/3 innings than he did in 219 2/3 frames in 2016 (15). Cueto has thrived in his career against Pittsburgh, going 19-4 with a 2.10 ERA and 29 starts with four complete games and two shutouts.

Cole has given up exactly one run en route to victory in each of his last three outings, including at St. Louis on Saturday when he held the Cardinals to five hits and two walks in six frames. Outside of an uncharacteristic four-game stretch from May 22-June 8 when he allowed 23 runs in 19 1/3 innings, the 26-year-old UCLA product has posted a 2.44 ERA over his other 12 outings. Cole has been even more dominant in his career against the Giants, going 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in four starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates OF John Jaso went 2-for-4 with a solo homer Thursday and is batting .338 over his last 26 games.

2. San Francisco 3B Jae-Gyun Hwang on Wednesday became only the 17th Giant since 1919 to record a home run as his first major-league hit in his MLB debut.

3. With 15 homers and 29 extra-base hits this season, Pittsburgh 1B Josh Bell needs one more of each to set club marks for the most such hits by a rookie before the All-Star break.

GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (41-40) at Baltimore Orioles (39-39)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Baltimore Orioles are attempting to climb back into the middle of the American League East race and can take over third place when they host the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday to open a three-game set. Baltimore has won four of its last five games after taking two of three at Toronto, capped by a 2-0 triumph Thursday night, and the final two at Tampa Bay last weekend to improve to 4-2 against the Rays in 2017.

Jonathan Schoop recorded his sixth multi-hit game in his last nine outings for the Orioles (39-39) in Thursday’s win with a pair of singles and an RBI, while teammate Caleb Joseph had two hits and is 6-for-10 in his last three contests. Chris Tillman will try to begin turning his season around when he takes the mound for Baltimore and must contain Evan Longoria, who is 20-for-66 with nine homers against the right-hander. Jacob Faria hopes to stay unbeaten in his fifth major-league start for the Rays, who have lost four of five to reach the midpoint of the season at 41-40 after a 4-0 setback at Pittsburgh on Thursday. Logan Morrison had two singles in the loss to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, in which he is 13-for-39.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Jacob Faria (3-0, 2.10 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Chris Tillman (1-5, 8.39)

Faria has opened his major-league career with four straight quality starts but did not factor into the decision Saturday against Baltimore when he allowed three runs over six innings. The 23-year-old Californian gave up three runs total in his first three starts and boasts 29 strikeouts along with only five walks in 25 2/3 innings. Catcher Welington Castillo and Adam Jones each homered against Faria, who is 2-0 in two road outings.

Tillman is winless in nine games since his season debut after permitting five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings of a no-decision at Tampa Bay last Sunday. The 2013 All-Star, who matched his career best with 16 wins in 2016, has yielded at least five runs in six consecutive starts. Tillman is 8-10 with a 4.23 ERA in 26 career starts with the Rays.

WALK-OFFS

1. Jones is one RBI from tying Ken Singleton (766) for fifth on Baltimore’s all-time RBI list and is 8-for-25 against Tampa Bay this year.

2. Tampa Bay SS Adeiny Hechavarria is 4-for-10 in three games since being acquired from Miami on Monday for a pair of minor-leaguers.

3. Castillo slipped and suffered a left knee sprain before Thursday’s game and his status for the weekend is uncertain.

GAME: Boston Red Sox (44-35) at Toronto Blue Jays (37-41)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 7:07 PM EST
WHERE: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Boston Red Sox hope their dominant play at home travels well on Friday as they begin a 10-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series versus the Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox slugged their way to a 6-3 victory on Thursday to take three of four from Minnesota and improve to 25-14 at Fenway Park, although they have dropped six of their last 10 away from Boston.

Mookie Betts belted a homer on Thursday to improve to 7-for-16 with three runs scored during his four-game hitting streak. The 24-year-old torched Toronto by going 5-for-13 with a homer, five RBIs and three runs scored as the Red Sox took two of three at Rogers Centre in April, but is just 2-for-18 with six strikeouts against Friday starter Marco Estrada. The American League East cellar-dwelling Blue Jays fell for the fifth time in seven outings on Thursday as they mustered just three hits in a 2-0 setback to Baltimore. Jose Bautista saw his six-game hitting streak halted on Thursday and is a disastrous 0-for-11 with seven strikeouts this season against Boston.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), TVA Sports, Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Doug Fister (0-1, 4.50 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Marco Estrada (4-6, 4.89)

Making his 200th career start and first with Boston, Fister allowed three runs and struck out six in as many innings of Sunday's 4-2 setback to the Los Angeles Angels. "Overall, it wasn't a bad day," the 33-year-old said of his performance. "They just put together some timely hits and took advantage of well-placed baseballs." Fister owns a 2-2 mark with a 3.51 ERA in seven career encounters with Toronto, although is just 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA in four outings at Rogers Centre.

Estrada fell to 0-4 with a bloated 10.03 ERA in his last five outings on Saturday despite allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings of a 3-2 setback at Kansas City. "I thought Marco looked good; actually really, really good," manager John Gibbons told reporters of the 33-year-old's performance against the Royals. "He looked like the old guy. He went deep into the game, pitched his (rear) off." Estrada didn't do himself any favors by walking four batters for the second straight contest after issuing just five free passes in his previous six trips to the mound.

WALK-OFFS

1. Toronto 3B Josh Donaldson went hitless in 11 at-bats in his last three games and is 3-for-28 with eight strikeouts in his last seven.

2. Boston CF Jackie Bradley Jr. is 5-for-12 in his last three contests and has hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games.

3. Blue Jays CF Kevin Pillar is 10-for-25 in his last eight contests overall and went 7-for-13 in the previous series versus the Red Sox.

GAME: Cleveland Indians (42-36) at Detroit Tigers (35-43)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

A homestand that started on a sour note ended with a surge, and the up-and-down Cleveland Indians head out onto the road in first place in the American League Central. The Indians visit the Detroit Tigers for the beginning of a four-game series on Friday before returning to Cleveland for six straight heading into the All-Star break.

Cleveland began a seven-game homestand by being outscored 13-2 while dropping three straight to Minnesota but picked things up this week by taking three of four from the Texas Rangers to jump ahead of the Twins again in the division. Indians pitchers allowed a total of six runs in the final three games of the series against the Rangers, with ace Corey Kluber striking out 12 in eight innings to polish off a 5-1 win in Thursday's series finale. Trying to keep that run of solid pitching going for Cleveland will be struggling right-hander Josh Tomlin while the Tigers counter with veteran Anibal Sanchez. Detroit comes in hot with wins in three of four as well and will try to make up some ground in the Central with seven games against the Indians before the break.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, STO (Cleveland), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Josh Tomlin (4-9, 6.09 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Anibal Sanchez (0-0, 6.75)

Tomlin failed to complete six innings in any of his last four starts and is coming off a loss to Minnesota on Sunday in which he was reached for four runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. The Texas native is having some trouble keeping the ball in the park of late and yielded a total of six home runs in his last three turns. Tomlin is seeing Detroit for the first time this season and is 6-6 with a 5.32 ERA in 14 career games - 10 starts - against the division rivals.

Sanchez is winless in two starts since coming back to the majors and joining the rotation on June 19 but was solid in both outings - a pair of no-decisions. The Venezuela native allowed two runs - one earned - and two hits without issuing a walk in six innings at San Diego on Saturday but could not get enough support from the offense to earn a win. Sanchez appeared in relief against Cleveland on April 15 and struggled in three innings, surrendering four runs and seven hits.

WALK-OFFS

1. Indians OF Michael Brantley recorded multiple hits in three of the last four games and owns four doubles in that span.

2. Detroit LHP Justin Wilson struck out five in 2 1/3 perfect innings over his last three appearances.

3. Cleveland RF Lonnie Chisenhall drove in six runs in the last four contests.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (26-51) at New York Mets (36-42)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The surging New York Mets will try to follow up a solid finish to a long road trip when they return home to begin a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. After losing the first four games of the 10-game swing, the Mets won five of the final six, including Thursday's 6-3 win at Miami.

Jay Bruce drove in a pair of runs for New York, which has outscored opponents 41-17 during the 5-1 stretch and has moved into third place in the National League East. The Mets have a great chance to keep it going in the series opener with ace Jacob deGrom - who has been dominant in winning three straight starts - on the mound. The Phillies will be aiming for their third winning streak of the season of at least three games after taking both ends of a two-game interleague set at Seattle on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Mets have won 15 of the last 22 meetings, including four of the first six in 2017.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Ben Lively (1-2, 3.90 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (7-3, 3.71)

Lively had the shortest start of his young career Saturday at Arizona, allowing five runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings. He failed to strike out a single batter for the second time in five starts in the majors but also did not issue a walk for the first time since being called up earlier this month. The 25-year-old is 0-2 with a 4.66 ERA in three road starts and will be facing the Mets for the first time.

The 29-year-old deGrom has allowed two earned runs in 25 innings during his three-game win streak, limiting opponents to 12 hits. The Stetson product has a 2.76 ERA in seven starts at home this year and his career ERA mark at Citi Field stands at a sparkling 2.08 over 45 starts. He is 4-0 with a 2.49 ERA in eight career encounters versus the Phillies, including six innings of two-run ball April 10 in Philadelphia.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mets OF Michael Conforto (wrist) has missed three straight games.

2. Phillies CF Odubel Herrera has 13 doubles in June, one shy of the franchise record (Pinky Whitney, 1931) for this month.

3. Bruce is batting .310 with 19 RBIs in June.

GAME: Chicago Cubs (40-39) at Cincinnati Reds (33-45)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago Cubs’ youth movement helped the franchise snap a 108-year championship drought last season, and now the Cubs are counting on a new wave of prospects. Chicago’s injury-depleted lineup is loaded with young players as the Cubs begin a three-game road series against the last-place Cincinnati Reds on Friday.

The Cubs are just one game above .500, but they’re also just one game behind Milwaukee in the National League Central and are coming off a rousing 5-4 win at Washington in which they scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to split the four-game series. They did so with three starters on the shelf, as Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist are on the disabled list and reigning NL MVP Kris Bryant is day-to-day with a sprained ankle. “It’s good to see the freshmen and sophomores coming through,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters. “The frosh had a good day. They have to know they can do that.” The Reds had won three of four following a stretch of 13 losses in 14 games before being routed 11-3 in the finale of their three-game set against visiting Milwaukee on Thursday.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs LH Mike Montgomery (1-4, 2.50 ERA) vs. Reds RH Scott Feldman (6-5, 4.07)

Montgomery has posted back-to-back quality starts, and he has not allowed more than three runs in any of his four outings since moving into the rotation. The 27-year-old gave up three runs in the first inning of a loss Sunday at Miami before shutting out the Marlins for the next five frames and recording a season-high six strikeouts. Montgomery has made six relief appearances versus the Reds, including two this season, allowing three runs - all in his last appearance against them on May 17 - over 6 2/3 innings.

Feldman has recorded quality starts in two straight outings and three of his last four, and he has been victorious in four of his last five decisions. The 34-year-old won at Washington on Sunday, limiting the NL’s best offense to two runs and seven hits over seven innings. Feldman faced the Cubs for the first time May 17 in Chicago and was dinged for seven runs (five earned) in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Cubs have won 23 of the last 28 meetings and eight of the last nine series against the Reds, and they’ve homered in their last 15 games at Great American Ball Park.

2. Reds 1B Joey Votto, who hit his 22nd and 23rd home runs Thursday, has 29 career home runs against the Cubs, more than any other opponent except Milwaukee (32).

3. Cubs 3B Jeimer Candelario, who hit his first major-league home run on Thursday, was hit by a pitch in the left knee in the ninth inning, but X-rays were negative and has been ruled day-to-day with a bruise.

GAME: New York Yankees (42-35) at Houston Astros (54-26)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Lance McCullers Jr. often mesmerizes hitters, and he looks to befuddle the New York Yankees' lineup for the second time this season when the Houston Astros host the opener of their three-game series on Friday. McCullers pitched six scoreless innings in defeating New York on May 12, when he gave up four hits while recording seven strikeouts.

McCullers, who has allowed one run over 12 innings in two career wins versus the Yankees, owns the fourth-best ERA in the majors, and his dominance has helped the Astros move 28 games over .500 for the first time since late in the 2001 campaign. Houston has won eight of its last 10 contests and smashed 128 homers, the second-most in franchise history prior to the All-Star break behind the 2001 squad's 134. The Yankees have lost 12 of their last 16 contests and began a seven-game road trip by splitting a four-game set with the Chicago White Sox, including Thursday's 4-3 setback that kept them one game behind first-place Boston in the American League East. Breakout star Aaron Judge, who has hit 10 homers this month, was robbed of his major league-best 28th in Thursday's loss.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, YES (New York), ROOT Southwest (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Michael Pineda (7-4, 4.12 ERA) vs. Astros RH Lance McCullers Jr. (7-1, 2.53)

Pineda served up three homers while getting torched for seven runs and six hits in four innings of a loss to Texas in his last turn. The 28-year-old has struggled on the road, allowing five runs and 10 hits in each of his last two outings and is 1-2 with a 6.25 ERA in six such starts. Pineda is 2-3 with a 4.62 ERA in six career starts against the Astros, including a loss on May 11 in which he gave up three runs and six hits over 6 2/3 frames.

McCullers returned from a stint on the disabled list caused by a back injury to beat Seattle on Saturday, when he allowed one run and four hits over five innings. The 23-year-old has won five consecutive decisions and allowed just three earned runs and 17 hits over 28 frames in those contests. McCullers is 4-0 with a 1.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and .195 batting average against in six home starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Astros SS Carlos Correa, who is 6-for-10 with three homers against Pineda, went deep twice in Thursday's 6-1 victory over Oakland and has belted seven homers this month.

2. New York OF Dustin Fowler, who made his major-league debut on Thursday, ruptured the right patella tendon in his right knee and was slated to undergo surgery at a Chicago hospital.

3. Houston RF Josh Reddick is 14-for-26 with two homers, eight RBIs and 12 runs scored over his last eight games.

GAME: Miami Marlins (35-42) at Milwaukee Brewers (42-39)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Milwaukee Brewers haven't been shy about testing the limits of ballparks this season, highlighted by a six-homer performance in their last outing. The Brewers aim to continue their power surge on Friday when they return to Miller Park to begin a six-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series versus the Miami Marlins.

Ryan Braun homered for the second straight night in Thursday's 11-3 rout of Cincinnati to improve to 4-for-14 with four runs scored since returning from a 31-game absence due to a left calf strain. The 2011 National League MVP has feasted on both Miami and Friday starter Edinson Volquez during his career, batting .316 versus the club and 14-for-46 against the right-hander. Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who is the reigning Home Run Derby champion, went deep for the third time in six games on Thursday in a 6-3 loss to the New York Mets. The 27-year-old Stanton will look to continue swinging a hot bat versus Friday starter Matt Garza, against whom he is 3-for-10 with a homer and four RBIs.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Edinson Volquez (4-8, 4.15 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Matt Garza (3-4, 4.43)

Volquez improved to 4-1 in his last six starts on Sunday after allowing two runs on five hits in as many innings of a 4-2 victory versus the Chicago Cubs. The performance was not without warts, however, as the 33-year-old Dominican walked five batters for the second straight outing and has issued 14 free passes in his last three. "I don't like it, but I had no choice," Volquez told reporters about pitching out of the stretch with runners on base. "You start walking people, you get yourself in trouble."

Garza dropped his second straight start and fell to 1-4 with a 6.32 ERA in his last six outings on Saturday despite yielding three runs in six innings of a 3-1 setback at Atlanta. The 33-year-old was taken deep in that contest, but the remaining seven of his eight homers allowed have come at Miller Park. Martin Prado is riding a five-game hitting streak but is just 4-for-20 in his career versus Garza, who owns a 3-3 mark with a 5.11 ERA in eight career starts against Miami.

WALK-OFFS

1. Milwaukee OFs Corey Ray and Lewis Brinson will play for the United States team while SS Mauricio Dubon will compete for the World team in the All-Star Futures Game in Miami.

2. Marlins 1B Justin Bour is 0-for-7 with four strikeouts in his last two contests.

3. The Brewers placed RHP Chase Anderson on the disabled list on Thursday, one day after he sustained an oblique injury in Wednesday's game against the Reds.

GAME: Texas Rangers (39-40) at Chicago White Sox (34-44)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago White Sox own the worst record in the American League and will try to inch themselves in the right direction when they host the Texas Rangers on Friday in the opener of their three-game series. The White Sox took a positive step Thursday with a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees that improved them to 2-5 on their 10-game homestand.

Chicago's victory was just its third in 11 games, and the club sits eight games behind first-place Cleveland in the American League Central. Jose Abreu went 7-for-18 with four RBIs as the White Sox split the four-game series with the Yankees and has driven in 21 runs this month. Texas is 3-4 on its 10-game road trip after losing three of four in Cleveland and has scored just six runs over its last three games. Mike Napoli is 1-for-19 with 10 strikeouts over his last six contests as his sagging season average dropped to .188.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Austin Bibens-Dirkx (3-0, 3.68 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Mike Pelfrey (3-6, 3.73)

Bibens-Dirkx shut down the Yankees in his last turn, when he gave up one run and five hits over seven innings. It was the second time in three starts the 32-year-old allowed just one run over seven frames. Bibens-Dirkx is 2-0 with a 2.22 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 24 1/3 innings on the road.

Pelfrey lost to Oakland in his last start as he gave up three runs and four hits over 4 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old served up two homers and matched a season high with five walks in the suspect outing. Pelfrey is 1-2 with a 5.97 ERA in five career starts against the Rangers and has struggled with Adrian Beltre (4-for-11, two homers).

WALK-OFFS

1. The White Sox have won their last five home meetings with the Rangers.

2. Chicago OF Avisail Garcia (knee), who sat out Thursday after going 0-for-19 in his previous five games, underwent an MRI exam and could miss the series.

3. Texas RHP Andrew Cashner (elbow) was struck by Edwin Encarnacion's broken bat in Thursday's loss and underwent X-rays, which were negative.

GAME: Washington Nationals (47-32) at St. Louis Cardinals (37-41)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The St. Louis Cardinals are finally streaking in the right direction and have a chance to reach .500 by the All-Star break if they can keep up the momentum. The Cardinals just got through taking a series from one of the best teams in the National League and will try to turn that trick again when they host the NL East-leading Washington Nationals in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

St. Louis (37-41) is beginning a 10-game homestand that takes it into the All-Star break and comes home after taking two of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks, with the lone loss coming in extra innings on Tuesday. The Cardinals, who host sub-.500 Miami and the New York Mets after finishing up with Washington, broke out the bats with three runs in the seventh inning and five more in the eighth during Thursday afternoon's 10-4 triumph. That late-inning clout is something the Nationals don't need to see after watching the bullpen blow yet another lead on Thursday, when Blake Treinen surrendered three runs in the ninth as the Nationals fell 5-4 to the Chicago Cubs. Tanner Roark will try to keep it out of the bullpen's hands when he takes the mound for Washington on Friday opposite Cardinals righty Mike Leake.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, MLB Network, MASN 2 (Washington), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Tanner Roark (6-5, 5.15 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Mike Leake (5-6, 3.12)

Roark is trying to snap a four-start winless streak and is coming off a loss to Cincinnati in which he surrendered six runs and nine hits in six innings. The 30-year-old was knocked around for a total of 19 runs and 24 hits in 13 2/3 innings over his last three outings. Roark managed a win without being particularly sharp against St. Louis on April 10, when he was charged with five runs - three earned - and seven hits in five frames.

Leake enters the contest riding a string of six straight winless starts, though he managed a quality start in a no-decision against Pittsburgh on Sunday while allowing three earned runs and six hits in six innings. The Arizona State product owned an ERA of 1.91 after going eight strong innings in a win at the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 24 but watched that number increase by over a run in the last month. Leake breezed past Washington on April 12, scattering four hits without a walk in seven scoreless frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon is 5-for-10 with two home runs and five runs scored in the last three games.

2. St. Louis OF Randal Grichuk owns three homers and nine RBIs in five games since being recalled from the minors.

3. Washington SS Trea Turner owns 22 steals in June, the most in a month since Jose Reyes stole 23 in Aug. 2007.

Kansas City Royals left-hander Jason Vargas bids to become the American League's first 12-game winner on Friday as he carries a six-start winning streak into the opener of a four-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins. The 34-year-old has allowed just 10 runs during that stretch and sports a 6-1 mark with an AL-best 1.92 ERA at home this season.

"He's leading the league in wins and ERA. I don't see how he can't be (the starter in the All-Star Game)," Royals manager Ned Yost said of Vargas, who owns the longest winning streak by a Kansas City starter since Zack Greinke emerged victorious in nine straight starts spanning the 2008-09 seasons. Eric Hosmer enters the weekend series going 7-for-19 during his five-game hitting streak and is 8-for-26 with three homers and 11 RBIs in his career versus Friday starter Ervin Santana. While Kansas City has dropped three of its last four overall and seven of eight to Minnesota this season, the Twins have been outscored 20-10 en route to losing three of their last four. Joe Mauer collected his fifth multi-hit performance in eight outings in Thursday's 6-3 loss to Boston and is 14-for-36 with nine RBIs in his career versus Vargas.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (10-4, 2.80 ERA) vs. Royals LH Jason Vargas (11-3, 2.29)

Santana struck out seven and worked around nine hits over six innings to record his second straight win on Sunday with a 4-0 victory at Cleveland. "He really cranked it up (his fastball) pretty good a couple of times. And he's able to maintain his poise in rough waters," manager Paul Molitor told reporters. The strong outing by the 34-year-old Dominican came on the heels of two sub-par performances, during which he surrendered four homers, 11 runs and 19 hits while splitting a pair of decisions.

Vargas overcame a pair of solo homers to work seven strong innings in a 3-2 victory over Toronto on Saturday. "The way he can command that changeup, it's a tough, tough pitch," Yost told reporters. "You see a lot of way out front swings on it. Very seldom will he make a mistake on it." Vargas sports a 6-4 mark with a 3.75 ERA in 17 career appearances versus Minnesota.

WALK-OFFS

1. Kansas City CF Lorenzo Cain is 5-for-30 with six strikeouts versus Minnesota this season.

2. Twins 3B Miguel Sano will participate in the Home Run Derby on July 10, the team announced on Thursday.

3. Royals LHP Foster Griffin, who was the 28th overall pick of the 2014 draft, has been selected to pitch for the United States team for the 2017 All-Star Futures Game.

GAME: Colorado Rockies (47-34) at Arizona Diamondbacks (50-30)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 9:40 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

What appeared as recently as mid-June to be a dream season for the Colorado Rockies has quickly turned sour, leaving them mired in their longest losing streak in over two years. After watching their eight-game slide begin at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks last week, the Rockies attempt to right the ship Friday when they open a three-game series at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Colorado extended its best start in club history to 47-26 following a series-opening home win over Arizona on June 20 before getting outscored over the final two games at Coors Field 26-8. The Rockies haven't won since - getting swept in three games by the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers and division-worst San Francisco - to tarnish what was once an impressive 25-13 road record. The Diamondbacks boast the majors' second-best home mark at 30-12, although Colorado won two of three earlier in the year at Phoenix and holds a 5-4 edge in the season series. Arizona won for the 15th time in 17 home contests Tuesday versus St. Louis but fell in the last two games of the set to the Cardinals to drop a set at Chase Field for the first time since that series loss to the Rockies at the end of April.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, MLB Network, ROOT Rocky Mountain (Colorado), FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Jon Gray (0-0, 4.38 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks LH Robbie Ray (8-3, 2.87)

Gray, who has been on the disabled list since the middle of April due to a stress fracture in his left foot, will return to the big-league mound after a strong three-game rehab stint. Colorado's Opening Day starter did not pitch more than five frames in any of the rehab outings, but he still posted a 1.35 ERA and struck out 18. Gray hasn't fared nearly as well in either of his two starts against the Diamondbacks, going 0-1 while giving up a total of nine runs and 17 hits in 12 1/3 innings.

Ray continued to make his bid for an All-Star nod Saturday against Philadelphia, winning his sixth consecutive decision after allowing two runs on six hits and four walks across 6 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old Tennessee native is unbeaten over his last eight turns and has been particularly stingy over his last seven, permitting one run or less five times. Ray took the loss at home against Colorado on April 28, giving up three runs in 6 2/3 frames to fall to 2-2 with a 5.10 ERA in eight starts versus the Rockies.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt (66) and 3B Jake Lamb (64) - along with Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado (61) and 1B Mark Reynolds (60) - occupy four of the top five spots in the NL in RBIs.

2. Colorado is batting .206 with 23 runs scored and 11 extra-base hits during its losing streak.

3. Goldschmidt is 11-for-24 with four homers, 12 RBIs and eight runs scored in his last six games against the Rockies.

GAME: Atlanta Braves (37-41) at Oakland Athletics (35-44)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 10:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Atlanta Braves had their consecutive series wins streak halted in San Diego but hope to begin another one when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Friday for the opener of their three-game set. Atlanta had won four straight series before dropping two of three to the Padres, including a 6-0 decision in Thursday's rubber match.

The Braves registered only four hits in the setback, with Ender Inciarte notching a double to run his hitting streak to 11 games. Oakland returns home from a 4-2 road trip that concluded with back-to-back losses at Houston. The Athletics also struggled to record hits Thursday, producing only five in a 6-1 setback. Oakland hopes to have Yonder Alonso back in the lineup as the 30-year-old Cuban, who is third on the team with a career-high 17 home runs, missed Thursday's loss after fouling a ball off his right knee a day earlier.

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN South (Atlanta), NBCSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Mike Foltynewicz (5-5, 4.10 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Sonny Gray (3-3, 4.45)

Foltynewicz extended his unbeaten streak to five starts last Friday, recording his second victory during the stretch after allowing one run and four hits in five innings against Milwaukee. The 25-year-old native of Illinois has given up fewer than three runs four times during his streak and six times over his last nine outings, going 5-1 over that span. Foltynewicz made his only career appearance against Oakland in relief, walking two batters and striking out another on Aug. 27, 2014 while with Houston.

Gray ended his five-start victory drought on Sunday at Chicago, as he limited the White Sox to two runs - one earned - and four hits over seven innings. The 27-year-old from Tennessee issued just one walk after handing out a total of seven free passes in his previous two turns. Gray lost his only career start against the Braves on Aug. 16, 2014, when he yielded four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 frames at Atlanta.

WALK-OFFS

1. Braves 1B Matt Adams exited Thursday's game in the second inning with a contusion after fouling a ball off his left foot, on which X-rays were negative.

2. Oakland RF Matt Joyce is riding a seven-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 contests after recording one of the team's five hits on Thursday.

3. Atlanta began the separation process with RHP Bartolo Colon on Thursday, designating the 44-year-old for assignment after he posted a 2-8 record and 8.14 ERA in 13 starts. The team filled the roster spot by purchasing the contract of LHP Rex Brothers from Triple-A Gwinnett.

GAME: Seattle Mariners (39-41) at Los Angeles Angels (42-41)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 10:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The inconsistent Seattle Mariners look to halt their four-game slide when they open a three-game series against the host Los Angeles Angels on Friday. Seattle recorded a season-best six straight wins before immediately falling on tough times, including losing consecutive home games to lowly Philadelphia.

Seattle is waiting on slugger Nelson Cruz to regain his power form as his homerless streak is at 20 games despite the fact he ranks second in the American League with 59 RBIs. Kyle Seager also is below his norm after hitting at least 25 homers each of the last three seasons - his total stands at nine after going deep in Wednesday's loss to Philadelphia. The Angels are biding their time until the return of star center fielder Mike Trout (thumb), as Albert Pujols is proving he no longer can carry a team. The 37-year-old slugger is batting just .202 with three homers this month, has failed to go deep in each of his last 10 games and is 0-for-11 against scheduled Seattle starter Ariel Miranda.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, ROOT Northwest (Seattle), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH Ariel Miranda (6-4, 4.11 ERA) vs. Angels RH Parker Bridwell (2-0, 2.95)

Miranda, who is winless in his last four starts, is taking the mound after rookie Sam Gaviglio was pushed back to Saturday. The 28-year-old Cuban lost to Houston in his last turn as he gave up four runs and five hits over 7 1/3 innings. Miranda is 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA in four career outings against the Angels, including a victory on May 4 in which he allowed two runs and seven hits over seven frames.

Bridwell defeated Boston in his last outing as he gave up two runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old has served up five homers over 21 1/3 frames in four appearances (three starts) this season. Bridwell is 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA in two games (one start) at Angel Stadium.

WALK-OFFS

1. Angels RHP Bud Norris (knee) could be activated over the weekend.

2. Seattle RF Mitch Haniger is hitless in 11 at-bats with six strikeouts over his last three games.

3. Los Angeles 2B Danny Espinosa is 1-for-15 over his last five contests.

GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (53-28) at San Diego Padres (33-46)
DATE/TIME: Friday, June 30 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been taking full advantage of their lengthy string of games in the Golden State and hope to continue their success when they visit the San Diego Padres on Friday for the opener of their three-game series. Los Angeles posted a 6-2 road victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday to improve to 9-2 on a stretch during which it plays 20 straight contests in California.

The Dodgers continued their power surge against the Angels, going deep three times in the triumph to raise their home-run total for June to 50 - a franchise record for any month. Rookie Cody Bellinger had belted a team-leading 13 shots this month but was kept in the park Thursday for a fourth consecutive contest after a two-homer performance against Colorado on Sunday. San Diego is looking to win three straight series for the first time this season after taking two of three from both Detroit and Atlanta during its nine-game homestand. Hunter Renfroe and Manuel Margot each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs Thursday as the Padres recorded nine hits in their 6-0 triumph over the Braves.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Alex Wood (8-0, 1.86 ERA) vs. Padres LH Clayton Richard (5-7, 4.42)

Wood is coming off a victory over Colorado last Friday in which he gave up one run and three hits over six innings. The 26-year-old native of North Carolina, who hasn't lost since May 30, 2016, is the first Dodger to begin a season 8-0 since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981 and open a campaign with an unbeaten streak of 10 or more starts since Orel Hershiser (also 11) in 1985. Wood is 2-1 with a 2.19 ERA in nine career appearances (five starts) against San Diego, including a scoreless two-inning relief outing on April 5.

Richard escaped with a no-decision against Detroit on Sunday after surrendering five runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. The 33-year-old from Indiana has won his last three decisions at home, tossing his first complete game since 2012 on May 21 against Arizona and falling one out shy of another on June 13 versus Cincinnati. Richard owns a 7-5 record and 3.69 ERA in 21 career games (19 starts) versus the Padres after splitting a pair of decisions against them earlier this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Dodgers CF Joc Pederson hit the team's record-setting homer Thursday, a three-run shot that gave him his second three-RBI performance in three games.

2. Renfroe and 1B Wil Myers both homered Thursday to remain tied for the team lead with 16 apiece.

3. Dodgers SS Corey Seager returned to the lineup Thursday after missing five games with a strained hamstring and went 0-for-4.
