Mohawk: Friday 5/30 Analysis
By Greg Gangle
DRF HARNESS

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: SOCIAL SCENE (4th)

Spot Play: CHERYLS SURPRISE (9th)

Race 1

(7) ALL CHROME has been excellent since arriving in the Auciello barn and once again poses as a top threat. (8) REB THE RAIDER won last week at this level by a nose and gets Christoforou back in the bike. (4) HISTORIAN draws well, comes out of Tackoor's barn and has remained very competitive in this class.

Race 2

(2) JULIET draws inside, qualified very strongly and comes out of Steacy's barn. (4) WINDSUN REVENGE is fresh off a win at very low odds and is capable of the class jump. (5) ADVERSITY also won last week for trainer/driver Henriksen. He has the speed and shouldn't get away too far back.

Race 3

(4) MAJOR DANCER is a perfect two-for-two this season and comes out of the Coleman barn. (8) NAT A VIRGIN looks like a top threat if she can mind her manners. (7) REGALLY READY comes out of the McNair barn, shows the speed and should offer a fair price.

Race 4

(6) SOCIAL SCENE comes out of the Preferred and gets major class relief. (8) EAT ME UP hasn't won this season from 18 tries, but drops in class and comes out of Moreau's barn. (9) BAROCKEY has excellent gate-speed, comes out of the Auciello barn and should offer a fair price from the outside.

Race 5

(1) ANGIES LUCKY STAR drops in class and debuts for new trainer Moreau. (9) MAGIC LINDY won last week at this level and is a concern for the top spot if she minds her manners. (3) LETS LEAVEM draws inside, has the speed and hit the board last week in this class.

Race 6

(5) MACHLEEN went a speedy mile last week and drops in class. She has a good record this season. (8) BRUSHSTROKES has hit the board in each of her last two starts on this circuit and has been finishing her miles very well. (2) WARRAWEE LIMELIGHT draws inside, drops in class and comes out of the Gillis barn.

Race 7

(7) A REAL COMMITMENT won last week in the debut of trainer Fletcher. She'll look for back-to-back wins. (2) DEAR ARYSS draws inside, comes out of the Gallucci barn and has hit the board in three of her last four. (3) ALL CHOCOLATE has an excellent record this season, draws well and has been racing very strongly in this class.

Race 8

(1) LIGHTS GO OUT draws inside, comes from a top barn and has been racing at her best consecutively this season. (4) ROCK N ROLL XAMPLE has excellent gate-speed along with a terrific record. She's a main candidate in here. (2) MACH A WISH draws, comes out of the O'Sullivan barn and has all kinds of back class.

Race 9

(9) CHERYLS SURPRISE raced very well last week in the debit of Auciello and adds lasix. She has excellent gate-speed and drops in class. (5) MACHET ROCKET drops in class, has back class and draws well. (1) BEAUTY PRINCESS gets the rail, has been racing at her best and hasn't missed the board in each of her last four starts.

Race 10

(7) BEACH GAL has finished second in both starts this season. She comes from Menary's barn, is versatile and is due for her first win of the season. (8) ALIBI SEELSTER hasn't missed the board yet this season, comes out of the Darling barn and remains at the same level. (5) BAHAM BLUE continues to improve with each start, draws well and enjoys being put in the race.

Race 11

(8) EINSTEINS BEST looks like the best in here on paper and was a convincing winner last week in this class. (9) JET TRACKER qualified very strong and hasn't been worse than second in both starts this season. (6) OPENING LINE has been racing very well in recent weeks and usually offers a good price. He draws well and is a good option for the triactor.

Race 3 - $30,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 7 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

MEET STATS: 34 - 105 / $235.40 BEST BETS: 4 - 8 / $15.60

Best Bet: FICO (2nd)

Spot Play: CAROLSIDEAL (5th)

Race 1

(2) GREEN HORNUT needs to be placed on the engine and allowed to chug on down the road at his own pace. If he is allowed to do that Friday, he should score. (5) SILVERHILL VOLO is an expensive yearling that has yet to pay his way. Driver switch to Pierce should help. (6) MASTER KEMP raced well in his debut and can improve.

Race 2

(3) FICO tired in the stretch to begin his 4-year-old season. He should be tighter this week and the addition of Pierce can only help. (6) QUEEN OF MORE has no shot in his first start for this barn; playable. (1) LOVE TALK flashed some ability at 2 and doesn’t exactly catch the toughest group in the world to start her sophomore campaign.

Race 3

Quite frankly, this is an impossible race to handicap and I’m advising hitting the ‘ALL’ button (or at least use a handful) if you try the pick 4 or pick 5. (5) MR JIM DANDY comes into this race in fine form and should benefit from a likely quick pace with outside speed signed on. (4) ASHCROFT rallied for second in his last try here. (6) HARDROCKENJESSICA had an awful trip last time but seems to be racing well. (7) GIMME THE LOOT is more than capable of winning with top amateur driver Krivelin in the bike. (8) IPO BLUE CHIP will probably be the one to beat if Oldford can keep him trotting.

Race 4

(3) CELTIC MERCHANT doesn’t look great on paper (which means he’ll be a price), but this 11-year-old veteran knows his way to the winner’s circle. (8) BROWNER SHUTTLE has been racing well and deserves respect as the chalk. (6) LAD PINE had some traffic last week and finished well. (7) WHATNBLAZES should flash speed and get a nice piece. (4) JAILHOUSE SCORPION scored his only 2014 win here.

Race 5

(2) CAROLSIDEAL should be primed for a nice effort in her third start since January. Five-year-old mare knows how to step up and score at a price. (5) MISTRESSTOTHESTARS arrives here sharp. (8) JARNAC has been second or third in 9 of her 12 starts this year.

Race 6

(2) LIGHTNING STORM raced well in his 2014 debut and wouldn’t need to step up much to score an upset on Friday. (9) QUICK DEAL is an erratic speed-ball who seems likely to wire the field if he can make it past the start. (7) WORLD CUP is nearly a lock to hit the board and certainly a threat to win. (6) UPFRONT BILLY seems likely to show speed in this spot. (8) HERE COMES NUMBERS can blow past the field in the stretch if feeling good.

Race 7

(7) ICOMMANDMYSPIRIT seems to be in line for another good trip either in the pocket or on the lead; fine form. (9) MONOCHROMATIC didn’t exactly get a smooth trip last time; using. (4) HANDSOFFMYCOOKIE returns to the Meadowlands at a reduced level.

Race 8

(6) RINGSIDE LAURYN faces a field full of unreliable types. I’ve seen this barn miraculously wake up worse horses than this mare. (1) PTS BOOMERANG had a tough trip last time but was a solid second in her prior start. (7) ARRIBA AMIGO does his best work on the lead and might get a more aggressive steer this time.

Race 9

(2) MARINADE HANOVER finds a great spot this week and should be driven accordingly. (6) MISS MACHQUEEN has performed well at this level in the past. (8) ALWAYS ON A ROLL never got involved last time; another shot. (1) WANNA WIN has early speed and an inside post.

Race 10

(3) BLUTO kept his act together and trotted evenly with hobbles added. Four-year-old son of Donato Hanover has talent and could be ready to show it in this bottom-level spot. (5) UPFRONTSTRIKESGOLD had no chance last time; another shot. (4) RIVERFEST drops down and should be involved early.

Race 11

(5) HANDOVER BELLE picked up her game last week with a nice effort and could be on the verge of a form spree. (2) SWAN IN A MILLION raced very well against the bias in his first start since October. He looks like a major player in this race but one who will be an underlay. (7) TIME TO QUIT gets class relief; using. (9) BROADWAY ROCKS has speed and form.

Race 12

(2) SINA hasn’t started in three weeks but looks much the best on paper; mixed feelings. (6) SILVER DELIVERY had no shot last time; chance. (1) TOUCH OF CHARM has early speed and an inside draw to get position.

Race 13

(2) IDEAL A LITTLE tried to brush and tired just a few days ago at Philly. If that race doesn’t have her tight for tonight against this awful group, nothing will. (8) MOJARRA HANOVER was bad last time but deserves another chance. (7) ARIANE HANOVER adds Callahan.

Yonkers: Friday 5/30 Analysis
By Brewster Smith
DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 153 - 611 / $961.70 BEST BETS: 13 - 51 / $49.90

Best Bet: WAITING ON A WOMAN (2nd)

Spot Play: POLITICAL DESIRE (11th)

Race 1

(3) GIACOMETTI Sharp from the pocket to grab the victory last time out. Repeat is not out of the question. (4) DUTCH RICHMAN was sent down the road last out for all the glory; main danger. (5) PICTONIAN PRIDE has hit the board in his last two trips.

Race 2

(1) WAITING ON A WOMAN Trotting miss gets post and class relief. Ready to boss these with Brennan at the controls. (5) GRAIN OF TRUTH was second best last time around. (8) SEAGRAM has speed to get good position from the 8-hole; maybe.

Race 3

(3) CRITICAL ACCLAIM Freehold invader moves his trade to Yonkers and with the right trip, he could make tonight a winning one. (7) BAY FISHEN DOC can be right square in the mix. (6) NORTHERN IDEAL might land a share of the purse.

Race 4

(1) PRESTISSIMO flashed good speed in his last try and now he receives the rail slot; down the road tonight. (4) BOOTS N BOURBON drops a notch in class; main danger. (3) DRAGON RIDGE Qualifier here was good enough to contend.

Race 5

(2) SOME LIKE IT HOT Easy score in her previous outing. Trotting mare is very capable of taking her second straight victory. (1) DOULLY has been sharp of late and should be a factor in here. (7) FORT VALLEY AS gets serious class relief; watch out.

Race 6

(8) MONKEY ON MY WHEEL did not race badly against tougher at Philly last out. Should find this group to her liking; the pick. (3) HULAS Z TAM and (6) VIRGIN MARY will both be closing in the final strides.

Race 7

(1) HARBOR POINT Gelding draws the fence for this event and with his speed, he has every right to get the job done. (4) IMA QUE T Very sharp trotter will be a strong contender in here. (2) BOUND FOR FAME just missed all the glory last out; don't overlook.

Race 8

(6) FRAU BLUCHER showed speed against tougher last out at Woodbine. Trotting miss fits well in here and good to see Sears with the call. (5) ARCHANGEL is seeking his first victory in 2014 and this looks like a perfect spot for him to be a player with these. (4) TOBER has hit the board in his last three trips to the post; watch out.

Race 9

(3) CUTTY SHARK Speedy gelding was a strong second place finisher previously. He's ready to roll tonight. (1) PAMS LEGACY got the job done via the pocket route last time out; threat again. (5) PUTNAMS ATTACK has wheeled off two straight victories at this level.

Race 10

(3) PENN TURBO TED gets class relief and Sears signs on to drive; threat to boss these. (1) N J LAW moves down the ladder and should be on his toes from the fence. (7) BLUE STRIKE has scored in his last two tries.

Race 11

(2) POLITICAL DESIRE Saratoga invader was nailed for win honors last time out. He's back at Yonkers and the 2-hole can help his cause. (3) ALTERNAT THURSDAYS is better than his latest. (4) ANTHONYSKYWALKER takes a drop in class and is not out of this by far.

Race 12

(2) KEEPERS DESTINY moves inside for the finale and with a fine-timed drive from Sears, tthis pacing mare can mow these down at her best. (1) MISS ANNIE J should do much better from the 1-hole. (6) SIR JILLIAN Z TAM She has done well in her last two trips; watch out.

KEY STAT: Peru have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven friendlies

EXPERT VERDICT: Chile’s slick victory at Wembley in November illustrated the dangers of underestimating South American opposition, and Peru are another solid unit with the potential to frustrate. England have scored more than two goals in a home friendly just once since 2010, and the value bet could be on another low-scoring encounter

RECOMMENDATION: England 2-0

KEY STAT: Iceland have lost nine of their last 12 friendlies

EXPERT VERDICT: Iceland did well to reach a World Cup play-off but may struggle against Austria, who conceded just ten goals during their qualifying campaign. The hosts have more strength in depth and have beaten USA and drawn with Uruguay in their last two friendlies.

RECOMMENDATION: Austria

KEY STAT: Bolivia haven’t won an away match since 2007

EXPERT VERDICT: The 13-2 about Spain winning the World Cup is unlikely to last much longer and the champions can warm up in style against Bolivia. The South Americans have a dismal away record and whichever team Vicente Del Bosque puts out should pass them off the park in a one-sided contest.

RECOMMENDATION: Spain 3-0

KEY STAT: Northern Ireland have only won one of their last 20 matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Northern Ireland are a poor side and even accounting for the injury to Uruguay’s main main Luis Suarez, Oscar Tabarez’s men should take them apart. Plenty of chances should fall the way of Edinson Cavani, who looks a good bet to open the scoring for the 2010 World Cup semi-finalists.

RECOMMENDATION: E Cavani first goalscorer

Gulfstream Race 6 for Friday, May 30, 2014
Handicapped by The Turf Club Analysts

Bar

Gulfstream - Race #6 - Post: 4:00pm - Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $16,125 Class Rating: 77

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#7 ULTIMATE SPEED (ML=6/1)
#9 ROYAL BUSINESS (ML=8/1)

ULTIMATE SPEED - Speed figures on the turf point to this animal as a legit contender. Has the best in the field for this dist-surf. This horse's last race was out at Gulfstream in a race with a class number of 89. Dropping considerably in class rating in today's event puts her in a solid position in this race. For my money, a bullet workout is the best indicator of fitness there is. Look at that last one - 102.2. Very impressive. Entered a $35,000 Claiming race at Gulfstream last out and raced on the soft turf finishing tenth. Have to give a better effort right here. ROYAL BUSINESS - Aboard this entrant on May 16th and Zayas is right back in the irons this time around. I like that latest outing on May 16th at Gulfstream where she ended up third.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 WILD HEIRESS (ML=5/2), #3 TEN EASY STREET (ML=3/1), #8 EARLY GLORY (ML=5/1),

WILD HEIRESS - Hasn't been on the Gulfstream oval in the last three weeks. Cause for some concern. TEN EASY STREET - Should probably pass on this youngster, she hasn't had enough experience to win this kind of race. This filly ********** a speed rating in her last affair which probably isn't good enough in today's event. EARLY GLORY - This horse likes to be on the board, but doesn't usually win. Don't put in the top spot. The speed figure in the last race doesn't fit very well in this contest when I look at the class figure of today's event. Mark this entrant as a possibly overvalued equine.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - ULTIMATE SPEED - This mount, posting the top average class figure, figures to give these ponies a run for their money.

Calder - Race #8 - Post: 4:30pm - Maiden Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,500 Class Rating: 58

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#8 SHE'S RISKY (ML=6/1)
#4 JACKSON'S HATRIXIE (ML=3/1)

SHE'S RISKY - I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run her best in the 3rd or 4th start back. Look for this mare to run much better in this race. Last race at Tampa Bay finishing fourth in the slop is no indication of her true ability. JACKSON'S HATRIXIE - Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this pony is up against an easier field than last time around the track at Calder. Don't often see a beneficial ROI like +40. This jockey/trainer tandem has done well together over the last 12 months.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 TWO TURN PANTHER (ML=9/5), #7 SWEET ANNE GOLD (ML=4/1),

TWO TURN PANTHER - Not probable that the speed fig she garnered on Apr 25th will be good enough in this race. SWEET ANNE GOLD - This pony has had no success at Calder. This less than sharp equine ran a mediocre fig last time out. She shouldn't show signs of improvement and will probably lose in today's event running that figure. A come from behinder like this one needs a ding-dong battle to set things up and she isn't likely to get one this time out.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - SHE'S RISKY - My statistics have shown that lone early speed on the front end provides an excellent opportunity to the bettor. This animal fits the bill.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Putting our cash on #8 SHE'S RISKY to win. Have to have odds of at least 5/2 or better though

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 1 SWEET MADELINE 3/1

# 4 DUTAMIS 4/1

# 3 LITE THE CIGAR 5/2

SWEET MADELINE is my choice. Will probably be one of the early speedsters of the pack going into the midpoint of the contest. Should keep the good string of finish positions intact this time around. Is a solid choice - given the 73 Equibase Speed Figure from her most recent race. DUTAMIS - Must be given consideration here on the basis of the figures in the speed department alone. Has been running soundly lately and will most likely be on the lead early on. LITE THE CIGAR - Bird has this gelding racing well and is a solid selection based on the very good Equibase Speed Figures recorded in sprint races recently.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 8 CONSPIRED 8/1

# 7 STREETHOMEALABAMA 4/1

# 4 LET IT SNOW 4/1

I lean toward CONSPIRED in this contest particularly if the morning line of 8/1 holds. Must be considered as she drops to compete against this easier bunch. This animal must be played at the expected high odds. She has posted quite good figs under today's conditions and will probably fare well against this group. STREETHOMEALABAMA - I like the jock on this filly - solid chance to win the competition. With a strong 76 average speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. LET IT SNOW - Ought to come out solid - I have liked the way this filly has moved swiftly to the lead recently. Must be considered based on the solid speed fig recorded in the last contest.

#2 CHARGE NOW qualifies as a TrackMaster PLUS "PowerPony," takes a slight class drop (-1), and is the speed leader in this allowance field this afternoon racing at, or about, this afternoon's distance of 9½ furlongs on the dirt, and has hit the board in both of his two career starts to date, including a maiden-breaking, "POWER RUN WIN" in his last start. Jockey Joel Rosario was in his irons for that win, which produced a +290% return on investment in the process, and Rosario is back today for his 2nd ride, gunning for back-to-back "Circle Trips." #6 LONG WATER comes off back-to-back "POWER RUN BOARD HITS" in his last two outings, also breaking his respective maiden in his last start.
