KEY STAT: There has not been more than a one-goal margin of victory in the last ten FA Cup finals

EXPERT VERDICT: Arsenal are red-hot favourites to retain the FA Cup, but the holders face a trickier test than the odds suggest when they take on Aston Villa at Wembley. The Gunners will be reasonably happy with their form in the second half of the season, although they remain capable of chucking in dodgy performances under pressure.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in just three of Falkirk's last 12 matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Inverness finished their Scottish Premiership season with a 5-0 thumping at Celtic, but they should capture the Scottish Cup. Falkirk have not beaten any top-flight teams on their way to Hampden, have claimed just three victories against sides in the top half of the Championship and have taken just one point from their last four matches.

RECOMMENDATION: Inverness

KEY STAT: Wolfsburg have lost one of their last 12 domestic matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Progress to the German Cup final has been the only crumb of comfort for Borussia Dortmund and manager Jurgen Klopp, who will be desperate to go out on a high. However, the Black and Yellows are likely to come up short against underrated Wolfsburg, who finished 23 points above them in the Bundesliga.

RECOMMENDATION: Wolfsburg

KEY STAT: Paris St-Germain have won their last 11 domestic matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Second division Auxerre have played their best football in the French Cup but will struggle to trouble champions Paris St-Germain in the final. Auxerre defeated just one top-flight team (Guingamp) on their way to the final and finished mid-table in the second tier, 26 points behind champions Troyes.

RECOMMENDATION: PSG to win 3-0

KEY STAT: Athletic Bilbao have won just one of their last 24 matches against Barcelona

EXPERT VERDICT: Athletic Bilbao have had a strong finish to the season – putting together a seven-match unbeaten run – but are likely to be outclassed by Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. Barca have the treble in their sights and will take confidence from their 5-2 victory away to Athletic in early February.

RECOMMENDATION: Barcelona to win 2-0

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in four of Napoli's last five matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Champions League qualification is up for grabs at the San Paolo but neither Napoli nor Lazio have been at their best of late. Only a win will suffice for Napoli, who will qualify at Lazio's expense on the head-to-head rule if they are victorious. That should ensure this is an open and entertaining affair.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

MLB Betting Cheat Sheet

What’s wrong with Strasburg?

Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals is 3-5 with a 6.50 ERA this season. He has turned in only one quality start (back on April 19) and has lasted more than 5.1 innings only twice. Strasburg will get another shot on Friday at the Cincinnati Reds. The over is 5-1 in Strasburg’s last six starts overall and 5-0 in his last five road starts.

Break up the Twins!

The Minnesota Twins are on an American League-best current winning streak of five games and have surged into a tie for first with the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central. Minnesota has scored 23 runs in its last four contests (3-1 O/U).

Juan gone

The Los Angeles Dodgers shipped veteran third baseman Juan Uribe to the Atlanta on Wednesday. Actually, with the Braves already in town for a three-game series, he was simply shipped across the infield to the other dugout. Uribe (.238, 1 HR, 6 RBI) went 0-for-3 in his debut on Wednesday. Fellow third baseman Chris Johnson was activated from the disabled list on Wednesday and some kind of platoon is expected.

Pitching Notes

Outside of maybe the Dodgers’ Zack Greinke, no National League pitcher has been as consistently dominant as Pittsburgh Pirates’ starter A.J. Burnett. The 38-year-old is 4-1 with a 1.37 ERA and has turned in eight consecutive quality starts. He will get the nod again on Thursday night at the San Diego Padres. The Pirates are 6-0 in their last six overall and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 road games.

Jeremy Guthrie of the Royals is coming off a miserable performance in which he gave up 11 runs on nine hits, three walks, and four homers in just one inning of a 14-1 loss at the New York Yankees on Monday. Guthrie, whose next start will come at the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon, has an 8.17 ERA on the road in 2015 (thanks mainly to the aforementioned outing). He is sporting a 9.78 ERA in day games.

Hitting Notes

Nobody is hotter at the moment than Texas Rangers’ first baseman Prince Fielder (.368, 10 HR, 38 RBI). He is on a six-game hitting streak with 15 hits, five home runs, and 15 RBIs in those five. Fielder has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games and in 24 of his last 26 outings. He is batting .396 in May with nine dingers and 28 RBIs. The Rangers have won seven of their last eight games.

The Milwaukee Brewers are the worst team in baseball with a winning percentage of .333 (16-32). They have lost five games in a row and have scored a total of 11 runs in those games. Three everyday players (Carlos Gomez, Aramis Ramirez, and Luis Sardinas) are hitting worse than .190 over the past seven days.

Totals Streak

Miami Marlins (25-21-2 O/U): The Marlins may go over the total more often than not, but the under has been dominant of late. It is 5-0 in Miami’s last five overall and 9-2 in the team’s last 11 games. The fish crossed the plate a total of five times in this week’s three-game sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates. They have scored more than two runs only once in their last five outings.

Weather Note

According to forecasts, wind will be blowing in from right field at 11 miles per hour in Arlington when the Texas Rangers host the Boston Red Sox Thursday.

Injury Notes

The Cincinnati Reds’ pitching staff is banged up, to the extent that manager Bryan Price has no idea who is going to take the mound on Sunday against Washington. Johnny Cueto (elbow) and Jason Marquis (unspecified) are both in the mix. Marquis’ ERA (6.46) more than doubles that of Cueto (3.03).

Toronto Blue Jays’ designated hitter Jose Bautista (.230, 7 HR, 30 RBI) is back after missing two games with a shoulder injury. The 34-year-old wasted no time producing, as he went 3-for-4 with three doubles and five RBIs in a 10-9 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

Game 7 - Lightning at Rangers

The Rangers are no strangers to a Game 7 in the playoffs, as New York looks to close out its second consecutive Eastern Conference title with a victory over Tampa Bay on Friday night. In this back-and-forth series, only once has a team won consecutive games as the Lightning grabbed Games 2 and 3 to take a 2-1 edge. The Rangers evened the series at 3-3 with a resounding 7-3 blowout at Tampa Bay in Game 6, the fourth ‘over’ in the last five contests.

New York heads into the decisive Game 7 as a -155 home favorite (Bet $155 to win $100) at Sportsbook.ag, while Tampa Bay is back in the road underdog role at +135. The Lightning has won in two of three tries at Madison Square Garden in this series, as the Rangers have been limited to just four goals in three home contests. The total remains steady at 5 heading into Game 7, with the ‘under’ going 2-1 at MSG.

The Rangers edged the Capitals, 2-1 in Game 7 of the conference semifinals, extending their winning streak to six games in the deciding contest of a playoff series since 2012. Each of the last three Game 7’s played by New York since the 2014 playoffs have all been decided by 2-1 counts.

Tampa Bay is making its second Game 7 appearance in this postseason, shutting out Detroit, 2-0 in the opening round at home. The Lightning took part in a pair of Game 7’s on the road in 2011, as both games were decided by 1-0 counts. Tampa Bay ousted Pittsburgh in the conference quarterfinals, but fell short of the Stanley Cup Final in a loss at Boston.

There have been 156 Game 7’s in the NHL Playoffs and the home squad owns a 97-59 (62.1%) record. In this season’s playoffs, the home team is 3-0 in Game 7’s, which is in stark contrast to the 1-6 mark put up by the home squads in 2014.

Recent Game 7 History

New York

2015 – Washington Capitals 1 at New York Rangers 2 (Conference Semifinals)
2014 – New York Rangers 2 at Pittsburgh Penguins 1 (Conference Semifinals)
2014 – Philadelphia Flyers 1 at New York Rangers 2 (Conference Quarterfinals)

Tampa Bay

2015 – Detroit Red Wings 0 at Tampa Bay Lightning 2 (Conference Quarterfinals)
2011 – Tampa Bay Lightning 0 at Boston Bruins 1 (Conference Finals)
2011 – Tampa Bay Lightning 1 at Pittsburgh Penguins 0 (Conference Quarterfinals)

NHL Game 7 Playoff History (2012-2014)

As mentioned above, road teams won 85 percent (6-1) of the Game 7’s in last year’s NHL Playoffs and that shouldn’t be surprising. In the previous three playoff campaigns, the road team has been competitive, going 10-6 in the previous 16 decisive battles. Five of the 16 went to an extra session but none of this year’s Game 7’s have seen overtime.

Game Of The Day: Lightning at Rangers

Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Rangers (-150, 5)

Series tied 3-3

The New York Rangers have fought off elimination four times in this season's playoffs and can secure a return trip to the Stanley Cup final when they host the visiting Tampa Bay Lighting on Friday night. The Rangers erupted for a postseason-high seven goals in Game 6 to bring the Eastern Conference final back to Madison Square Garden, where they are 7-0 all-time in Game 7 matchups.

"Every time we're in an elimination game, that's the way we play," said New York forward Derick Brassard, who scored a hat trick and amassed five points in Tuesday's 7-3 romp. "We're just going to go out there at home and try to play our best game." Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves in Game 6 and enters the winner-take-all matchup with a 15-3 in his last 18 elimination games. The Lightning blanked the Rangers 2-0 at Madison Square Garden in Game 5 but have allowed at least five goals in three of their last four contests. Tampa Bay forward Alex Killorn was unfazed by New York's perfect home mark in Game 7s, saying: "I guess that means they're due to lose one."

LINE HISTORY: The opening moneyline saw the Rangers at -144 but has been bet to -150. The opening total of 5 has yet to shift.

INJURY REPORT: Lightning - C Tyler Johnson (Prob-Flu), LW Ondrej Palat (Prob-Flu), Cedric Paquette (Ques-Arm) Rangers - LW Mats Zuccarello (Ques-Upper Body)

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING: Tampa Bay did manage to win Games 6 and 7 in its first-round matchup against Detroit, but they need to find a way to get the "Triplets" line of Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov going. Although Kucherov scored twice in Game 6 on a pair of assists by Johnson, the unit has produced six points in the last three contests after dominating the first half of the series by coming for eight goals and eight assists in the first three games. A flu bug that had been affecting the Lightning seems to have subsided, but they need a better outing from Ben Bishop, who allowed a goal on the first shot he faced in Game 6 and was eventually pulled after surrendering five goals for the third time in four starts.

ABOUT THE RANGERS: Brassard had scored just one goal in his previous eight games before notching his first career hat trick and becoming the third player in franchise history to collect five points in a playoff contest. Rick Nash, a 42-goal scorer during the regular season who drew a ton of criticism after tallying only twice in the first 15 games of the postseason, has come alive with three goals and four assists over the past three games. Still, the fortunes of the Presidents' Trophy winners will likely hinge on the performance of Lundqvist, who set the tempo in Game 6 with 15 first-period saves and has been victorious in his last six Game 7s while posting a .973 saves percentage and microscopic 0.81 goals-against average.

TRENDS:

*Lightning are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in New York.
*Rangers are 10-2 in their last 12 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game.
*Under is 11-4-1 in Lightning last 16 road games.
*Over is 12-3-3 in Rangers last 18 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game.

CONSENSUS: 68.8 percent are backing the Rangers with 56 percent on the over.

Mets undefeated when Harvey starts at Citi Field

It's Harvey Day Friday, which means that the New York Mets will be looking to extend their winning streak at home with Matt Harvey starts. The Mets are 4-0 this season when the right-hander takes the bump in Citi Field this season.

Harvey has posted a 2.33 ERA with a stellar 27/2 strikeout/walk ratio in 27 innings of work at home this season.

The Mets host division-rival Miami Marlins Friday.

Lackey has under bettors smiling

John Lackey has led the St. Louis Cardinals to six consecutive unders when he takes the mound to start. Lackey has only allowed 11 runs in those starts across 38 innings of work.

So far this season, Lackey has posted a 3.18 ERA while allowing a mere .291 on-base percentage.

St. Louis will host the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday.

Red Sox put OF Nava on DL

The Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Daniel Nava on the disabled list retroactive to Tuesday with a sprained left thumb.

The Red Sox's move on Thursday came a day after they acquired outfielder Carlos Peguero in a deal with the Texas Rangers.

The 32-year-old Nava is struggling at the plate this season. In 27 games, he has a .159 batting average with no home runs. According to reports, the thumb injury has bothered him for a while.

Before this season, Nava was a solid contributor. In four previous seasons with the Red Sox, Nava had a career .273 batting average with 23 home runs and 162 RBIs.

Two years ago, Nava played in 134 games and batted .303 with 12 homers and 66 RBIs.

Rangers ready for another Game 7

Not only have they been here before, the New York Rangers are downright perfect in hockey's greatest pressure situation.

Game 7 at Madison Square Garden is nothing new for the Rangers. They're 6-0 at home all-time in postseason series seventh games, including the Eastern Conference semifinals clincher to dismiss the Washington Capitals on May 13.

"It's Game 7. In this sport it doesn't get much better than this," said Rangers coach Alain Vigneault. "We're going to focus on the elements that we need to do on the ice to have a good game. We're going to narrow our players' focus to exactly that, that permits us to stay in the moment, go on the ice and execute."

Friday's Game 7 with the Tampa Bay Lightning is the seventh chance for goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to save a series for New York. He's 6-0 in this spot in his career, is now 15-3 in elimination games over the last four seasons and made 36 saves in Game 6 while Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop is trying to rebound from a 7-3 loss.

"In Game 7, you need different guys stepping up, and hopefully we'll have more than one," Vigneault said.

The Rangers' streak matches that of the Detroit Red Wings, who won six consecutive Game 7s between 1949 and 1964, and the Boston Bruins, who captured six straight between 1983 and 1994. The Rangers also have won seven all-time Game 7s on Madison Square Garden ice, a streak dating to 1992.

Derek Stepan said the Lightning are so resilient because their talent makes them difficult to match, especially their top six forwards.

"Their top six forwards are elite players. Their bottom six play a really hard game and they finish their checks," Stepan said. "Their group altogether plays a really strong game. We have to bring our best in order to win on Friday night."

Lundqvist steps up in elimination games

New York Rangers face another elimination game Tuesday night, but they are thankful they have Henrik Lundqvist between the pipes, who is 14-3 when the Rangers season is on the line.

Lundqvist also owns an impressive 1.39 goals-against average and a 9.56 save percentage in those games.

However, Lundqvist and the Rangers are just 5-3 in elimination games away from Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers are currently +118 underdogs for Game 6 in Tampa Bay. The Lightning are currently -130.

Top five teams in the National League

The Major League Baseball season is well underway, and the teams are starting to establish themselves as pretenders and contenders. It might be the end of May, but there is a certain sense of urgency for some of the clubs hovering around .500. Over the next two months, teams will start making or breaking their campaigns before the July 31 trade deadline.

In the National League, three teams are clearly the cream of the crop, while a handful of others are looming with talent. It is always fun to see which groups grow in strength as the temperature rises, while others slowly wilt under the beaming sun.

Without any more rambling, let’s take a look at the top five National League teams in inverse order:

5. Chicago Cubs

Although the New York Mets have a slightly better record, the Cubs have the appearance of a team that can really get on a roll. Behind the pitching of Jon Lester and Jason Hammel, and the power-hitting youngster in Kris Bryant, the ability is certainly there.

Chicago has been a sad franchise since the days of Dusty Baker, Sammy Sosa, Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. Suddenly, the Cubs are flush with promising players such as the aforementioned Bryant, Addison Russell, Javier Baez and others.

4. San Francisco Giants

At 28-20, the defending champions have the look of a team that would like to repeat. Under manager Bruce Bochy, the leadership and mindset will always be there to win consistently. After losing Michael Morse and Pablo Sandoval in the offseason, there was concern that the offense would be sub-par.

Instead, the lineup has produced 198 runs, good for the top half of the National League. Of course, the pitching is still rock solid led by a Tim Lineceum resurgence and the expected brilliance of Madison Bumgarner.

3. Washington Nationals

Without question, this is the most talented team in MLB. Washington has a ridiculously loaded rotation with Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Gio Gonzalez, Max Scherzer and Doug Fister. On top of that, the bullpen is locked down by Drew Storen and the lineup is loaded with Bryce Harper as the centerpiece.

If any team in baseball should win 100 games without breaking a sweat, it should be the Nationals. Still, Washington got off to a slow start and has the worst record of any NL division leader. Expect the Nationals to climb up the ranks in short order.

2. St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis continues to amaze everyone. The Cardinals lost Adam Wainwright for the year to a torn Achilles and haven’t skipped a beat, posting a Major League-best 30-16 record. St. Louis has been able to amass the best run differential in the league at +58, largely due to the shutdown pitching which has allowed only 140 runs.

So why aren’t the Cardinals at the top of this list? It’s about not only the present, but looking into the future. With the Dodgers only 1.5 games behind St. Louis, it is assumed the Cardinals will fall off a bit as the loss of Wainwright catches up.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

For years, Los Angeles used to be known as “Showtime” for the NBA’s Lakers. When the Dodgers take the field, especially on nights when Clayton Kershaw is pitching, it has the same vibe. The Dodgers, thanks to former ‘Showtime’ extraordinaire Magic Johnson, have built a team loaded with stars.

Behind Kershaw, Zach Greinke, Adrian Gonzalez, Yasiel Puig and others, the Dodgers exude championship quality. Leading the NL West by 1.5 games over the Giants, Los Angeles will be in a great battle throughout the summer.
