Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
Streaking: Max Scherzer, Washington Nationals (7-1, 1.78 ERA, $424)
It really didn’t seem like Scherzer could get even better after back-to-back Cy Young Awards the past two seasons, but that’s exactly what he has done so far in 2018.
Scherzer has been streaking all season and he’s been doing that with the strikeout. The veteran right-hander has 104 punch outs this season in just 65.2 innings pitched. His strikeouts per nine innings is a massive 14.3 and he is striking out just a tick over 40 percent of the batters he is facing. Oh, he also has a career low ERA and WHIP at this point.
It should be no surprise Scherzer and the Nationals are big -250 road favorites for tonight’s matchup against the Marlins with a total of 6.5.
Slumping: Mike Minor, Texas Rangers (3-3, 5.59 ERA, $13)
Minor was hoping to come to Texas and reignite his career, but the veteran lefty has had a rough go of things for the most part in 2018 and his last three starts have been particularly bad.

It really didn’t seem like Scherzer could get even better after back-to-back Cy Young Awards the past two seasons, but that’s exactly what he has done so far in 2018.
Scherzer has been streaking all season and he’s been doing that with the strikeout. The veteran right-hander has 104 punch outs this season in just 65.2 innings pitched. His strikeouts per nine innings is a massive 14.3 and he is striking out just a tick over 40 percent of the batters he is facing. Oh, he also has a career low ERA and WHIP at this point.
It should be no surprise Scherzer and the Nationals are big -250 road favorites for tonight’s matchup against the Marlins with a total of 6.5.
