YTD 1-0
Like Colorado State last night, here's another live dog that I feel stacks up nicely against the more nationally recognized and overvalued home favorite.
The secret should be out that Fresno State is a solid program that's not afraid to take on anyone anywhere. However, I still don't think the oddsmakers have properly adjusted the line to reflect this fact. This game is an excellent example.
Fresno State returns 17 starters (9 offense, 8 defense) from last year's team that went 9-5, with three of those losses at Tennessee, at Oklahoma and to UCLA in the Silicon Valley Bowl. This team is loaded especially at QB. Pinegar is a top rate passer who, like David Carr before him, will play in the NFL. Dwayne Wright is a load at running back and the offensive line is big and experienced.
On defense Fresno returns 8 starters from a team that yielded an average of 22 ppg last year. Further, Fresno's special teams are solid.
On the flipside, Washington returns 11 total starters from last year's team and has to replace their starting QB (Cody Pickett) with young Casey Paus and somehow try to also replace the loss of their stud wide receiver Reggie Williams. This is the second year for new Washington coach Keith Gilbertson and he's still buiding the program.
Fresno is battle tested and will not be intimidated in the slightest. They are the better team in this game and getting 4 points is a gift. Fresno should win this game outright. Take Fresno plus the points.
