I'm going to play big on Byrd vs Fres, probably for like 20 grand. I dont wanna do an offshore book for that kind of money so I'm gonna lay my action in Vegas. Could you let me know when you see a line out for Byrd vs Oquendo in any of the casinos? I just need to know what the line is and which casinos have it posted. It might be awhile before it comes out but if you could let me know I would greatly appreciate it. You can email me at ericalmly@hotmail.com or just post it here.

Thanx

Sure, no problem. By the way, what is the tentative date for Fres to get a butt wippin?

Incidentally, I make Byrd like a -300 chalk here. I saw Chris at the Mayorga mess, and he
always looks sharp and in good spirits. I just
don't see Oquendo being able to solve this guy.
I see a boring, go the distance UD for Chris. I
don't know what side you are looking at, but I
will let you know when I see a # posted.

A friend of mine was at the DK after party after the Mayorga fight and talked to Byrd. Byrd told my friend the fight is set for Sept. 20 tentatively of course.

Did they say WHERE it is expected to be held?
Sounds like an MGM or even a Cox Pavilion type
of fight. I usually go to the host venue to
check for numbers initially. Well, since this
thread is already started, lets break it down.
Opinions?

well,it`s hard to think anything but byrd.....

i`m a little puzzled....all i was hearing for awhile was oquuendo-ruiz....a natural.....the two top latino heavyweights maybe fighting in los angeles where they would ba a fantastic draw......apparently one doesn`t want any part of the other......does a little, insignificant piece of the title mean that much?...it doesn`t seem to be doing byrd`s career much good...everybody knows who the real champion is.....barring a freak occurrence,i agree with almly...byrd wins....and oquendo`s people have to figure this is a long shot...

i`ve seen more than a few of of oquendo`s fights on the tube, and i disagree a little with almly that he`s terrible...he`s become a better puncher in his last 10 or so bouts....

what puzzles me is his stamina.....the guy has like 4 or 5 late stoppages in his last 7 or 8 bouts....you`d think that would mean his stamina is good and he carries his power late into fights....

but,he looked to be folding before catching mo harris late in his last fight....and he totally ran out of gas against tua after looking like he was going to coast to an easy victory...

a little confusing...

i think he`s just dangerous enough to make ME leary about betting big, big, bucks on byrd....don`t get me wrong,if the odds are reasonable,i`ll take a look....

but, oquendo is just dangerous enough to scare me a little...and if they fight on the west coast,he will have home turf advantage.....

some particulars have to be settled before making a solid opinion...

The fight hasnt been formally announced yet but from what I hear its a done deal for sometime in September and I dont think that a destination has been chosen. I'm thinking the odds will be somewhere right around 3-1 also and I'm really hoping it's not much higher.

I'm sorry Spinch but I think Fres is fuking horrible. I've watched a few of his fights now and I dont see anything that impresses me. I'm not that big on Byrd either but in my opinion skill level wise these guys are just in two different classes. For me this is as sure as it gets. Yeah, I could be wrong but if neither of the Klits could knock Byrd out I can't see Fres being able to do so and I definitely cant see him beating Byrd on points.

Assuming this fight goes thru I'm like one of those guys on Butlers team last year, I'm getting my look, it's time to lock and load.

i`m curious to see what the odds are gonna look like.....

Unless information surfaces down the road, all
things being equal, and in light of what we are
already aware of, Chris Byrd is actualy worth
the premium cost here. However, sometimes betting very early to lock in a perceived "good"
price can be counter-productive. To me Oquendo-
Ruiz would be about as exciting as watching a
surgical procedure for hemmoroid removal(no
disrespect spinch). True, what does Chris REALLY
have to gain here. Stay busy; a payday; a tuneup? Boxing does indeed make strange bedfellows. Perhaps more will be revealed.

i agree franks...not necessarily a show-stopper........but then again,our last names aren`t rodriguez,gonzales or sanchez.....

byrd must be having managerial trouble or something....i know somebody must want a shot at that belt....as insignificant as it might be.....

the belt`s supposed to make you some momey....i think byrd must be starving....

Yea, I heard lately he is so poor he's been
eating like a BIRD! It's obvious I don't tell jokes for a living. But, I'm starting to believe the the hype about Chris being the guy
no one wants to fight. Lets hope for a fair price or a round prop we can hit.

methinks the oddsmaker over at oly saw this thread and adjusted his line on byrd/oquendo accordingly......-500 and change......

almly, those grapefruit sized coulumes are gonna come in handy now....laying 20 g`s to win 4 and change.....

you should make your bet,and the night of the fight, take 3 valium,a percocet and a darvocet....and when you wake up 3 days later,if you remember the bet at all, you`ll be in such a fog you won`t give a damn.....

Vegas lines and offshore lines are often different. Harris-Mbaye got as low as -180 for Harris at Vegas while it was -350 at pinnacle and -600 or -800 at Olympic. Just because Byrd is -525 at OLY doesn't mean he will be so at Vegas.

Yeah, I saw it a couple of days ago. Broke my heart. I looked around and it seems like Olympic is the only place that has it up. You dont really think that the line mgr there (Tony is the guy that does fights) actually read this sh!t do you? We're going to have to go underground or something. The thing thats cool about Olympic is that Tony said he'd let me bet 10 dimes or however much on pretty much any fight as long as I do it a few days in advance so he can play it off if he has to.

But yeah, that really discouraged me.

Well, 5-1 is pricey, but Byrd is the choice play
certaintly. Problem I see with lines here in
Sin City now is this. As I stated, the casinos have only been posting the "mega" affairs for
the most part. Also, if it isn't being held here, they feel they don't have the same vested
interest in a fight would that it were. Now what
they resorted to is monitoring the off-shores
and waiting for a market line to be established
and then they post a number. No risk, no balls.
I am not saying they ALWAYS do this, but it occurs more frequently than not. Point being, I
would expect to see Byrd lined similiarly as we
see in the off-shores as the line adjusts and seeks it own level. They are bean counters, not
bookmakers.
