A lot of his possessions were divided up back East after the fall of the "empire"

I'm sure he had some things stashed away but following the mistakes there wasn't significant retribution but he had to pay for others mistakes

Sorry to hear of this, my father and an uncle of mine once stayed in Miami on vacation many moons ago, and visited with him a bit at his home. My father said the obvious, he was a very sharp gent. Their generation has largely passed now, or hanging by a thread in old age.

It makes me sad, and reminds me of my father, and the many wiseguys I've known and met over the years, now gone. I miss hearing their nicknames, their colorful personalities in person or on the phones, their striking candor, Runyonesque wiseguy slang, and for many of them their OG style..they don't make 'em like that anymore.

In the fall of 1975, I used to fly to Vegas every Thursday and check out the football lines at the brand new Stardust Race & Sportsbook. I had lengthy conversations with "Lefty" on 4 or 5 occassions. His whole handicapping philosophy was about obtaining "inside" information. He upgraded my comped room several times. I also ran into Spilotro a couple of times, but didn't know his whole history until all the books were written. He stiffed a very respected BM I knew one time. Very scary!

I remember the time he fired the slot manager after 3 progressive slot machines got hit within one hour.
