Foxwoods has the better blackjack. Both places have the same rules but Foxwoods historically has better shoe penetration. Mohegan's casino is custom built dark and dull to make people lose whereas Foxwoods is brighter and actually gives you a chance.

Food I would rate both places about even - they all have anything you could be looking for really. Most food is naturally overpriced at both places. I would say Foxwoods probably has a better variety of low-roller choices though.

Neither place really has hookers. Even on the busiest of nights, your chances are incredibly doubtful for anything like that. Best bet is to go north 45 minutes to Providence - lots of options there.

or closer is Broad Street in New London, but the quality there is like East Fremont St.

Foxwoods has really ugly people there. Finding a poker table was easy though.

That's the "Casino of the Earth", where the Wolf Den is. They built a newer section that includes the Arena and the Hotel and on that end is the "Casino of the Sky". It's the exact opposite in terms of lighting.

Nonetheless, my preference is Foxwoods. I give a slight edge to the Sun when it comes to the Racebook.

If I'm staying overnight at Foxwoods, it's usually because I'm with a so-called high-roller who gets a suite comped once a month.

i will have to check it out, heading to foxwoods over columbus day weekend ( fri,sat night) maybe i will start at mohegan early friday

How much do you have to bet to get a comped suite? I play about once a week. Probably play $40 average per hand at BlackJack. the give me the casino rate but its still $200 for a regular room.

How much more are you betting? Do they comp you or do you use points?

Thanks.

First of all, I'm not the high-roller. I wrote that I'm sometimes with a high-roller. They would play blackjack and bet a minimum of $100 a hand, but typically play $300 to $1000 a hand and sometimes play 2 or 3 spots on the table. I'm not sure if the suite comes off their points or not. My guess is that it doesn't. They have a host that they have to see upon checking in to get their suite, etc. I wasn't there, but one time all the suite's were booked and all they had was the Presidential Suite that included a grand piano, etc.

They use to be much more generous about 6 or 8 years ago doling out comp points and it wasn't tremendously difficult racking up enough points to get a room. At that time, rooms were in the neighborhood of $145/night. Nowadays, points accumulate at a much slower rate and it sounds like room rates have gone up as well.

I am going to Foxwoods after work on Friday. I'll stay over because I'll drink some beer.

Mohegan Sun sounds like its worth a try but is ridiculous to charge over $500 for a hotel room. Not a good way to get my money over there.

Here's my take on CT casinos, as a resident of that state, for some reason that I can't even justify to myself, but that's a subject for another thread.

There are two casinos in CT, they are 10 miles apart. Both are big ... as in comparable to places like MGM or Mirage, Foxwoods even has it's own zipcode.

Neither offers anything that can't be found in Vegas, and both lack a sportsbook and 24 hour booze. It's not a destination type place where you'd spend a week. Both are basically marketed to residents of NYC and Boston, and anybody inbetween.
