looking to move back to fl this august and was looking at the fort lauderdale area and noticed hollywood is half the price as fort lauderdale as far as renting goes..is there really that much of a drop off between the two...would appreciate if anyone familiar with the area could help me out

Anyway, If you asked this Same Question 10 years ago. I would have said Go to Ft. Lauderdale.
But over the years, and mainly the past 3 or 4 years. They have Built up Hollywood Fl.
As long as you On or Very Near to the Beach.
So if you are Looking for a Condo in Hollywood, They have some Great Deals going on.
I'm going down next month to see if I can pick up another place.

I live in Hollywood and it is very nice. Depends upon what you are looking for. Where I live it is suburbia. There are very nice areas in Fort Lauderdale (Las Olas) but it all matters your preference. I don't go to the Hard Rock (I don't trust Indian gaming).

Live right outside both in a small town, 2 minutes from Hollywood and about 10 minutes down the Turnpike from Ft Lauderdale...while Hollywood may be up and coming, depending on how much you can afford, you should probably think about finding a place in the middle. The nice areas of both Laudi and Hollywood are very nice and safe, with lots to do at night (Ft. Lauderdale has the edge during the day)...that said, if you are looking at 600-700 a month in rent, you don't want to be in either, as that will get you in parts of town that aren't that safe...PM me if you want an honest opinion, best of luck wherever you end up moving to, let me know and I'll buy you a drink when you get down here!
I live in Ft. Laud and my girlfriend lives in Hollywood. She lives by Hollywood circle (lots of restaurants, nice walking areas, etc....) I live on Las Olas (same deal, but a little nicer and closer to the beach). I also live w/in a 5 min walking distance to Riverfront (bunch of bars, couple clubs, etc..). Overall, I think the area of Ft. Laud is nicer and the beach is better. Hope that helps.
I live in Plantation, FL during the Summers which is very close to Ft Lauderdale. I find Hollywood in general more run down and slummy than Ft Lauderdale. Personally I would move north closer to West Palm beach.
The rich folks are moving north because the Spaniards are also moving north of Miami and starting to invade a lot in the Ft Lauderdale area.
