To all the posters who seem terrified of an Obama presidentsey or liberal fascism in general.I ask you to go back in time to 2001 shortly after 9/11,the Republicans controlled the house,the senate, congress the white house and had a majority of the governships in the country.They had the country eating out of their palms,and what did they get done? Did they over turn Roe v. Wade, did they change our archaic tax system? Did they push through any "hot button" Republican issues? Other than the Iraq war what did they get done? Besides pretty much bankrupting our country with this war. For a normal "Joe or Jill sixpack" how much has your life changed?

My point being if they (the right) could'nt drastically change our way of life (as the irrational left said they would) what makes you think a bunch of liberals can?

Life long conservative here and the following are my thoughts:

You are right when you say Bush didnt accomplish much. He has been a horrible President. He has gone against true conservative ideals and he missed big time on Iraq. That is all true.

The problem with Obama is that he will have a Democratic Congress that can easily push thru legislation that can drastically change this country. He will push it to the left - as far left as he can. And, he will have a lot of help. Also, at least initially, the American public will be behind him since we will be in a world of hurt financially in a few short months. We will believe his speeches and hope he can lead us out of this mess. But, there is no way that socialism will work. It just wont. It hasnt worked at any time and in any place in history.


ear is that, when he and the liberals in Congress are done, we will have an America that I do not recognize. An America that resembles socialist Europe. I do not want that.

I know Bush fucked up. But, to be punished with Obama is pouring salt in the wound.

Well put my friend..........I still think the odds of this country being changed drastically are slim.Socialism is being practiced right now by a Republican lead white house ( Stimulous checks,wall street bail out). I think Obama will have a lot to prove so he may try harder, I dont believe he is as much an idealist ,like Hillary. If this country was a bussiness Clinton ran it pretty well as compared to the Bush admn. who ran (run) it like a crack head with a stolen credit card. I will put my ideology aside for a while and give Obama a chance.

Completly different situation. In 2001, the senate started a 50-50 tie, and then Jeffords jumped to the left and gave the dems a majority. The GOP won back the senate in 2003, but from then to 2007 only had a small majority, with them having a seat count in the low 50's. The democrats were able to throw up many road blocks and peel off a few GOP votes.

We're looking at the possiblity of the democrats having a filibuster proof majority in the senate. They'll be able to do what ever they want.

Republicans can look in the mirror collectively for the culprits who put they're party in jeopardy,they have governed horrible as of late (at the federal level, Republicanism is still practiced very well in alot of places at the state level).This could be the catlyst they need to rebuild.

Remember the last few times the democrats had congress and the White House? We had the Misery index under Carter, and people were so upset with Clinton they voted the GOP into a majority in both houses for the first time since 1954. History tends to repeat itself.

I am not lookin to get bailed out by either party...........Dem or Repub running things, I will still have to go to work, still raise my kids. I am an Independant and do not endorse either party............absolutley will not vote Repub, as I think they have 8yrs and look at our country!:WTF:
