I’m down to my local and can’t pay him. First, I like to state that I have EVERY intention of paying but need some time. Second, I realize that I’m a complete idiot for playing above my means. I’m looking for advice from books on how they’d like me to handle the situation and how they would handle this. This isn’t a joke. I screwed up. I look at it as follows: I can chase, I can run, I can call him and ask for some time. Thanks.

Tell the truth and arrange a way to pay weekly, no matter how small the payment. Bookmakers are so used to deadbeats lying down, that it might even be a pleasure for the guy to hear.

That being said - PAY YOUR DEBT. Don't forget that the extra money in your wallet after payday is not all yours. If the guy cuts you slack, which he is sure to do, don't get complacent and stop paying.

I do not know your specific situation, but know that a lot of guys pay commission on your action - if you are calling offshore then that is definitely the case. In other words, they owe a percentage of what you lost to another party.

Good luck and be smart.

Dude,
Intentions are not enough, PAY YOUR DEBT. Just be smart and don't play more until you are done paying. Then if you want to bet more, just stick to your budget.
Just tell your guy that you will pay some of it each week, two weeks, once a month or something.
Personal experince, been there done that.
I you pay, it's cool, i'm sure your bookie will let you keep playing after that.
Good luck

I think everyone at one time or another got into some trouble like this...... about 15 years ago when i was 17.... i got into some shit and just told him flat out i over did it..... we came to an arrangement and i paid 10 dimes off in no time.... actually it took some time... i paid bout a nickel every 2 to 3 weeks, but i did it.
Damn it was pretty crazy up to that point, young and dumb.... only if the raiders game went under i would have hit the 4 teamer for a dime and every thing would have been fine..... but the week before that, i hit 5 dimes on the raiders, 5 dimes on the over and a two teamer for 2 dimes to get out..... now that i think about it, it was just a matter of time......
but now we have these off shore books we can play with.... you send them the cash first.... you cant get into any shit now..... its alot safer... play with sports books....
gl buddy..... dont let it get you down....you'll be fine.....

Set up a specific payment plan.So much a week.Make it an amount that is realistic. Then stick to it and meet youtr guy every week.If you do that,I don't think there will be a problem.Do not duck him or start missing payments. There is nothing more infuriating than that.

Guys - thanks for the advice. After contemplating an extended vacation to a South American country to visit some friends, I went on the offensive and made the call. Obviously, he didn’t like the news but we’ve arranged for a manageable payment plan that I can handle and will be out of the hole in a little while. Once I’m even, I think I’ll go directly to an off shore and deposit $ so I can’t lose more than I can pay. Unfortunately, I’ll be sitting out Bowl Season.

Are you an agent? Have you ever had these people call you whining about give me an extension?? Does not seem so.... No attacks on the agent should be available here, he made a mistake by giving this guy some credit, but this guy should pay, not play..... find the money and pay the man, he has people to feed too... /infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Most local Bookies are bottom feeders. The reason they gave this guy credit is that they know that the guy wont win and take advantage of him.

I tell you to just go to the bookies house kick in the door take his big screen woop him good and then sleep with his wife. Then take all collected put it in his car take it home as well. When he calls tell him to make bets and then he can pay you of his misfortune. Go to vegas to bet or get an account offshore. Sorry Locals but you guys Know im correct.

We must give this guy props. Why? He admitted his actions were wrong, and then decided not to avoid them and took responsibility. And, he called the book on his own,
without ignoring dozens of calls which others do.
Now i'm supposing he is putting off unnecessary expenditures until he pays off. For me, this is not the usual course of action taken by guys who bet too much and cannot pay.
Personally i have had deadbeats costing me over 150,000
that i had to turn in to the office, as i was an agent.
If they were like this guy, i'd have been happy as a pig in shit.
