American military forces in the Middle East since October 2001 have killed Muslims at a rate of upwards 100x the number of Americans killed on 9/11 by the collection of Saudi terrorists. Ruefully enough, I am pretty surenot one of those killings by U.S. military has taken place within the borders of Saudi Arabia

Precisely.

If we'd actually learn the truths of our country's multiple engagements within the Middle East, all the way back to The Shah of Iran (and even, some would say, prior to that) if we actually as a people educated ourselves on what has been done by our own government and why these people are so thoroughly pissed off...

theres a tiny little sliver of hope that further destruction could be avoided.

Probably not, like the Sunni-Shia Conflict too much blood has been shed for further bloodshed to be avoided but sincerely..

..were a group of Americans to come together and declare to The Muslim World that they understood, that they had discovered information concealed from them by the U.S. Government information that made them able to understand and that they wished to voluntarily surrender those responsible for Trial before The World Court on War Crimes as just a first step towards Peace

If we could just ask Forgiveness for what they did, take a shot at making those that want to kill us understand that it was not us, the people of America, but rather Government....that was responsible, maybe they would understand.

At the least one could reasonably expect the fire within them to murder people who had nothing to do with what was done to them might be diminished.
